  • @beatlestoneful secret agent man was not his rivers only wrote one fukin song that was his he basically could only sing well this is why he is not in r and r hall of fame dumbass

  • The video itself is fine. Howe

ver,it really strains your ears to hear it.

  • why this man is NOT in the Rock-nRoll Hall of Fame baffles me! NE 1 Agree?

  • @TheMustangsally75- it baffles me too!

  • @beatlestoneful rivers is a one hit wunder for he only had one song of his own that made it to number one

  • Poor side of town was a rivers original, the song memphis he stole from elvis presley who wrote the song and played it for rivers rivers turned around and recorded it ending there freinship

  • @dictator54 -the song "Memphis" was written by Chuck Berry not by Elvis!

  • @rwells47 i believe,[ could be wrong ] poor side of town was his only # 1 hit the rest were covers but i do agree he had a gift of singing i enjoyed most of the tunes he did cover i was merely pointing out that he only wrote one # 1 song

  • @dictator54 Secret agent man was his..and he stole nothing from Elvis!if the "king"was too stupid and didnt have his head up the azz of col.tom parker he would have released it himself!!

  • to have a #14 in 1967 is unbelieveable.Some many great bands in 67

  • my favorate version. hyponic tune

  • i love this song.

  • HAPPY 69TH BIRTHDAY JOHN

    rob

  • Awesome!

  • My point on the matter is to be inducted to R and R hall of fame yu have to have contributed to other striving artist's in which Rory did he was a great guitarist one of the best and he wasn't the type of guy to ignore people, he influenced a great deal of today's great guitarist on top of that he was truly one of the great bluesman rivers had a good voice what did he contribute other than one hit song i rest my case.

  • @dictator54 No , your case is NOT rested!! Rivers was a producer as well !the 5th dimention was on HIS label. His covers were much better then most originals and since when did you have to write your own stuff to be inducted to the HOF??how many Elvis songs were covers??Even the Beatles did covers that were hits!!

  • Indeed Johnny Rivers should be in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame....

I mean, Iggy Pop is there, but not Johnny? What kind of drugs are

    those people on?

  • @rwells47 i've bin listenin to music for 55 yrs now people like Rory Gallagher and such belong in Rand R hall of fame johnny rivers just didn't cut it like some of the true legends they have turned a blind eye to

  • johnie should perform in new york again.he has been touring

  • i love him. had a video once of the Bandstand 33 1/3 anniversary concert and there was a clip of him in there amongst others. such a brilliant voice.

  • Everytime I hear the line "The jukebox kept on playing Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" I say it would have been impossible to hear Sgt Pepper on a jukebox in 1967. Neither that song nor any other songs from that album were released as 45 RPM singles in 1967, which is what most 60's jukeboxes play. Howerver, "Sgt. Pepper" backed with "A Day In The Life" was released as a single in 1978, probably to compete with the Bee Gees Sgt Pepper movie of that year.

  • @tamspeci How pedantic is that?..do you know i have been in radio for 3 decades, have played the song many many times and never ever thought of that ...its called poetic license I reckon.Sgt Pepper was never realeased as a single, in this part of the world, which is a pity, mind you niether was Led Zeps Stairway to heaven,(I was the first radio presenter to play that in new zealand, I neeeded a long track for a toilet break, and stuck that song on, the phones went crazy.:)

  • @bidgeums I appreciate it's poetic license, I was just being technical. But it's not completely true Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin was never released as a single. It wasn't released commercially as a single, all right, but it was released a promotional single for radio stations. In one of my record collector books is a picture of the promo 45 single of Stairway To Heaven & it has all 8 minutes of the song.

  • I loved his music, still do

  • thanks for posting and sharing!

  • So cool.

  • Thanks for uploading this song. I was in college in the Philippines living in a small boarding house, this song keeps me going in hard times... Love the song so much

  • This song is absolute gold in my mind. I was a soldier in Vietnam at the time it came out and I used to sit in a bunker, close my eyes and imagine I was back home while listening to this song. The memories this song evokes are priceless.

  • @Jonny1341 Glad this song helped you through that time in your life, isn't it great how music can do that?. Thank you for your service to our country. God bless you.

  • well it's summer and it's raining so my first instinct was to come here and listen to this amazing song by Johnny Rivers. <3

  • Guys , YOU DON'T Know SQUAD , JOHNNY RIVERS HAS SOLD MOR HITS THAN ANY , Besides , His OWN INTERPRETATIONS PERFORCEMANCES , He Wrote SOME OF THE GREATEST HITS , BY : ERICK CLAPTON, PAUL McCartney , Smoky Robinson , " { JUST TOO MANY TO LIST, HERE } " CHECK-Out HIS BIO AT GOOGLE , and or WICKIPEDIA ! you are NUMBSKULLSSS , MEATHEADS , " DEAD FROM THE NECK, UP !!!! , Before You Post Anything CRITIQUECAL ON A PUBLIC FORUM " { DAMMN ! ! ! Dudes , EDUCATE YOURSELVES !!! , YOU COME THROUGH AS ASSES

  • Same comment as before...Iggy Pop is in the R&R hall of fame, and not Johnny Rivers? What kind of drugs are they doin?

  • @stuwrightfrom53- I agree- the R&R Hall has become a joke!

  • @stuwrightfrom53 Can you believe Iggy Pop is in the Rock and Roll of fame.He had one hit. That's why I like sports. The best team or player is the one that scores the most points.

otherwise,it comes to political correctness or international politics..

  • sometimes the covers are better than the originals, but yes, opinions are varied. J. rivers is a classic, like gene pitney.....

  • The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a mockery! Of course Johnny Rivers belongs in it. So do The Moody Blues, Carly Simon and others. They leave out deserving artists and put in people like George Clinton and Funkadelic, Mahalia Jackson, Bill Monroe. The list of those who should be in and aren't and those who are in but shouldn't be goes on and on. The RR Hall of Fame has no credibility!

  • Like? LOVE!!!!!!

  • I just read hat Johnny Rivers is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame- I always knew it was a joke, this confirms it. FUCK CLEVELAND

  • ft. polk louisiana - ...... 1967.....:=):=)

  • Such a smooth song.

  • What an amazing singer! Johnny Rivers ROCKS!

  • This song always makes me wish I was young and in love. :(

  • @dictator54- we are all entitled to our own opinion! I think Johnny Rivers SHOULD be in the Rock "n Roll Hall of Fame. He did have a lot of hits with cover versions that is true. He was a writer on "Poor Side of Town" which was his only #1 song. His cover versions (in my opinion) most of the time were as good or better than the original. He was one of the few American acts that still had hits during the British Invasion! I believe he made a significant impact on Rock music! Ron

  • @rwells47 Nicely put there Ron...I was 5 and my mom was young and would go see him @ the Whisky in 1964 and on. She would tell me how good he was. I grew up listening to Johnny and more. I went to work in the music biz in Hollywood and more. I saw a ton of bands and acts on the strip and arenas. Meet Johnny many times and he was one of the best acts out there. Played Guitar like a southern boy should..ha He is a top notch musician and artist. He is so underrated. His voice is golden.

  • @dictator54 don,t judge 40 year old real music by today,s techno /hiphop crap; record any of this sound pollution you call music today, with what j.r. and everybody else had to work with and it sound like a herd of chimps screamim n beatin garbage can lids.

  • @dictator54

    learn to spell dummy

  • @dictator54 Please refresh my memory. I can't remember which group or artist recorded Poor Side of Town & made it famous before Johnny stole it from them. And the cover songs he did do WERE better than most of the originals...or why else would he have sold so many of his albums? All I know is I grew up on & still love his music...& I think my sister still has a crush & never got over him. God bless & long live the great Johnny Rivers ! !

  • This song is way before my time but I love it...

  • love this <3

  • Johnny Rivers isn't in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame... Now we KNOW it's fixed...

  • @fab4fan4ever64- yes there is something wrong with the RRHOF when Johnny Rivers isn't in the Hall. Also Tommy James & The Shondells and Three Dog Night should be in there too! I think there is too much politics involved- especially when these acts are NOT in and Rap groups etc. ARE in. Ron

  • @rwells47 It's inexcusable when you consider he singing, composing, and producing. His impact has been very big and he should be in the HOF.

  • @willminkorea2010- I TOTALLY AGREE!!! Ron

  • @rwells47 --ditto that!

  • @rwells47 you can add laura nyro to that list, one of the greatest writers of the rock era ...........

  • @rwells47 Ditto!!! I grew up listening to Johnny and the rest of the bands you mentioned and can't believe they're not in the HOF. What a sham Madonna is in but not Tommy James OR 3 Dog Night.

  • @rwells47 You're absolutely right. Man this guy had nothing but talent & should be in the Hall of Fame. And excuse me but NO rap groups should have ever been inducted. They need a separate Rap Hall of Fame for them. Don't contaminate the true rockers like Chuck Berry, The Beatles, etc. with the rap crap ! !

  • @fab4fan4ever64 Sadly amazing isn't it !! Neil Diamond was finally inducted this year!!

  • @fab4fan4ever64

Neither is Paul Anka and Neil Sedaka both of whom wrote some of the best songs ever. It should be called the Hall Of SHAME! Members are voted in by some old nobodys.

  • som one commented that rivers sang with no soul, wat is this then i don't no wat it takes then, even thou he did a lot of covers i thought his wer better than original as far as soul goes he has plenty

  • @dictator54- I totally agree with you! Ron

  • By the way, this is tona mum that loves this song not him.

  • I just LOVE this song. It's SO BEAUTIFUL & JR has such a great voice.

  • HIS VERY BEST THANKS

  • @Bo618 - you are very welcome! Ron

  • A great song from Johnny Rivers!

They don't make songs like this anymore...Sadly.

  • This is one of my favorite songs from the 60s. In 1969 I was in Nha Trang, Vietnam sitting in a Club watching a Korean band play this song, hacking the H*** out of the lyrics, but they had the musical instruments right on... so me and about 100 fellow troops drank our military beer and watered down mixed drinks thinking of the day when we'd all be home... singing in the "Summer Rain" It was a fine day when I came home one week before the Woodstock Festival meeting my family at the airport.

  • Great classic song. Thanks for posting it.

  • @michaelfr613 - you are very welcome! Ron

  • Beautiful Johnny Rivers song.

  • This is my favorite Johnny song.

  • Just a few nights ago - between the last day of summer and the first day of fall - I rode my bike to the station for coffee - it was raining - The crowd in the station (a couple of WWII vets who almost live there, some young girls who also almost live there, and some other people who were just buying gas or groceries) were amazed to see a bicyclist in such weather. Everybody was offering me a ride home, but I explained that it was just a warm "Summer Rain" and they understood.

  • This song is righteous indeed, but listen to that drummer!

  • I remember music, and it used to sound just like this. I discovered it again! Thank God that we have an archive to leave to the future generations... because heaven knows they don't have a clue what real music is, or even an notion what ART is. Thank you for posting this.

  • I guess it's an old chord progession. Good song.

  • LOVE IT!!!

  • Loved it the first time I heard it and still do

    Top stuff

    real class

  • Great Memories, growing up in California , when it was the best place in the world to be!Great Sounds, Great Surf!

  • Thank you again for this vid.It takes me back to the summer of '67.Why can't they make music like this today?

  • @50marioD- you are welcome! Ron

  • @50marioD His music was wonderful! Manila Philippines

  • @50marioD JOHNNY RIVERS FOR MAYOR OF NYC & Jesus as King and the Son of Cesar of Rome as USA's President! God Bless Philippine Rum and our Brandy

  • @50marioD This music came out of the hippie generation. The baby boomer generation is now 60+ and their music has faded. Today's music is the music of generation X and Y. Very different indeed!

  • @thespiritof1972 I turned 58 and still and always will groove to the 60's partner........you can't miss.......

  • I LOVE this song!!!!!!!! Let tomorrow be!!! Thanks for sharing Ron.

  • One of my all-time favorites! Enjoy, my Friends!

  • NICE!

  • This song was written by a great friend of mine, Jim Hendricks, who started out with The Big Three and the Mugwumps, the group that later became the Mamas and Papas. Jim is a recording artist living in Nashville and one of the finest gentlemen I've ever known.

  • One of the prettiest songs ever recorded. Right from the intro...it takes me away.

  • Great song. Thanks very much for posting it.

  • @michaelfr613- you are welcome Michael! Ron
