  • Gosh I remember this I was going fucking crazy it was just sick they couldn't touch him lol

  • Helm > other team

  • So awesome!

  • For me, most hilarious part is how Campbell (51) went to cover back post. Yep. That is where you should go. LOL.

  • I should add that the ovation he recieved lasted for quite awhile too.

  • I was there!!!! Helmer is awesome

  • the best part is at :23. Helm was trained well by Maltby on the PK.

  • we rarely see players show that much heart in a single Shift...

  • No matter how many times I watch this, I still get chills. Darren Helm is a BEAST. Go Wings

  • gotta find out where to buy those boots of lightning!

    GO HELM!

  • If Helm can add a solid Deke/Shot to his skills then he could easily be a 20-30 Goal Scorer every year. I love the fact that we never rebuild, we just reload.

  • @blackhawkssuckdick- I gotta ask, are you a redwings fan?

  • Darren Helm is the fucking man! Future face of the organization, knew it when i first saw him play. He gives his all every shift, even if he didn't, no one on the ice would be able to keep up with him.

  • This is kinda like a shorter version of the Giroux shift.

  • @kidkong584 please post the link to the vid you are refering to. I cant find it. thanks.

  • @zillatattoo /watch?v=GEv0M1ohI_4

This was game 7 of that series when they came down from 3 games to 0

  • @kidkong584 , yeah, that was pretty epic...thanks.

  • @zillatattoo your welcome.

  • They dont call his line the grind line for nothing, he did something similar this year against the Sharks but it wasn't on home ice, nor was it as long but still...his work ethic is second to none. I remember watching this play thinking "holy shit" and got chills when he went to the net. As a Red Wings fan I was mesmerized by this play and Im not surprised Youtube suggests/autocompletes it, my dad as a Blackhawks fan was pissed...but hes the one that got to see them raise the cup a year later!

  • "Darren Helm is phenomenal, tearing around the ice like a five-year-old who just inhaled a pound-and-a-half of Nerds or pancake syrup." Does anything else really need to be said?

  • @chaldochamp3 Best description ever.

  • nobody in hockey is more dangerous while being short handed

  • what a beast!

  • not even a wings fan but holy christ what a player. damn you wings for drafting so well!!!

  • @theunicorntaxi HAHAHA! Good one! Helm always makes penalty kills interesting. Not to mention his penchant for scoring the occasional shorthander.

  • my fave wing besides pav

  • CBC commentators rarely seem to shut up.

I love the dead silence for 5-6 seconds as they are mesmerized by Helm's play. He must be good if he can make them stop talking.

  • The 6 dislikes are from the 5 players on the ice plus Huet for the Hawks

  • @CoreyPerrySucks corey perrys unreal

  • @WheelSnipeUnited I just dont like him, he's a big good who has to go after smaller players just to feel better about himself

  • Helm= BEAST!!!!!!!!! GO Wings, I hope we keep him for a long long time

  • Great to see fans cheering something like this!

  • hes so fast and goes so hard

  • Bobby Orr did that every PK

  • @skydome29 that's cool

  • Helm is my favorite Wings player at the moment. Works hard every night, kicks ass, every day is looking more and more like Datsyuk. Plus, I love his new beard.

  • what a helm of a play !

  • Jim Houston just isn't the same without Don Taylor... (NHL video game reference for those who don't know). Can't wait to see how Helm does in the future.

  • that was clutch

  • I was at this game, there were as many cheers for this as some games get for goals

  • FRICKEN BEAST!!!!!!! HELMY!!

    HELMS DEEEP!

  • My favorite part about this is that the CBC crew (from my experience, Canadians are generally less egotistical and dickish than Americans) recognize the "knowledgeable Detroit crowd". Asshole fans of every other team in the NHL will say Detroit has shitty fans, when videos like this prove the opposite without a doubt. There's fans of teams in this league that wouldn't lift a finger to cheer over a shift like this.

  • and that's why we call him danger :)

  • I love these hardworking players.

  • the play by play commentator reminds me of the times when i played nhl 2006 :D

  • This gives me goosebumps every time I see it!

  • i remember watching this game live and flipping out thinking this guy was amazing . im a canucks fan til i die but ive always liked the red wings , very classy team .. especially when May was the first one to Ryan Johnson's side when he was hurt badly when the nucks vs'd the wings .

i was in awe watching this guy beat out everyone . ive liked him ever since i saw this one game , good luck red wings . very worthy opponents .

  • and... re-signed.

  • 0:24 Nice hit, Campbell...

  • @ottawan613 nice eye

  • Even Jonathan Toews said that the hawks made some mistakes that series. But I'm glad they lost to the red wings that year. I don't think they were ready for a Stanley Cup. I'm a Hawks fan and I'm happy the hawks won THIS season instead of one before. They are still on the rise GO HAWKS!!!

  • @sirhonestharry since when does "on the rise" mean dumping half of your team, and *still* being over the cap? fucking idiot. lrn2hockey.

  • @sirhonestharry

    I smell a bandwagoner

  • gotta love the nightmare on helm street

  • "When's the last time you saw a standing ovation for a penalty kill?" THAT, mutherfuckers, is how it's done.

  • @triplexxxsatyr we did it in Philly for Giroux

  • @77HeIix The Giroux play was not short handed and all he did was keep the puck in his skates.

  • @Kiri4872 lol you can't tell me what Giroux did wasn't sick though

  • Helm owns

  • The scary thing is that if Helm starts developing under Datsyuk in the offseason he could turn very nasty. His stickhandling has noticeably gotten better since the start of the season and he'll have a lot of time to improve in the offseason when there aren't so many other things to worry about.

  • This is Red Wings hockey?

Felt like I was watching fuckin' road runner.

  • The Joe was actually louder for this than when they scored the 1st goal. But after the OT goal, I couldn't hear myself scream. And that's not an exaggeration.

  • Go son! Go son! THAT'S effort, lads.

  • That was sick I remember this... Helm is a tank

  • He said it best: "When was the last time you saw a standing ovation for a penalty kill?"

  • Helm is a fuckin tank!

  • I hate the redwings, but this was THE shift of the playoffs.. brilliant work.

  • to bad the redwings have 11 stanley cups

  • i would rethink that ........we just franzen back

  • Sorry, I didn't catch that. You wanna repeat yourself?

  • AHhhhhhh watching this brings back memories of that game, I was SO FUCKIN PUMPED UP watching him work that Penalty Kill I was very very proud of him in that moment

My eyes are tearin up remembering the emotions I was going through as a Red Wings fan during that game ESPECIALLY on that play....geez, Im gonna watch this over and over

  • This and Abdelcater (misspelled) were my favorite moments of that series.

  • One-man-army!

  • That was awesome! :) I remember that haha. hes doing so great this year! He works so hard and has soooo much speed

  • This guy is such a work horse. I really like him in that line with Eaves and Draper. I've grown to like a lot of this young talent.

  • get the chills everytime i see and hear about this

  • It simply does not get better than this. That is true clutch hockey.

  • Awesome, simply awesome.

  • I hope Darren can excell in the future years. Not to just be a grinder in the NHL.. But to be a goal scorer, because he definately has the potential

  • ha your comment was foreshadowing, he has 5 goals in 5 games so i think hes coming into his own

  • Je pas parle en anglais

  • Darren Helm is great. I'd like to see him really start to produce this season though

  • Helm does have the most hustle and of course speed on the redwings. Possibly one of the best future players in the NHL

  • totally earned his spot and not only with this play...my hero from the playoffs!

  • "...and he's got the puck again!"

LMAO. I'm so happy he has a permanent roster spot. GO WINGS.

  • lol thats 7 million $ being schooled in the corner(campbell) agiants a 900,000$ rookie.

  • "...And he's got the puck again!!"

    Wicked Awesome

  • And thanks to the poster of this video. My favorite memory of the Cup run. (that and the fans singing KISS after a face off.)

    Helm, you have a fan.

  • TheTigersWingsFan

This kid, and he IS a kid, has been a 4th liner who played 23 games in two seasons. Of course his numbers are soft. 2009-10 will be his first full season as a Wing.

He is not Ovechkin, and no one says he is, but they love him already because you just don't see brilliant penalty killing like that in games.

Its why the fans stood when he left the ice.

Tenacity, grit, and drive. The Wings are willing to give this kid time to mature into a well rounded player, and so am I.

  • And you've gotta love his speed... He flies!

  • i really don't see what the big deal about this kid is, yes i am a wings fan and i watch this kid every night. he has played in 28 regular season games he has 2 assists 0 goals and a -10. yes he has speed but what good is speed when he loses the puck because he is too quick for his own skill. red wing fans will soon learn that this kid isnt as good as people think he is. please respond back i want to hear your opinion.

  • It's not like he's going to be a superstar, there is just about a 90% chance he will be a career grinder.

28 regular season games doesn't always show how a player will be for the rest of his career.

  • Have you also watched hin in the playoffs the last 2 seasons? He was incredible on the 4th line. He had the series clinching goal against the Blackhawks in overtime and had the goal that put the wings up in game 7 against the ducks. He's only like 22. He'll never be a player like Ovie, nobody thinks that. But he's a great player who can check hard, has plenty of speed and his capable of scoring huge goals when needed.

  • i could have scored that goal he scored against the blackhawks, anybody could have. and he used his speed to get the goal against the ducks. and a never doubted his speed, i gave him credit for his speed. your right he is a fourth liner, but i have heard people say he is so underrated and he is the fastest player in the league.

  • To Canada orientation camp coaches and general managers :

Ryan Smyth the old goat and Mcdonald gets an invite but this guy doesn't ?????!!!!!!

You invite Robidas and you don't invite this guy!!!!???? i hope Russia shuts you out in the final!

  • well said ,russia is lookin real scary for the olympics.........smyth and robidas really?....jeez i would invite helm and myers from buffalo he looked real solid againts the wings this week .he's gonna be huge like chara.

  • Helm will soon become a common household name for Red Wings fans.

He's easily gonna be the next Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Lidstrom

  • no he wont be .. your way off hes not like any of those players at all

  • I think you misunderstood me. :)

What I meant was that Helm will become synonymous with the Red Wings.

Just about any Red Wings fans, if asked to name some of the most popular Red Wings, will undoubtedly say something along the lines of "Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, Lidstrom" etc. Helm is gonna be on that list very soon if he keeps that up :D

  • your a girl .. you know nothing about hockey you said hell be the next datsyuk. Im sorry your an idiot

  • I'm a guy.

You're an idiot for not having basic reading comprehension.

I tried being nice, but you continue to insult me.

I'm not saying Helm has the EXACT SAME skill as Datsyuk or Zetterburg or Franzen. Everyone I had mentioned has a specialty at something (ie: Datsyuk is great at dekes)

Helm is fast. Helm is agile. He's gonna be a famous Red Wing if he sticks with the team. That's all I'm saying.

  • Zetterberg*

  • haha you talk like a chick and you got beyonce on your profile and shit i thought you were a girl .. you still know nothing about hockey what level do you play

  • He sounds like a chick? First of all he's not talking... Secondly he's not typing like a girl...

Apparently from what you're typing, you think ever guy should type with at least 3 spelling mistake per line and insult everyone in the comments section.

    That's not a man, that's a teenager. You're not older than... what? 16? 17?

  • coming from the guy with fucken cartoons on his favorites ? what are you five ? dragon ball z haha get out of here

  • Again with the immaturity... You need to grow up, or you'll go nowhere in life.

  • Your speaking with perfect grammar to make people think your an intelligent adult, your a 13 year old kid who loves anime haha

  • No...

    He's more like a Draper...

    Except a LOT better.

  • It's hard not to be better than Draper, my dog is probably better

  • In his prime... Draper was the BEST penalty killer in the league...

Not to mention he is still the best faceoff man.

But yes, now... He is pretty bad.

  • thats what i call a great penalty kill

    more like a hawk kill

  • The ONLY thing he could've done better was pass to Zetterberg in betwixt the circles instead of trying to stuff it himself. Definite shorty...Z is deadly from that spot.

Oh well. Helm will learn these things this year. Drop. The. Puck.

  • helm is going to be a beauty

  • Comment removed

  • i guess that in that situation campbell finally realized that he shouldn't be a d-man :D

  • this shit is unbelievable..

    gives me gooseflesh! n1

    go flyers!

  • This kid is amzing!!! Evertime he is on the ice he is threat to the other team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lol at sharp and campbell they got there ass kicked by hard work and speed.helm ,abdelkader, ericcson, leino, and howard will shine next year.williams and eaves will work for me.most people thought cleary would flop.

  • This guy is so sweet. He has huge potential

  • True playoff performer. I don't see him having the potential to be one of the top-forwards in the league, but certainly one of the best 3rd line checking-role penalty killer tpye guy.

  • he is fucking amazing and i know none of u belive me but the stick he used there. i have it now. the camp on in is called bob charelston over speed training and his son dan charelston was drafted by detroit in like 07 and he plays on grand rapids now he lives near me and cause he knew im a detroit fan cause u dont see detorit fans in chicgo he gave me the stick i chose between datsyuks used o stick from last yr or helms new o stick from this year so i took tht its so nice says helm in name plate

  • I was blown away by his demonstration of skill in the playoffs. He has the potential to become one of the great forwards in the nhl.

  • darren helm is a babee <3

  • fucking ownage :D Helm rocks

  • im from Sweden and i think Helm is the best player in Detriot :)...i hope he can prove it next year....really love how he plays!

  • wow its nice

    <3<3<3<3<3 to red wings

  • Helmed : to dominate; in an orderly fashion, KICK ASS!

  • so fuckin true man haha

  • helm is a monster - awesome play!

  • He fucking owns Sharp after the scoring chance. It's not even fair when a guy combines world-class skill and a work ethic like that.

  • wow. that kid has a great future. unbelivable look at him fight for the puck!

  • future husband right there. haha just kidding.

  • I cant wait for him to be full time next season

  • i was pissed about ht eloss of samuelsson, hossa, but were bring up helm, fillpulla has full time slot, abdelkadr hopefluly. lots of young talent, going to be sweet.

  • yeah and because we dont have hudler anymore i think they might sign leino (sorry i misspelled his name)

  • Helm is the future of the Red Wings. Ken Holland isn't letting him go anywhere. After this coming season, I see a long term contract for him in hockeytown.

  • fuck yeah go Helm and Go Red Wings Were takin the cup back crosby you little crybaby

  • hard to believe i went to high school with this guy...

  • he has developed so well...i look forward to seeing him frequently this season.

  • damnnnnnn

    go wingssssssssssssssssssssssss

  • how in the hell does detriot keep finding these guys? thats fing unbeleivable espically for a 22yo

  • Best scouting and development staff in the league. This team will be around for a while :)

  • That's unbelievable....

  • kick ass...

    helms amazing

next year its...nightmare on helm street lol

  • haha. got that right

  • selkirk or standrews darren helm is the deffinition of hockey in manitoba oh ok taves or how ever you spell it ok he comes from here to but we dont talk about winnipegers i mean think of chris jerrico or the watchmen

  • Thats the pride of St.Andrews right there

    Helm is unreal

  • Reminds me of Steve Yzerman

  • glad that i can say i trained with him and watched him play in the juniors for the MEDICINE HAT TIGERS

  • I love this guy...we got so much talent on the wings

  • Go REDWINGS

  • DARREN HELM OWNS!

  • This guy is going to be a superstar in the future.

  • I'd be giving him a standing ovation too if I was there

  • What the Helm?!

That was great. It's great to see our young guys stepping up in the playoffs.

  • helm is the next ovechkin!

  • brilliant

  • That's MVP HardWare Man

  • Love him!

  • Such effort. Brilliant play.

  • great job sticking with it and working hard.

  • sick

    favorite player right there

  • absolutely beautiful.

  • thatäs how you fucking play a boxplay! awesome

  • what a puck hog haha

  • Great Penalty Kill....... Good Job Helm!!!!!

  • Helm is a beast

  • nice effort

  • To hockeymidget8 - Yeah you might be right, but you have to spend at least three years in the minors learning what they call Red Wings hockey. Pass, pass, pass, pass, and then score.

  • Thanks for posting this. I asked on a thread (Mlive or ESPN) that if anybody had this on tape to please post it. As Dick Vitale would say, "Awesome baby". Helm is big-time.
