how do they know it is that old

@iorixs Not sure which stone you mean but if Arthur's Stone, others similar stones in the area have been excavated. All have been aged by archaeologists.

@iorixs .Human remains and other organic material have been found in it. They can be carbon dated. Often these burialsd also have certain types of pottery which can be matched to other finds and dated that way.

@sonofherne im not sure how accurate carbon dating is, how can they verify its accuracy

@iorixs It's accurate to within a span of 500 years and getting better every year, and sometimes as low as 50. There are other ways of testing too,like thermoluminescence, strontium analysis, petro chemical testing... These can be used in conjunction with c14 dating to obtain similiar results. If they match, then you have a good indication that your dates are correct.

@eclipse1002001 Thank you. Absolutely! I was going to cover St. Anthony's Well but the video was getting too long. I have shot other film since and plan to make another on the subject at some stage - will definitely cover it when I do that.
