the black gun is knives, remember he shot knives. ran and took his gun as well. and later he came back to july to try and kill knives with both of them. Knives shot his left arm which had the black gun in it.

The black gun was Knives's, when Vash first shot Knives because he destroyed a city, he ran off and grabed Knives's gun too.

@Liar805 Vash never uses the Black gun, instead Knives acquires both guns when he takes the white one from Vash in the last episode, he turns both arms into the angel arms and attempts to obliterate Vash, But you know, Wolfwoods gun was within reach so, goodbye Knives.
