After hearing the studio version like "a million times"--it still amazes me that listening to Dan sing Crow live and solo--I dont feel like I'm missing a single ounce of quality!! Actually every song Dan did live was so full and just reeked with high quality performance!!!! Dan was such an excellent performer, such an excellent talent...miss him so very much... Thank Goodness we have these vids to watch over and over and over.......!!!!!!!
@ Traskblue, I guess we agree to disagree on this one. I don`t know about the "cool" factor, but, I stand by my original statement. Compare this man`s body of work against virtually any artist of our generation, and make your own decision. Personally, I think he is/was one of the VERY best of his time, period. I don`t think U-Tube hits ultimately decide who is good and who isn`t, but 9500 hits on this song speaks for itself. Really, pre-MTV, when the music was the music, nothing else.
One of the most under-appreciated singer-songwriter-musicians of all time, and the number of hits on this site proves it! Saw him in concert; absolutely fantastic! We will never forget you, Dan, your music will live on!
Was at the Tampa '82 concert... same tour... Never thought of recording it... Figured he would live forever. The reality of our demise slaps me in the face... Rest in deseved peace Dan...
I appreciate this more every time I hear it. It's right up there with the The River for pure gut wrenching emotion. The genius of this man is almost unfathomable.
So he lost the falsetto... but, boy, did his voice mature! We all lose aspects of the body as we grew older. The tone and richness of Dan's voice just got better and better. This post is a prime example.
I totally agree, JustPlainDB. I was at this actual concert in Houston and it was the first time I had ever heard him do it solo. Even watching it now, I still remember how he/the song seem to take you back in time - as if it was someone else from the 1800's singing the song. And his thumping of E (tuned to D) string...you don't really hear it here but it was a very prominate part of the song. Unfortunately - and you just hear him referencing it before the song, he had very little falsetto.
I'll have to pick that recording up again. I was really into him between 1972 and 78, but lost interest with his 1980 double. Heck, taste changes. Time changes and this tune is a good one!
Dan Fogelberg was just awesome in concert! It was about the music, not about the glitz that many performers used in their shows. To be present at two concerts that I attended, will be an experience that I will always cherish. You've gotta love Captured Angel!
This man and his acoustic guitar--magic!! Miss him still and always will.........

he and the guitar--all that's needed. I like it all and love him simple.

I saw him live with 500 other people.
He had a six string guitar, a twelve string guitar, and a baby grand piano.
He said that "This is what my music sounds like before it is runs thru all those machines."
Then he played and made everything sound GOLDEN!
He was the real thing.

Thank you, pre10der. You've done it again! And for a man with no falsetto, he still sang the hell out of this song! He was wonderful!
Miss you, Dan! God bless!

Fogelberg in concert had an stark honesty lying within the performance that propelled the recorded songs way beyond the sometimes overproduced mix.
