I like this alot, I just dont think the plane hitting the trade center shouldve been in here. The title being right where it belongs...well, the plane just doesnt belong in a building. BUT, not that big of a deal. Sweet job.
As a combat Vet and a Die hard NIN fan, I respect deeply what Reznor is trying to convey. Only problem is, they WILL KILL any non Extremists when given the oppertunity...we really don't have a choice in the matter. I do not agree with how everything went down. I know for a fact because of what I did and my position in the Marines, we were lied to. About ALOT. But, this does not change the present threat we ALL must face at some point, or they WILL be at your door, trust me on that my friends.
@tetsusaigaiy After going through psychosis, I think that most people would be afraid to see. I just hope that what I saw wasn't so much to take away from the rest of my life
Ah, but my interpretation of 'seeing through the cracks of reality' isn't that of loosing touch with reality, but rather viewing reality in a state of clairvoyance.
I cant imagine how horrible a state of psychosis must have been, but it's not the same as clairvoyance for in that state, one would still be holding a certain 'reality' or rather 'surreality' as a the true reality, where as clairvoyance would be a state of where one is aware that reality itself is indefinate in nature...
The "dream" is your perception of past and future.people spend all their time thinking "whats gonna happen" or "what just happened" It's an illusion. All we have is this moment right NOW!!! wake up and live in this moment. We all put ourselves through the pain we experience by thinking it's real!!!
This song just made me cry so hard. Life seems.... it seems so hard sometimes. I can't express enough how much it helps to have something like this. Something to just release all of your emotions with.
I think having the MILITARY interference in this vid gives a person more of a sense of who is REALLY in control. Artistically I find this vid fantastically silver screen -ish,..are they using 25mm?
we as humans have no right to create life look at what we do to everything else nothing has a chance what will the life we create do to us a monster creating another
This song explains the last three or four years of human existance perfectly. War, Famine, Distaster, Destruction. Our inappropriate actions towards these events, and the outcome of those choices. If I had to pick a song for the last few years to discribe the world in it's current state of affairs, this would be it.

This music video reminds me of the one for Are We Here by Orbital(It's on Youtube) not in a good way though i.e. this isn't a techno song. Why do people think putting slow music over the planes crashing into the towers is a good idea? My teacher made a video with footage from 9/11 with Enya's "Only Time" on it. Trying to give emotion to something I should no emotional attachment to. They call that propaganda. That voice over is ****ing annoying too.
No I don't think Trent's voice is annoying I was talking about the voiceover the fucktard that made this video added. Vendetta if I attempted to make a video and it turned out like this I would slit my wrists.
"I'm pretty sure that military footage is from the perspective of an AH-64D Apache Helicopter, and is from the First Gulf War. It really looks like the "Highway of Death" which happened in late Feb. of 91'. Nothing of the 1400 some odd Iraqi military vehicles on the highway that night lived." That is not a voice over, that is the actual audio from the radio chatter. Perhaps you should go slit your wrists despite making a video. Your name describes your demeanor all too well.
dude this is an awesome music video is this what you do for a living or what If it isn't you should really do this as a living making video's for bands this video is the shit dude NICE WORK DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You mean the people that believe 9/11 was really caused by people in the middle East? Yeah, to those that are blind to what happened, it might offend them.
Best "made at home video" that I have seen so far for a song with no official video....... I like this version, but probably prefer the version on the album. I don't know I guess it really depends on my mood at the time, but both versions are excellent and I also love the live version on the "With teeth Tour" as well.
The version on with teeth is absolutly amazing.. with the images on the background and stuff..
For some reason, I've always loved this version alot. The other one is amazing too. But this one is simpler and I feel very "funny" when I'm listening to it..
Randomness? Maybe you didn't understand it, I guess, because there's nothing random about it. Or were you joking? I do agree tho that this version is better - more haunting.
Mankind doesn't hate itself it's just the animal inside us and people like you fucking need to wake up. I've lost more family members due to mankind than you will ever have!!! And I'm not forgetting them but it happens you just got to move on. And the song fits the perfect time to remember those who has past on.
trent said to steal his music... now that he has come out with ghosts directly instead of through an over-charging label, i'd say it is a good idea to buy it because it will actually support the artist, but there is even an *official* (read - trent approved) torrent of ghosts I on thepiratebay torrent website
He said for a select group to steal it because they, personally were getting ripped off, and you know he wasnt being 100% serious when he said it. Here in the U.S. where prices are normal you should contribute to the artist and pay 15 bucks. The area Trent told to steal were outrageous like 25 or 30 dollars.
wow. I don't think a video has ever made me cry before. The night helicopter run scene was perfectly executed and it made me realize how terrible we are.
we gotta take blame as one society for all the bad shit that happens before anything gets fixed. if we just keep playing the blame game none of our problems will be solved. we ARE terrible for letting this shit happen in our world.
I'm pretty sure that military footage is from the perspective of an AH-64D Apache Helicopter, and is from the First Gulf War. It really looks like the "Highway of Death" which happened in late Feb. of 91'. Nothing of the 1400 some odd Iraqi military vehicles on the highway that night lived.
I love this song, especially lyrics. Basically, it's saying, can you prove that we exist. To me anyway. I'm a bit gutted that it wasn't played when I saw him in birmingham in august. :-(
It has alot more connected. At the begining with the "Animal in it's cage" he's criticizing how, because of religion and society we delay our human nature. "Are you sure what side of the glass you're on?" Are you controlling your emotions and desires because you want to, or just because it's what you've been told to believe, that if you don't, you'll be punished for all eternity in the flames of hell. Basically we're not free, but if not just a product of society. Not to mention the other verses
This Is A Seconded Version of The NIN "Right Where It belongs" It is Just Not On Any Of There CDs It's A Bonus Song Although I Love This One Alot More That The Original.. This Is A Good movie For The Song To
We live each day happy in our own existence but are we really happy and content? We walk around like puppets, losing our free will and being victims of society.
"see the animal in his cage that you built...are you sure what side you're on?"
This refers to the human animal. We place other species on display but in reality, aren't we the ones on display? War. Greed. Inhumanity. Are we the 'beasts' and are we too scared to look at ourselves thoroughly and without bias?
considering this was written for with_teeth which was pretty much trent's album of venting about being a past alcoholic, i think this song has to do with letting other things take over so much that you get to a point that you realize your whole life has been a dream and that what you used to consider living (ie:the rock star life) was fake, unreal and not really living... at least that's what i hear in the concept of the album...
Yeah, it was a judgment call with the sounds. I made it both ways and decide I liked it best with them in. I can see why some people would like the song in it's pure form. Thanks for the comment.
best version of the song! But who is the ANIMAL???? What is this Cage built out of??? Does he get food and water every day???? what type of animal is it??? A lion or maby an armadillyo
The cage is the reality that we see. We feel we cant fly like superman, because our mind tells us we cant. that is the cage he is talking about. Our soul or spirit is the only thing that is real. Reality is only what our eys see and how we interpret it with our minds.
Interesting interpretation. My thought is that the song is more about government control and how what we perceive to be real is just a joke. We aren't really free at all. We're being lied to, and coerced into a police state one day at a time.
Wow I see exactly what you mean. and I believe this video reflects that. I was studying theoretical physics when I first heard the song. I guess that is why I was leaning in the direction of reality and ones interpretation of reality. Very good post.
my interperation is basically the most simple, the idea that your whole life is a giant dream, everything is made for you, everything revolves around you, everything is your own creation. Kinda like the matrix, living in an imaginary world.
Wow, Vaporlock.... Coming from a HUGE Nine Inch Nails fan, that was superb. The imagery fit the song perfectly. That CG robot near the end was amazingly convincing. Scary.
3rd time to watch this, bang up job, It represents how we are programed(like robots) to prey on the weaker people and animals. The circle of life. + the added bonus of "Is that robot at the end of the video real or a human in the costume?" Not to mention The song itself is about, what I believe, quantum physics and how our reality is seen only by the observer. What is real and what is a dream, and if we have the power to ultimately control that dream to any outcome we choose.
WOW! I've watched this probably 20 times now & it's still powerful. The message is very clear about where humanities technology is being misused for destruction. Love how the discovery channel clips are juxtaposed with each other so such a powerful & disturbing message.
Thanks... :) Every once in a while I get a comment saying WTF do robots have to do with anything. You summed up my own feelings nicely. I would add the question of, "what does it mean to be a HUMAN?"
This video bugs me out, but I love it. Good job!

"And if you look at your reflection,
Is that all you want to be?"
This line is kind of over shadowed by the rest of the lyrics, it's a very important line in the song.
It seems that he's talking about reach enlightenment- something more than the humans we see in the mirror.
If we could see through the cracks of reality, would we be afraid to see?
I think not...

I love this song, especially lyrics. Basically, it's saying, can you prove that we exist. To me anyway. I'm a bit gutted that it wasn't played when I saw him in birmingham in august. :-(
fizzlesizzle 4 years ago
It has alot more connected. At the begining with the "Animal in it's cage" he's criticizing how, because of religion and society we delay our human nature. "Are you sure what side of the glass you're on?" Are you controlling your emotions and desires because you want to, or just because it's what you've been told to believe, that if you don't, you'll be punished for all eternity in the flames of hell. Basically we're not free, but if not just a product of society. Not to mention the other verses

Love the video. Nice choice of clips. Especially like the robots. Gunfire could be lower in the mix. Apart from that. Very nice!

I hope they make a v.2 similar like this for Zero Sum
arfuswrinkledinks 4 years ago
I think they'll do something with that one. Probably won't have the same melodicity as RWIB but should be equal in greatness.

it would be great

I love how this version sounds so personal, like it he really wanted to sound like he's in your room playing it, minus the gun sounds

Hey, great video! Mind me asking where you got this version of the song?

We live each day happy in our own existence but are we really happy and content? We walk around like puppets, losing our free will and being victims of society.
"see the animal in his cage that you built...are you sure what side you're on?"
This refers to the human animal. We place other species on display but in reality, aren't we the ones on display? War. Greed. Inhumanity. Are we the 'beasts' and are we too scared to look at ourselves thoroughly and without bias?

DUDE. It is just me, or are those robot things EXTREMELY freaky??

considering this was written for with_teeth which was pretty much trent's album of venting about being a past alcoholic, i think this song has to do with letting other things take over so much that you get to a point that you realize your whole life has been a dream and that what you used to consider living (ie:the rock star life) was fake, unreal and not really living... at least that's what i hear in the concept of the album...

I saw the ones with the robot turning the bolts on the discovery channel the other day.

The military sounds were a bit overused, but otherwise, the video to go with the song makes it even more emotional.
Mr. Reznor would be proud.
InnocentzRaptor 4 years ago
Yeah, it was a judgment call with the sounds. I made it both ways and decide I liked it best with them in. I can see why some people would like the song in it's pure form. Thanks for the comment.
vaporlock 4 years ago
I don't know. I think you should have made them a little less loud.

i love this vid like no other... great!!!!!!! What version of the song is this?
Ganon053 4 years ago
best version of the song! But who is the ANIMAL???? What is this Cage built out of??? Does he get food and water every day???? what type of animal is it??? A lion or maby an armadillyo
NUKEM16 4 years ago
The cage is the reality that we see. We feel we cant fly like superman, because our mind tells us we cant. that is the cage he is talking about. Our soul or spirit is the only thing that is real. Reality is only what our eys see and how we interpret it with our minds.
chadgra 4 years ago
Interesting interpretation. My thought is that the song is more about government control and how what we perceive to be real is just a joke. We aren't really free at all. We're being lied to, and coerced into a police state one day at a time.
lyzantheris 4 years ago
Wow I see exactly what you mean. and I believe this video reflects that. I was studying theoretical physics when I first heard the song. I guess that is why I was leaning in the direction of reality and ones interpretation of reality. Very good post.
chadgra 4 years ago
Thanks I appreciate that :)
lyzantheris 4 years ago
my interperation is basically the most simple, the idea that your whole life is a giant dream, everything is made for you, everything revolves around you, everything is your own creation. Kinda like the matrix, living in an imaginary world.

sensational vid.
does the song justice.

Curious. Why didn't you use the album release version of the song?

I actually did at first, but for some reason I preferred the slower version. I like both though.

What is real and what is a dream, and if we have the power to ultimately control that dream to any outcome we choose.
chadgra 4 years ago
kick ass dude. how did you make it look so awesome and perfect?

WOW! I've watched this probably 20 times now & it's still powerful. The message is very clear about where humanities technology is being misused for destruction. Love how the discovery channel clips are juxtaposed with each other so such a powerful & disturbing message.
TheMandoor 4 years ago
Thanks... :) Every once in a while I get a comment saying WTF do robots have to do with anything. You summed up my own feelings nicely. I would add the question of, "what does it mean to be a HUMAN?"
