Once humans evolved thumbs and a moderate intelligence we could build our own weapons so those who looked most attractive matted most and not just those who were left after their enemies attacked. Also gills and wings are traits of birds and fish, people would have a better chance of growing a fully functional tail in one generation than growing gills or wings.

Also, we could have possibly already had gills and/or wings because we haven't scratched the surface of the Ocean. If we were still in need of H2O and not O2 we would still have those gills.

This is what people don't understand... we don't Evolve to "all" of our surroundings. Its the parts of it that we must Endure/Live with that makes us what we are.

Evolving to live better in those conditions... we're at the stage now where we are nearing the perfection (possibly?) of our Evolution.

Those fish that are least visible by predators live longer, and as a result they make more babies that have those same genes that make them less visible. After generation after generation of this process, they start to look like part of the plant they like to live on.
