Most cats do that when they see some sort of prey they can't get to. My vet calls it "cackling"...I guess that's sorta what it sounds like. It's pretty funny though.

I used to have a cat that was friends with the dogs when my dogs barked. Zeus my Kitten would do this with them, he also had the body language of a dog lol. When he was weaned he started to follow my english shepards and hang with them. Thanks for sharing this brought good memories back of Zeus. :) - DNatureofDTrain

Hmm, I've heard cats make that kch, kch sound in their throats when they see birds, like they're making a hard c with a ch sound behind it, and it kind of rattles? But not like this. I've heard a kitty string one or two of those sounds this cat was making together, but not a whole series of them. This was very interesting and cute.
