All of us o' course are natives of the Earth ....... we none o' us own it. The Celts knew this fact: No man owns the earth he lives on. Soon our Creator will take it back from the interlopers. No one owns the tittle to hard knocks, just ask around. The people of China faced this song's subject, the people who did not give a single damn about the Seneca, faced the same with the TVA! Our Creator Jehovah promises better, wait fer it, it will not be late. Just good pard, purty work.
Paper promises are worthless. Investors at MF Global were bitten by their own bad medicine. I don't know about my ancestors but I am getting a kick out of it right now.
as a person of mixed white and indian blood, i belive that it is right and good to humbly bow my head in shame. why is it soo difficult for other white people to do? so many times i hear 'i didn't do it. i didn't steal it. i was born here.' show respect! do you believe that you are an american now because what's done is done? and what's been done? our history is genocide. bow your head! i was soo unfortunate as to be born with the last name kennedy. i will change my name!
I, too, am Seneca, raised in Vermont, got Canadian French blood in there, too. We are proud of our blood, we are dark skinned, black haired and green eyed, none the less, indian, am nicknamed Cat Eyes
America is a special land. How could it happen? A land founded on "freedom" which was built by genocide and slavery. And today there is no freedom for anyone. Is this land cursed?
I'm seneca from Salamanca, New York in the Allegany Indian Reservation, all seneca indian's here in Salamanca is fed up with the New York State Government trying to force us into paying taxes on not just gas or tobacco but wanting to tax us for the casino that we had built here in Salamanca, New York State has no right to force us in paying any taxing on this reservation or any other, they'er trying to break the treaty which isn't right for them to do.
@barredok The Seneca's are trying to rebuild the case and take it to the US Surpreme Court since the case has been thrown out here in New York 3 times. I feel the courts of this state will help protect the New York State Government from a lawsuit, which is probley the reason why the case was thrown out of court 3 diffrent times in the past.
I was very young when this happened and my father helped build this dam. I just found this song and the actual facts pertaining to the relocation, I had not idea and there are no words.....
its not about feeling guilt for something your ancestors done simply never forget so history may not repeat for a future peoples and just be the best yall can be
i am not ashamed of being white, i didn't steal anything from anyone. but i am ashamed of my government, and through voting for the green party, I hope to repair some damage done. but no matter what I do, no one can really set the wrongs right.
beautiful song. my great great grandpa was burried in Red House. his grave was lost for a long time after it was relocated. his son and my granny searched for his grave for a long time. she finally found it a year after her father died.
I lived near there for 7 years. {The best 7 years growing up.} I have seen the lake. I cry every time I go by there on RT17. My blood brother is Seneca and my wife is Mohawk.
@MrMaddDog2020 Wonder when we will exalt Native Americans! Until that happens we will never be able to truly hold our heads high as Americans. That is my opinion, but it is plain to see that we are decling in whatever greatness we have accomplished. The probelm is that it was done so in murder, thievery and promise-breaking. Native People, I am sorry!
I rode through the valley before they flooded the land for the Kinzu dam It was one of the saddest days of my life and still brings tears to my heart.
My wife's Daddy had Cherokee blood in his veins and she grieves for the Native American's plight, does what she can to support the tribal schools, etc. but genocide can't be redeemed. As Waylon sings in the song "America":... "And the red man is right to expect a little from you, A promise and then follow through, America." White men's culture could learn a lot from the First Nations.
although any heritage i have to Indian blood would be difficult to prove but i have ties or attachments to this song. My father was born on or near the reservation as my grandfather was doing work up there. as i was growing up i was up to the damn several times and even taking a few trips solo to just enjoy what nature is unspoiled and un-betrayed. I also grew up up in Oil City some of the land Cornplanter lost
Sadly this story has been & continues to be repeated countless times. There is no promise a politician can make other than to increase their own power & influence.God Bless the Seneca & my Cherokee/Creek brothers & sisters
my grandfather was a full blooded seneca chief(alexander jamieson). my father took his step dads last name johnson so i am a johnson... and my grandma was cayuga so my dad and i are cayuga too. my dad was singing this song when he was visiting last :) he will be happy to know its on youtube lol...
