I'd rather push a REAR-WHEEL-DRIVE car than drive a wrong-wheel-drive car.
FWD is for sissies and real men drive RWD!
I appologize for the rants. I'm old school. I believe that FWD is the stupidest invention in the history of humantiy and that the idiot who invented it should be hung by his toe hairs and beat with a timing belt (the second stupidest invention in the history of humanity). If you can't drive a RWD car in bad weather, you should just tear up your license and ride a moped.
This is somewhat of a biased race. We all know that turbocharged engines love high altitudes. Whereas normally aspirated engines don't. The Euro V-8's won't be putting out as much power up there as they would at sea level. In this high-altitude setting, the turbocharged Lincoln will shine. It may even win. But up against 3 RWD premium luxury sedans, I don't think the lowly Taurus-based MKS will have the stones to win.
Lincoln staoped the LS model to start from zero with MKS for sure the car will have many issues. The japenses are good in continuous improvement of the same model until they make it perfect. Honda civic is a crappy car but never brakes down ,Lincoln is definitely a great car but comes with a lot of headach and hidden fees. Lincoln makes Unreliable cars in general . The steelearship will bankrupt you if you go to him that’s for sure. Go to google and type Lincoln mks reviews it got very poor.
@croxrap you should go ahead and tell which reviews?? The only negative review online for this vehicle is from some joker from a site called "thetruthaboutcars" .... and he referred to Lincoln as Ford's "premium" in quotations, brand. He instantly discredited himself with that phrase as biased in the first 6 words of his review. Every other review online for this vehicle rates it at least 8 out of 10, and owners rate the car at least 9 out of 10. Ignore Edmunds and this other site
@justice008a I really hope Lincoln has improved reliability . Me I based my comments on the online reviews from Edmunds and other blogs where many users said having problems .I had a Lincoln in the past the LS model and let me tell you that in term of reliability im not very impressed ,I mean it is not the worst ,but it is not the best either. The stealership however has no mercy on you they charge you the price of a luxury cruse on the pacific for for any small repair . Future will tell
@croxrap you need to find a better dealer. One of the perks of having a Lincoln is you're not supposed to pay a penny for maintenance and repair. I've never paid one cent to Lincoln after purchase for scheduled maintenance and repair. BMW will charge ridiculous money for maintaining their vehicles, and the new Lincolns are at least on par with Lexus and Acura for reliability
@STHinder - EcoBoost is actually an apt name. Eco for both Economy and Ecology; they use less gas than the V8s they compare against. Boost is referencing the boost from the twin turbos.
Twin Force is perhaps the worst name I could imagine for that car. Twin Force conjures up visions of past offerings that will drain the tank dry in 5 seconds at full throttle. Offerings like the GMC Typhoon and the Callaway Corvette. Those aren't very marketable today, with high gas prices.
@Slipknotyk06 i know all about the car, i sold them, im just sayin that the market for such a car (including all of fords products with ecoboost) is not interested in a name like ecoboost, trust me i know, maybe twinforce is not the best as well but ecoboost does not make the car anymore attractive to potential buys, it does not reinforce the present twin turbos and again makes the car seem to be a pussy as hybrid with no pick up
@STHinder - Did you actually watch the end result of this video?
5th was the Maserati, 4th was the Jaguar, 3rd was the Mercedes, 2nd was the Lincoln, 1st was the BMW. The fact it held its own against vehicles 20-30 grand more expensive shows this vehicle is FAR from a pussy. In this segment, you have to market these vehicles as BOTH economical AND powerful. Ecoboost does that. I struggle to find an other name that does that.
@Slipknotyk06 The problem with the results is the high altitude. Turbocharged engines shine in high altitude situations. Normally aspirated engines lose power. If the test were done again at sea level, the MKS would probably have finished a distant last.
@tjhaywood100 - Each naturally aspirated motor tested would have had at least 50 HP more at sea level. I agree the Lincoln would have been a distant last. However, what do you expect for a vehicle that costs 20 grand less than the closest of the listed competitors?
@tjhaywood100 - It's not truly a "bargain basement" vehicle. It's a vehicle that's trying to compete with vehicles well outside its own class. A bargain basement vehicle would be like a Hyundai Genesis 4 door, which is trying to compete with the same crowd as the Lincoln, by proxy.
@Slipknotyk06 I have to agree. But at least the Genesis is a real RWD luxury car with a V-8 engine. So it really can compete with the likes of Cadillac, BMW, and Mercedes.
@tjhaywood100 - Aren't there AWD models of all these vehicles? I personally think pure RWD is outdated on this level of vehicle. IDK about the Hyundai.
Personally, if I'm looking for a vehicle in the 50-grand range, I am NOT buying a rwd (ESPECIALLY since I only live an hour away from Loveland Pass) because simply stated our winters are far too harsh.
@Slipknotyk06 I don't think there are AWD versions of these specific vehicles that were tested. But Mercedes and BMW have AWD versions of some of their models. Jaguar, I don't know about. Hyundai doesn't have and AWD Genesis that I know of. The problem with the MKS's system is that it's a front-biased, part time system. So 99% of the time, it's in wrong-wheel-drive mode. It's a matter of preference, but I despise FWD. I've never owned a FWD car and I never will.
@tjhaywood100 - Have you driven regularly in snow? FWD bites better in snow because there is more weight over the front wheels. This makes a FWD-biased AWD superior on snow and ice. RWD is absolute crap in snow. A RWD biased AWD tends to oversteer in snow just like a regular RWD.
You truly wouldn't notice the difference, in this lincoln. On hard take offs it sends enough to the rear that you won't get excessive wheel spin. I doubt you could even chirp the tires without neutral-dropping it.
@Slipknotyk06 FWD's perceived superiority in inclement weather is a crutch for those who don't know how to drive a real RWD car in the snow. I've never owned a FWD car. And I've never been stuck in the snow. RWD is only crap if you don't know how to drive. I don't have any problems with mine.
@tjhaywood100 - I've owned all drive types. I've owned AWD, 4WD, RWD, and FWD. FWD is more stable in snow than RWD. Where we live, we get 3-5 feet of snow at a shot, and the 4WD with a good low range is by far the best. RWD can't even get 20 feet in those conditions.
But, in town, FWD cars are more prevalent than RWD cars because they do better in deep snow, and do FAR better on ice.
@Slipknotyk06 I prefer RWD/4x4. I can't drive a FWD car. The sight of a sideways engine fills me with a terrible rage. I have no problem driving any of my RWD cars in snowy or icey conditions. I'm not saying it's easy, I'm just saying I can do it. And I have no problem doing it. I'd rather struggle with a RWD car than to even stand next to a wrong-wheel-drive car, much less drive one. But that's my opinion. I have high standards when it comes to my vehicles. FWD is too cheesy for me.
@tjhaywood100 - Not all FWD cars have a sideways engine. Case in point being a Dodge Intrepid, and the 1994 New Yorker I once owned. The 65 Olds Toronado that started the FWD thing had the engine mounted longitudinal.
You're just picky and stubborn. I get it. It's not that you have high standards, you'd just rather struggle with outmoded technology than admit something else works better.
My old 82 New Yorker got stuck a few times, and was the most frustrating vehicle in snow I've ever owned.
@Slipknotyk06 Yeah, I know about the Toro and the LH cars. Some older Acuras also had longitudinal engines as well as some Saabs. Yes, I'm stubborn. I've hated wrong-wheel-drive for 30 years and I don't plan to stop now. FWD is for cheap Korean econoboxes, not for premium luxury cars. That's why the majority of high end luxury/performance cars use that "outmoded" RWD technology. I'm a driving enthusiast. I like to enjoy drving. RWD provides me with that enjoyment. FWD can't.
@Slipknotyk06 Oh yeah, the Toronado came out in 1966, not '65. And to be honest, I like that car. The '66 Toro is one of the few FWD cars I'd own. But only because it is a beautiful car and a classic. Not because of its drivetrain. With the 455 V-8 in that thing, I'll bet it was a torque-steering bastard! I really wouldn't want to tackle a FWD car with that much torque only going to the front wheels. Scary...
@SecularTechnology That was back in the 80's and early 90-'s. Did you realize that Cadillac has returned to RWD so it can compete with other RWD European luxury cars? What's it like under that rock?
@SecularTechnology Only two modern Caddy's are FWD. The DTS and the SRX. The rest are RWD. And neither BMW nor Mercedes make a FWD car. All their vehicles are RWD/AWD. Unless you know something I don't.
This video would be cool, but they didn't use the TOP cars in the class from those companies. Ford took their top of the line and put it up against the competition's upper-mid range models (e.g. 550i instead of an M5)
ur all misunderstanding the concept. Fords point wasnt to say its cars are the best and fasest. Its to show their improvment of their quailty and craftsmenship. They can make more power with that motor without turbos but to make it, emissions legal, quiet, and reliable, basicly a Lincoln, its hard. The point of this was to show that this car can run with the more expensive cars in its class and other higher classes and not lose its lincoln heritage.
Yeah you can say it has all of that induction but ppl dont complain how porsche 911 has turbo and ppl love that car. im a fan muscle cars but in these days the youngens are putting turbos and nos in those 4 bangers and 6 cylinders to get speed. i cant stand those ricers
