Surratt began a speaking tour where he openly named Confederate Treasury Sec. Judah Benjamin as the funding source. Benjamin was a Rothschild agent also.

@WillSee11 i have read up on several theories on this whole subject some say Secretary of War Stanton was a Rothschild agent which means he could have aided Booth in his escape by either supplying the password so Booth could pass Or a 2nd theory i have read about was there was one unguarded bridge that Booth could have used to escape.
When Booths diary was found it is rumored Stanton had several pages removed because it was given to him when discovered

@GREGLOVESJENNA Yes, Stanton has always been suspicious for a number of reasons, but the theory that "Unsolved Mysteries" presents here is based on F.L. Bates book, which claims Booth escaped to reveal that it was VP Andrew Johnson who gave Booth the "T.B. Road" password to get across the Anacostia Bridge. Booth's calling card was found in Johnson's mailbox the very day of the assassination. Mary Lincoln believed Johnson "had some hand in all of this". She hated him, as did Stanton.

@GREGLOVESJENNA The Booth diary, (or journal) was missing 18 pages, and Col. Laff Baker (father of the Secret Service) had seen it, and embarrassed Stanton by revealing that it existed. It is very possible that Booth's connections to Vice President Andrew Johnson and others would have provided proof that others inside the government were also involved in the plot. But Stanton and Johnson fought when Stanton refused to leave his post, and barricaded himself in his office. Stanton knew the truth.

@GREGLOVESJENNA Not that I want to clear Stanton of all suspicion, but it is likely that he knew Johnson was involved in the plot, but decided to keep it secret, lest the last four bloody years of war would erupt again over the murderous treason in Washington. Stanton wanted the Union to heal and continue. That is why he kept the diary hidden, then fought with Johnson during his impeachment hearings, waiting for Grant to take office. Something weird; When the historian refers to David Harolds sworn statement refering to Booth 10 times, this episode of U.M refers to Booth's name exactly 10 times as the historian says Booth.
