well said....this is our continent and it is about time white america stop treating us like invaders and even have the nerve to call us aliens. I am by no means a racist. I don't hate white people...hell i have some european blood myself...but i just believe is about time WE the descendents of indigenous people from THIS- the american continent get some respect. We are not terrorists invaders or free-loaders.Help support a fair immigration reform b/c no human being should be treated as an alien

Just because I am white and proud of my people and my own background does not make me a racist. I do have friends who are native American. I live on the land that once was my local tribe's; yes, and I respect the land. My family came far after the damage was already done. Thanksgiving is the most horrible "holiday" in the world. Mexico did damage where I live with the missions. The natives should have more rights, yet sadly they hardly have any!

Europeans admire the "Aztecs".
The Mexica, Acolhua and Tepaneka were sophisticated American Indian civilizations. The famous Alexander Freiherr von Humboldt came from Germany to Anahuac ("North America") to study these ancient civilizations, BTW, Humboldt was the one who renamed the Mexicas and the other Natives as "Aztecs".
Many of this "explorers" new that these Natives were more advanced that any civilization in Europe, take that!

While I understand the point of your comment that we the Original Inhabitants of the "western hemisphere" are not Indians, let me add that Not even the citizents of "India" are Indians.
The name India was the given name of foreigner when they invaded that country, the local people call their country Bharat Varsha, the official name of their country.
Did you know Indian is the English name for that country?

Yes, but India is still based on a local concept. The Sindus River. Even though Bharat united all of subcontinent and it is also used as a name, It still is a local name. Wether the Greeks applied it to a larger region than the Indus River valley or not. But there was no such river in the Americas. Of course then you have the word Indigena, which has nothing to do with India and is related to Indu Genus. From in the location. Still Latin though.

The term India is incorrect.
The real name people Indigenous to that country use is Bharat.
Their ancient scripts mentioned the name Bharat, never "India".
There is no single script that the name of the country should be India, because some river.
The name Bharat goes back to more then 5 thousand years according to the "experts".

Indians accept both India and Bharat. Because north India was controlled by Greeks during Alexander and indeed the Greeks were long gone and the term Hindustan was still used. That was a choice in India. Not an imposition. Very different from America.

Wow! All this just because bluishgreene called us, the indigenous people of this continent, "Indians"! What we call ourselves DOES matter! That's why people so often fight about it---& with great passion! Surely, we should be able to get passed calling ourselves "Indians" , by now! We have nothing to do with India! But, I don't think there's a serious problem calling ourselves (Native) American when using English, just as Deutsch, Aleman & Alamanecatl are all acceptable to the Germans.
