yes that is true they are currently in command of ISAF that does not make it theirs its a NATO op, 37 other nations are and have been involved in Afghanistan with ISAF since 2001 and have done their part to help fight off the Taliban and train the afghan national security forces by claiming that the US is solely responsible for the ANA like the comment i replied to did is discrediting to everybody elses work.

Exactly. The Taliban was trained and equipped mostly by the Pakistan Inter-Service Intelligence agency. The idea was that Pakistan could have the Taliban as allies and harassment troops in case they went to war with India.

Of course, this backfired epically and the Taliban is now a huge threat to Pakistan's stability

@101andrewj Actually the taliban INVADED Afghanistan from PAKISTAN. The taliban are primarily Pakistani. They were created by the Pakistani ISI (the Pakistani equivalent of the CIA) in the 1990s IN Pakistan. Pakistan did this because they wanted to expand their "area of influence". So it wasn't a civil war. The taliban are foreign invaders and occupiers and Afghans hate them. But you're right about us not training the taliban. That's a popular misconception and totally false.

No more ASSghanis will come to Pakistan to use it as a location for crime and no foreign agents can hide in mountain sanctuary in border regions. At least Obama has included Pakistan in all decisions on drone attacks on Taleban cirminals from Afghanistan and foreign fighters. In Pakistan, we want all of them out!

The Taleban supporters are a handful of tribal Pashtuns in Pakistan's tribal belt- they have historic links with the Pashtun in Southern Afghanistan- otherwise the Taleban have no support in Pakistan becoz their message and way of life is anathema to more liberal minded Pakistanis. The Pak army has largely defeated the Taleban who are on the run in Pakistan- all they can do is bomb innocent civilians out of desperation but that's it. The real problem is Afghanistan and sealing it.

Despite all the incentives to go back to Assghanistan, most don't go- what is needed is to build a big wall around Afghanistan and keep all the terrorism and Taleban contained in Assghanistan. This would be cheaper than trying to build a dump of a country like Afghanistan which never was much in the first place. It's always been a dump.

If these guys train with either the US, UK, Canada, or Dutch forces(sorry if i left out any country) they will become an amazing fighting force, one which will be capable of destroying any threat, and its nice to see them getting tanks, and heavy weapons, they will need them once Canada and the UK leave, then only the US will remain for about 2-3 years(correct me if im wrong) to contiue training them, but best of luck to these men, and good hunting!(hope to help them out in a year or so!!! :)]
