  • Very grateful to this song, the gateway that led to the brilliance that is radiohead.

Accessible song with a with a quirky edge and a interesting video had me off exploring more....

  • Geniously videoclip

  • I can not sleep because I listen to this song over and over again. I think I am addicted!

  • I love this video and specially the social and political theme! It's really mind blowing!

  • this was the first 'feelgoody' radiohead song since ok computer, i think.

i love the feel from 1.30.

also it never fails to amaze me how they use these weird time signatures so flawlessly.

  • @gorgolyt this is far from 'feelgoody' lol this is another brilliant yet dark song from the sinical mind of thom yorke. a great fucking tune though

  • @gorgolyt Don't know if this is important...for you...but I don't think it's feelgoody, this is like something that puts you in a trance, it's neither light nor heavy, it's a strange chaos inducing beat. (I love it, obviously)

Whereas OK could be qualified as "space-rock" lol..look at me trying to describe Radiohead...OK's more like headbangin, fun tunes...

  • Have you ever had a feeling that your live should have a soundtrack? Such like this? I know I have!

  • absolutely cleansing and refreshing.

  • A Masterpiece

  • a bit country-ey which is a problem for me ! well the 5/8 pays for it ! super awesome song anyway.

  • tom looks so cute but creepy at the same time in this video xP <3

awesome song.awesome album.awesome band. what else can i say? 8U

  • 8U << is this supposed to be homer simpson face?

    just curious.

  • lol xDDD

nice interpretation but is just a face with an open mouth xdd

  • i mean this song and video are open to interpretations and ive seen some crazy interpretations about it having political meanings and references to the world war??? Mm everyone is entitlted to their opinion but i just think hes talking about what goes on in someone's mind when they are sleep deprived... and i dont think anyone whos posted these comments really know what insomnia does to you.

  • i LOVE this song!.....well actually i love all their songs, but this one is especially good :P hail to the thief is probably my favourite album...

  • me parece que no lo habia visto y me gusto!

  • I see a different interpretation, though very close to Griffith. imagine to fast forward a video taken on a street in a city. You watch how the old ways (represented by the old buildings) crumble and a new order is built from/upon them (new buildings at the end). And though the world changes, the people don't. They behave the same way as before. And the rose. Maybe we just miss the beauty in life, what is always before us, but we simply don't (know where to) look for it.

  • you said that griffin was taking it too literal with his interpretation. you said that most people with functioning senses would notice houses falling next to them. that would be taking it too literally.

i kinda agree with griffins interpretation because in the video, all the people there are business type people talking in their cell phones and holding suitcases rushing about and what not. and when buildings fall next to them, they dont notice.

  • Saying that most people with functioning senses would notice a house falling down next to them isn't an interpretation of the video. Griffin said they're so busy they don't notice buildings falling down; my retort was highlighting that what they were saying was essentially a desciption of the video and what is seen. That isn't necessarily the "meaning" behind the video, if there is one at all. I agree people tend to be stuck in their own world, but events of that magnitude don't go unnoticed.

  • what i meant was that you took griffin's interpretation too literal when you said that people would notice something as big as a building falling down. thats just the point. metaphors tend to be exagerations in order to get the point across. its like saying im so hungry i could eat a horse or he's boring me to death.

  • this video is about how people are like so focused on thier routine they dont notice like houses falling down

  • I'm pretty certain most people with functioning senses would notice a house falling down next to them. Your interpretation is probably a bit too literal.

  • rofl i know that was stupid of me wat do u think it means?

  • It can mean whatever you want. It means nothing to me. The creator maybe had some theme in mind when he created it. It's lost on me whatever it is.

  • maybe youre the one taking it too literally

  • Do explain what that's supposed to mean. I've stated it means nothing to me. I'm interested to know how a non-existent interpretation can be too literal.

  • and the rose could symbolize the saying, "stop and smell the roses".

  • "understand" the song?

pssht. fuck that. go read barthes.

  • cool

  • One of my favorite songs on Hail to the Thief...

  • We don't want the loonies taking over.

    Over my dead body.

  • Yorke has said that he treats his voice like an instrument... meaning he tries to blend it in with the other instrumentation of the band, rather than making it more glaring and obvious. I think it works better that way.

Besides... if you can't understand the lyrics, just read the liner notes.

  • really? he's not that hard to understand. the only song that 's difficult to make out (besides the ones with distorted vocals) is dollars and cents. pretty sure he's not even using real words in that song...

  • I've sorta wondered for a while now if all of his singing in that songs is with words...good either way though.

  • its very difficult to understand, i listen to screamo and trap rap and i can understand more than radio head..

dont get me wrong radiohead has a great sound, i just cant understand it.. maybe its cuz i dont look up lyrics like most ppl who listen to this..

  • i know im missing the point of this video, but they mapped his head movements flawlessly.

  • Oh, how I love this song. ♫

I forgot how interesting the music video is.

It's a neat idea, having the people simply walk by when destruction is taking place, as if nothing is happening at all. :)

  • That's because that's how we act today, the world is falling apart but we seem to not care for it, not notice it at all, some people because they just don't know, others because they don't want to see it. They're just robots, running through numbers day by day, making the economy run, thus adding to the destruction.

  • its like a bad relationship.

  • You completely understand this video and this song. Excellent interpreting. Thom would give his approval.

  • Goddamn you, VISA. Popping up at the bottom of the vid. Oh the irony. :P

  • Animation is squared out.

  • You have got to be fucking kidding me! I never would have guessed! THANKS CAPTAIN OBVIOUS. dickhead.

  • great song

  • how come i never knew about this video till now?

  • good animation.:)

  • hey dude, I saw you at guitar center today and I started playing it and I told you it was this song. Hopefully you found it!

  • Really awesome music video! Probably my favorite.

  • The one for Pyramid Song has to be, in my opinion, the best music video ever made. This one's a close second.

  • Well, they did know English first.

  • This is my VERY fav. RH video, and song, 2nd is Pyramid Song. They are UNIQUE, and unsurpassed, before, or after. I don't know how to put a song on "continuous repeat". Can you do that?

  • yes, google "loopy for youtube." Its a "grease monkey" plugin. You must have Mozilla Firefox we browser with Grease monkey installed. download and turn on the loopy for you tube script and you can loop individual songs and playlists. =)

  • anyone know what time signature it is in the beginning? it sounds a bit off... in a fitting way

  • It's in array of time sigs, but I know for certain that it has a distinguishable 10/4

  • oh. my count was off haha. thanks

  • 10/4

  • don't hate me you guys but i had no idea Radiohead was from England

  • Where else does musical genius come from?

  • Doors are from California. Sigur Ros and Bjork are from Iceland. Trent Reznor is from Pennsylvania. Michael Jackson was born in Indiana.

... Musical genius comes from the mind and heart... not from where you live.

    .... you fail.

  • I don't live there; and jesus don't take such a statement so anally. There are great artists from other countries, but England is one of the most notable for musical talent.

  • ... relax.

  • You shouldn't have said anything to provoke me! No shut up and listen to Yorke.

  • Hey...... relax....

  • To be fair, you did provoke him.

  • huh?

  • The UK continually produces the most talented musicians. It just never ends. Year after year.

  • i know. makes me embarrased of being an american >:(

  • mmm sure? The only band I love like radiohead actually, is one hiting strong in some Italians radiostations not being a million dollar production has a very interesting stuff. Search SWAVE IN THE FUTURE and u will understand what I mean ;)

  • Thom for Prime Minister!

  • love this song!!!!

  • a question for all those who like to get more out of the video's.

what does the girl represent at 1:10?

i don't have an answer i just wanna know what you all think, 'cos she is the only one with colour, granted it's a green that is only just stands out from the grey.

i know the rose has colour to, but thats not what i'm asking.

  • She represents a prostitute.

  • ur actually wrong if u look closely alomst everything has a color

  • cool video and a great song.

  • great band indeed!

  • this may sound cheesy..but this band fucking changed my life, made me feel good again

  • i know what you mean theyre sick

  • Sick is such a frackin' understatement.

  • for a small island (england) weve done loads we used to own the entire world till we made the mistake of not colonizing america and australia properly and weve produced MOST of the best bands ever

  • WTF ?

"the mistake of not colonizing america and australia properly"

Your comment is really stupid, except for this: we've produced MOST of the best bands ever

  • well that sounded wrong i dont mean mistake as in i hate australia and america i meant in terms of power and our economy lol

because if we didnt we would still be quite rich

    my uncles australian anyway lol

  • Britts are pretty cool, good music, love the way u guys talk, but ur food sucks a huge banger.....

  • yeah is kinda ironic that all those great english bands hated their colonial past and britishness, john lennon even gave money to the ira. but i concur the best bands are english.and im irish and hate u2,not you too, but the band u2

  • so john lennon financially supported the ira thats crazy i wouldnt of thought he would endorse terrorism

i dont really think you can say "all those great english bands hated their britishness" its not like they all hate being british

i know a few do and have shunted their britishness by fucking off to america but still

i have to agree about u2 though the most overrated band going they have basically no substance there are better bands from ireland than u2 tho

  • no,off course if they dont hate being british, but britishness per se,,none of the great british band care much for monarchy and many like the beatles and the smiths take the piss out of the monarchy in songs, i think royalty is disgusting concept,,nothing wrong with being british or irish or whatever but we should all be honest and open about our pasts, history makes music, and music records history,"irish blood english heart is what im made of" as morissey so eloquently puts it .

  • this is my favorite song off of HTTT

  • a question for all those who like to get more out of the video's.

what does the girl represent at 1:10?

i don't have an answer i just wanna know what you all think, 'cos she is the only one with colour, granted it's a green that is only just stands out from the grey.

i know the rose has colour to, but thats not what i'm asking.

  • She was also the only one to stop walking for a minute (to lean on the light). But it was brief, like the color. Kind of like a very brief glimpse of humanity within the chaos?

  • i like your anwer dude.

  • i realy like the begining

  • Best Radiohead song. Fuckin awesome

  • This is really wicked! Love the fact that buildings are crashing and no one give a care in the world. Thom's movements are great! Partitulary when he says "we don need the loonies taking over" And the single rose blowing thou the movement of people. This is very lovely.

  • it's also cool how his face pixelates when he says it

and when he says 'may pretty horses come to you'

  • this song is the shit.

  • "I'm gonna go to sleep and let this wash over me"

    Great song,video,and band!!

  • "we don't need the loonies taking over..." too bad they took over 8 years ago

  • try 96 years ago

  • I always thought of those lines in terms of watergate. The republicans 'don't want the loonies taking over' so they 'tip to round, tie em down' through subterfuge and twisted dealings. Some of the other loonies might be presidents that want to nationalize resources like oil away from exploitative american corporations who bring promises and leave debt. the cia tip toes around (bribery and corruption) and ties them down (coups, banana republics) I wonder if thom was thinking about that stuff.

  • most definately--the video shows the buildings falling, but it also shows them building back up and the whole while a flower still exists, that flower is the symbol of resiliancy--

  • this is a clear statement about post the 9-11 world, as the rest of the album is. The falling buildings represent the fall of the towers, while people walk around the ruin, blind to the absurdity of the straight fall down of the tower due to an impact on the side. also, saying that we need to "tie them all down" after only saying to tie up the "loonies" and "monsters" represents how Bush's policy of eventually holding all sorts of "terrorists" without their right to fair trial.

  • i believe i agree. the album itself had a big theme of this kind of thing. a response to bush and his policies. I don't know if this video gets as specific as the way the buildings fall but i do think it has to do with people ignoring truth as it occurs around them. i especially agree with what you say about the "loonies" and the "monsters" and tying them all down.

  • Another line which shows this:

    "Something big is gonna happen....

    Over my dead body..."

  • what about the buildings reconstructing?

  • i would say that it means that bush is getting away with it, the evidence is covered, and so history may repeat itself once again. its as if it didnt happen... thats what i think the final statement is. btw radiohead is legendary, and they provoke and inspire things in even the deepest reaches of my mind. they are diverse, but i like all of their stuff. theyre the best!

  • OMG.....the last solo by joony greenwood in this song sounds alot better in live

maybe radiohead should make again this song in studio...lol

  • Radiohead hadn't been so swaggering since OK Computer's 'Electioneering' as they are on 'Go to sleep'. I love the beautiful folsky feel of the song and I love the way that the video complements it. I could easily pick Go to sleep as my favourite ever Radiohead song, although I particularly like these as well, to name a few:

    The Bends

    Bones

    Black Star

    Subterranean Homesick Alien

    Karma Police

    The Pyramid Song

    2+2=5

  • Over myyyyy deeeeeeaaaadddd booooooooodddyyyyyy.

  • You know we don't want the monster taking over

    "Tiptoe round tie him down"

We don't want the loonies taking over

    "Tiptoe round tie them down"

they're both taken over, looks like we need to tie them ALL down.

  • OK Computer

  • my favorite radiohead song, i cant stop playing it over and over

  • awesome joony in this one

  • true dat

  • My two-year old goddaughter LOVES Radiohead!

She will contently sit and watch vids for hours if I let her.......

Usually I am as well so it all works out...

  • they can never start too early.

reminds me of when i went to a radiohead concert and saw a mom with two kids, both under ten

  • damn this song is good..i listen to it like 3 times a day

  • this video was made using Havok Physics

  • really?!

i thought it was just preplanned CGI

    give me proof and evidence!

  • @crazyedd123 lol i was joking bro, and sorry for replying 2 years later XD

  • great song great vid!!!!!!

  • why are all HTTT-songs double entitled?? What's the use of that :S

  • intended ambiguity i guess...

  • pito

  • I get the Disney references of little people tying down a giant...

  • That's not a disney thing. that comes from "gulliver's travels"

  • this song is about abraham lincoln

  • The vids almost as awesome as the song!!!

  • Does this song remind anyone else of Bush's reaction to hurricane Katrina?

  • this song is so good

  • me too.

  • this is the song that got me into radiohead, its pure brilliance

  • wow, great song. reminds me of fight club

  • wonderful

  • What a song for the zeitgeist right now!!! I'm at that stage where if I listen to any other band, it only makes me appreciate Radiohead that much more

  • agreed

  • Radiohead is a great band

But never forget about, nirvana,Alice in chains, led zeppelin, pinkfloyd, the doors, beatles, all old but great bands

  • the classic rock bands will always be #1 in my book. for me led zeppelin tops all.

radiohead is really the last hope for real music; they are the very last band with real talent and passion for their music.

  • exactly what I think. Radiohead is the only great band these days. theres a few other bands I like.

  • i agree to an extent

led zepp, deep purple, floyd will always be great

and whilst radiohead seem to be the only good band round now days there is still hope out there. Death Cab for Cutie is really good, and are worth a listen. im not keen to write off music all together, even though it looks bleak

  • write off music all together?!? looks that bleak?

now, now; it's not that bad.

  • and tool...

please please listen tool. Aenima and Lateralus, great great albums..

  • YES! 2 of my all time fave albums, particularly Lateralus.Tool and Radiohead are definetly the best bands

  • super agreed...i try to listen and apreciate other bands, but damn radiohead seems to be so much better!!!

  • yeaa agreed too! joint to the zeitgeist movement, people really wants freedom!

  • he will come to his senses sooner or later, Radiohead is the future of music.

  • no no you're right dtxdestoyer - that other guy lostdon7 is stupid - not you - it's all coming down and radiohead is just a bit ahead of their time.

  • rampet runners run online in a swift imagination of what the masses will become to devour what we know between these demintions media is fed in a way i hope youv'e learned to block the freqency the same way i have.... comment below this might say aluminum foil!

i say evolution! you have the brain power to evolve! sorry for the typos ha im drinking!

  • I miss them like that

  • ohh what a song, what an underrated song. The accoustic is so straight forward and original, it gets me exhilarated. Makes me feel like i'm about to go on some huge road trip or sumthin. And then later it calms down with different and nonetheless amazing accoustics. The second chorus with the women's voices in the background is awesome along with the classic mini-solo.

  • that's Ed's voice XD

  • You described the blues! .... so this band sold there soul to the devil too!?!?!? I wouldnt disagree.... Thats the blues if I'v ever heard it!

  • Wow it's scary how up to date this song is right now, with the American economy going to hell, wich has consequenses for Europe, too.

  • DAAAAAAAAAMNNNN I LOVEEEE GREENWOOD'SS SOLOO!!! ufffffffffff he is soooo amazinngggg

    YOU ROCK JHONNY

  • wow. this is the first radiohead video i ever saw. i was about eight and in a record store. nice to find it again. :)

  • This is a great song to sing along with/to.

  • Great animation. Even his gammy eye is realistic

  • hail to the thief is such an amazing album. i can listen to the whole thing over and over again and never get bored.

  • favourite track of Radiohead at the moment, and videoclip. Just bought the best of DVD. Has all the videoclips. This one is epic!! can they get any better, at the absolute pinacle in my opinion.

  • JESUS CHRIST... why have I never seen this before? Fookin amaAAAAzin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a beautiful song from the world's greatest rock band.

  • One of their most underrated songs in my opinion

  • one of the best bands ever!!

  • i don't think we do any justice by compartmentalizing all our artisits and genre's and then mashing them up against one another for comparison

music is art, art is what you make of it, and it can be argued all day

The teeny bopper and the "punk" all have their places . W/o the bad you can't appreciate the good as much.

  • Finally! thank God! someone who understands! you're my hero.

  • It's simple. Thom, at the beginning, sees how fucked up the world really is. However, he decides to not give a fuck, "go to sleep", imagining, like the rest of us, that everything is nice and dandy.

  • Radiohead = Brilliant.

  • agreed, my friend, agreed.

  • this song is pretty upbeat and relatively popppy for a post Kid A Radiohead song

  • have you heard the new album? there's several great "upbeat and relatively poppy" songs on it. That may be good or bad depending on your taste for the band. if you like the slower ones, theres a few of those too. I'd definitely recommend checking it out if you haven't.

  • Maybe you can argue that House of Cards and 15 Steps are relatively upbeat songs. But none of the other songs from In Rainbows is as upbeat as Go to Sleep

  • to call this emo. you've got to check your meaning of emo.rock on radiohead

  • A minute inside the head of Thom Yorke. He sees society collapsing around him, but nobody notices. He's going to go to sleep (as well), and let it wash all over him - he stops observing, gets up and moves on.

  • Actually watch again. I think he witnesses a long passage of time that as been abbreviated into symbolized actions. When the buildings collapse, they are early 20th century classical style, but when they recollect, they are in a contemporary style. Also the flower is closed at the start, and in bloom at the end.

  • There is definitely meaning in what you've noticed, perhaps 'getting off the bench' at the end symbolises waking up after years and years of not seeing the obvious (today's global warming crisis, oil prices, etc). The flower could have a thousand meanings, I thought that was a fairly ubiquitous symbol. (still important though)
