This was a killer performance by Michael Parks, but all the same, I kind of wish it had been performed by Ricardo Montalban as originally intended. It would've been an awesome last performance opportunity for him. But something fell through. You can see however, if you're familiar with Montalban, how this part seems totally written for him.
I whispered "I must warn you, young lady, I am susceptible to flattery" into my girls ear, a girl I was trying to hook up with, and... It worked like a charm :) We were gettin it on just 5 minutes after that :)
TARANTINO INGENIOUSLY SELECTS BEAUTIFUL MELODIES USED IN 1960 CLINT EASTWOOD MOVIES THAT ARE NOW PUBLIC DOMAINE...STILL I GIVE "QT" CREDIT .....................................................I CANT WAITE FOR KILL BILL 3......AS CARADINES DAUGHTER AND VERNITA'S DAUGHTERS GO TO THE SAME SCHOOL FOLLOW PARENTS FOOT STEPS IN CRIME..AND TAKE REVENGE ON KIDDO ....YOU HEARD IT 1ST FROM ...ONE AND ONLY >>>~~~ARROWKEYBOARDMAN~~~>
I love how his accent is not just "stock spanish man", but authentically Cuban-sounding. You can tell it's a man from Cuba who learned English. idk, I just love it when actors get their specifics right.
I watch Part 1 and Part 2 immediately after and I did not click that this actor played 2 completely different parts in each film. Michael Parks is surely one of the most underrated actors going. In this scene especially he takes my complete attention. I love how he plays Esteban to be quite sleazy (with the winks), but also he's incredibly charming. How many actors could do unpleasant and curiously pleasant at the same time?
i love him....even though he's meant to be a cruel character there's something very soothing about him....briliant actor, brilliant movie, brillian scene.
Hell yeah, I fucking love Michael Parks. I only ever saw him in stuff by Quentin Tarantino though, but Earl McGraw is the coolest damn sheriff I ever saw.
Wonder if the cock crowing in the background when Esteban begins to talk about Bill was Tarantino using the biblical connection of Peter betraying Jesus or just a Mexican chicken coop folley??
@amlecce Could be, but then again, there's allways the danger of overanalyzing his movies and seeing references where there actually aren't any. If it does signify a betrayal on Esteban's part than he would have to be lying when he says that Bill would want him to help Beatrix find him. I don't really know why he would lie about that.
I hate that performances like this go largely unnoticed, yet Niocolas Cage is widely considered to be a good actor. There's something wrong with humanity.
one of many gem scenes in this kill bill vol.2. the sandwich scene with bill, kiddo and their daughter is also a noteworthy one -- i think thats the biggest gem of them all.
I just watched KB 2 again for like the 8th time. It is just unbelievable how good it is. This seen is just great, he is unreal. I love it: "Where's Bill". The acting of everyone in this movie is awesome, every scene is simple better than the next.
@ 2:01 - The book that Esteban is reading is not a real book; the book functions not only as a prop but as an inside joke. It's a tribute to a member of the film crew, Jasmine Yuen Carrucan. Kurrajong is a town in Australia; Jasmine Yuen Carrucan is Australian. She is editorial production assistant and second assistant camera.
I always thought Michael Parks never got the roles he should've gotten. I loved him in those 1960's biker films and that TV show, "Then Came Bronson". But it took Quentin Tarantino to pull out the best in him. "I wouldn't have shot you...I would've just...cut your face."
I always thought Michael Parks never got the roles he should've gotten. I loved him in those 1960's biker films and that TV show, "Then Came Bronson". But it took Quentin Tarantino to pull out the best in him.
God, this was, by far, the best line other that the "That's right. I killed your Master" scene between the Bride & Elle just because of that special line "I would have been much nicer. I would have just cut your face" & then you see that blonde. Priceless! Am I the only chick who fell in love with that leather jacket she's wearing? I've been searching for one like it since I first watched this. I think it's custom made. Look at the sleeves. She's got long arms & the sleeves go to her wrist!
another reason I blame the movie studio for breaking up an originally intended epic movie into 2! Parks' range coulda been on display even moreso as he also played the Sheriff at the post-massacre wedding chapel scene in part 1.
Great scene, great acting. However, there's a mistake that becomes immediately apparent to native Spanish speakers: Esteban is pronounced EsTEban, not EsteBAN. The accent is in the middle sillable, not the last. As the Bride is a native English speaker, her mistake is normal, but Esteban should have replied, "Only on the condition that you call me EsTEban..."
@dlangpap Yeah, I noticed it too. Maybe Tarantino wanted Esteban to be so cool, he pronounced his name completely different from the normal pronunciation. Or the actor himself, who is a native English speaker himself, didn't notice either. ;P
@dlangpap That's interesting to hear. Do Mexicans have an accent? In English there are many accents accross the globe. For example the English have certain accents according to class and we Americans have regional accents. Is it possible to tell where a Spanish speaking person comes from according to his accent?
@JessAtlas she must have either tried to screw him over somehow or she must have got an attitude and talked back to him or something. maybe she didn't satisfy a "customer". those are some of my guesses. hey, atleast she still has her life. she's just disfigured.
Uma looks incredible in this scene. it's one of my favorites of the whole Vol.1 and 2 movies. The dialog is great. Notice that Esteban's brandy snifter disappears from the table right before he orders dos anejos.
I could not believe it when i seen michael parks plays esteban and the sherrif who goes to the church where the wedding rehersal was, he did both so perfectly and sooooooo cool
