the same goes for their V10. Dodge's Magnum 8.0L made 310hp and 450 ft/lbs. of torque whereas Ford's lower output 6.8L that was an option in the E-series vans made 305hp and 420 ft/lbs. of torque and the f-series with the three valve head makes 362hp and 457 ft/lbs. of torque
i never understood how dodge could make such a big engine and get such little power from it. in 1997, Dodge's Magnum 360 made 230hp when Ford's lowest output 4.6 made 210hp
@bykerboy223 well 91 dodge 360 (pre-magnum) was only rated at 205 hp and the 318 was only 175 hp and then they introduced the magnum series in 92 on the 318 which made 230 hp and 180 hp the 3.9 v6. The 360 didn't get the magnum treatment until 1993 with 245 hp kinda rose the bar in horsepower since the horsepower was rather stale on trucks at the time but torque and highest payload was and still is the name of the game.
the first generation viper v10 is all aluminum while the 94-02 ram v10 is cast iron. The v10 in those years were just the magnum 360 block with two extra cylinders added.
@1978mtb LMAO YEA SURE LET ME GO ADD 2 EXTRA CYLINDERS I HAVE LAYING AROUND AND PUT THEM ON MY 5.0 MUSTANG LMAO....... SURE THEY DID. THEY JUST GLUED THEM RIGHT ON.
The Viper V10 is based on the rest of the LA family, and appeared with the Dodge Viper in 1992. It was conceived and prototyped as a Magnum 5.9 with two extra cylinders and a longer stroke of 3.88 in (99 mm).
Chrysler engineers revamped Dodge's cast-iron block V10 for the Viper by recasting the block and heads in aluminium alloy. Do your homework silly person!!!!!!!

@bykerboy223 Yep that's right too! It was cheaper for chrylser to revamp an existing block design rather then to engineer a whole new design from scratch.
@belizetj ur funny lol the 8.0 v 10 is in vipers and magnum hell know ist a v8 u mongo 4.2l dont tell me diffrent lol i know my shit compare to u the guy that doesent no shit.
@Mrcastona Wut? I never said anything about it being a Viper motor. This is not even my truck. All i said to Montel750 was, "I know its the Magnum 8.0 v10. Idk if its the same motor used in the Viper." This is a 8.0 liter V10 magnum 4sp auto. If u put it on 480p full screen you can see the V10 logo right @ 0:13 .
@stanleytherat Obviously you're the dumb ass. The early vipers, First gen, had the 8.0 motor, thats why everyone thinks they are the same motors. You shouldn't make fun of people when you don't know what you're talking about either.
@belizetj no, it wasn't the viper engine, but they eventually race tuned it and modified it to be used in the viper, and it was. so the answer is no, not originally, but it WAS used in the viper after.
Not the same, exactly, the Viper V10 was based entirely off the Magnum V10. Essentials in the engine were changed, like materials. The V10 in the Viper put out about 400 HP, give or take, whereas the Magnum V10 in 2500/3500 put out about 310 HP, give or take.
@Montel750 The Viper motor was based off of this design, but Chrysler gave it to Lamborghini, who worked over everything on the motor to make it a good sportscar engine. Bigger cams, stronger internals, all-aluminum block and heads rather than the truck's cast iron, higher-flowing heads. The engines themselves are still very similar, but it's like comparing a 350 truck motor to an LS1; the little tweaks add up in a big way.
@dk552 Actually, the first-gen Viper motor was an 8.0, and it was developed from this truck motor. Chrysler sent it over to Lambo (who they owned at the time), and they put on new heads, higher-compression pistons and changed the whole thing over to aluminum with forged internals. The newer 8.3 and 8.4 (there was no 8.6) are more different, but the fact the Viper uses a V10 at all, rather than a V8, owes its existence to the Magnum V10, even though the Viper wound up coming out first.
@Montel750 it was originally the ram engine, but when chrystler owned lamborghini, dodge sent the truck engine to italy to be tuned and lightened so it could have the power but not the weight.
@Montel750 The easiest way to teel what v10 the truck has is by the truck itself. The older style like this one has the 8.0l v10, and the newer style has the 8.3l v10.
@Montel750 Well sort of... This V10 was what the vipers engine was made off of, as beliztj had said, its basically the origin of the vipers motor. Thats why if you ever hear covette douche bags saying "oh thats just a car with an old truck motor in it blah blah blah..." yes, you COULD say it is a truck motor but in reality that just proves how good the engineers at Chrysler actually are. They took an old 10 cyl. work truck engine and turned it into the monster we all call a viper. Mopar for life
@thebeegfoot yeah and if you ain't a mopar fanboy you could also admit that with the ford GT being a direct drop in motor from a lightning just saying.
@thebeegfoot Interestingly, the Viper application came before the truck version, 1992 debut vs 1994. If you want to go WAY back, they both derive from the original LA-block engine originally intended for the Valiant. Versions of the LA such as the 340 found their way into Challengers and such. So while they were truck motors by the '90s, they started as car motors competing directly with the small-block Chev. Corvettes, as we know, are just as guilty by using hot Suburban motors.
there goes 14 gallons of gas.

8.0 V-10 in a truck 94-02 was a cast iron block, lower h.p than the Aluminum version in the Viper !!
Only could get the 8.0 V-10 in a 1994-2002 Dodge 2500 or 3500 truck !!
The 8.3 L 505 c.i 2004-2006 Dodge Ram SRT trucks used the same engine as in the Viper,505 hp 525 torque ect..Aluminum engine...
Both are based off the old 318/360 engines that Chrysler used since the late 1960's !!

Ford V10 CP is something like 9.6.1 Dodge is 8.6.1 ... thats why Hp is less

@1978mtb the 360 peaked at 245 from 1998 an up, and the 318 decreased 10 horsepower but had an increase in torque after 1993

@prettyboyent707 you're a tool. Ford did the same thing to get their 6.8L V10, if you were to take 2 cylinders away from the 6.8 you would have a 5.4
