  • Theo, you will live on. Dont worry about that.

Your mechanical visions are wonderful by the way.

  • if he could find some way to put solar cells onto them he could make them completely autonomous. very impressive!

  • I wonder if bamboo would work.

  • Dutch saying: "From the wind, you can not live."

  • this guy is a prototype of god

  • inspired !

  • Cool

  • wow!!!!

  • did anyone here see this in Melbourne 2 days ago?

  • Incredible!!!

  • saw this 'animal' at melbourne at federation square

    it is amazing.

  • Brilliant... How does he do it?

  • すごい!

  • Man, I can imagine these things being the only remnants of humanity left on the planet after we've all gone extinct. Like, aliens show up and discover our ruined buildings and broken electronics and these things, scuttling on aimlessly.

  • So involve in his invention he is forgetting to cover his head from the sun and is wearing a jacket and shoes out of place for the beach. Hopefully no skin cancer. Great invention.

  • Genius...

  • 2:20 "Knowing that i'll live on for the bitches" I lul'd ^^

  • our creator? You don't recognize your mom and dad?? you appreciative ignorant fucks

  • Our creator didn't face any problems creating us. Good designs though Wallace!

  • THE LEGS. OH GOD. THE LEGS

  • @SpiritRevised If you "like" the legs, maybe you will enjoy the music video to Herbie Hancock's "Rockit", remember this was the time of breakdancing !

    watch?v=JicmU_MtOjE&feature=related

  • our creater didnt face any problems creating us

  • qué pasa en el minuto 1:30?

  • i could definitely see a theme park themed after this..:)

  • This world didn't have a fucking creator.

    Amazing kinetic sculptures tho.

  • Wow! Amazing !!!))

  • Those creations look at Theo Jansen as their god. They pray to him every day

  • very impessive

  • I want to see one of the animals mate with a 'beach bitch' while Theo gives a lecture on it's mating behaviour and evolution.

  • for all that people down there be quiet and enjoy , life isn't about conceptualizing everything .

nobody can deny the beauty of creation here , and for all those talking about life , try to define

god in a objetive way and you'll be entering the most complex concept in history .

  • Damn wind swept Dutch bitches!

  • brilliant

  • new forms of life indeed

  • I think Theo's life and future ambitions would make a great Spike Jonze movie starring John Malkovich. Anyone agree?

  • Wow, it's amazing how intricate those designs are! I wonder how long it takes him just to make one! They're really cool, the way the scuttle around, they almost do look alive XD

  • He might be an incredible engineer and artist but he has no idea of how complex life is or what actually constitutes life or he would not call his creations life. Nobody said he was a moron (tuysty91, I'm looking at you) but he clearly has the outlook on life that is more associated with artists rather than scientists. Proud of his work, and rightly so.

  • @tuschman168 You really believe that the man has no idea of how complex life is? He is taking license with the word, certainly, but not because of ignorance of the meaning. I could say that the hiring of a creative mind to a firm gave new life to an old project, without actually believing that the old project has actually come alive.

  • @A0220R Sure. I, being a scientist, am just a little wary about using the word "life" in context of things that could, on a superficial level, actually be mistaken for life. I think I just heard the words "Science could never understand the mystery of life" a few times to often to not raise an eyebrow when someone literally says: "I make new forms of life" and then shows us a contraption (amazing as it may be) without indication, that he meant it figuratively. The narrator doesn't help.

  • You must be an idiot or unproductive, jealous scientist to dislike this video...

  • at first I was like wtf with this shit and then I was like wooow!! loos beautiful

  • @Baraquiel62 And now that we know what you were like in a sequence of moments, the world has been enriched. jk ;-)

  • @tuschman168 omg lol! great thinking by the way (=

  • "Creator"? Doesn't he reallize that his kinetic sculptures are one of the best examples that life is made up of very simple structures and therefore don't need intelligence?

It's unlikely that his models can be assembled by themselves but if you scalle them down to molecular size they can be formed by laws of chemistry.

No design, no designer. Just Random awesomeness.

  • @ihr0ppa well it looks like you've got it all figured out, unlike that hack up there who is clearly a moron

  • POW dutch rules!

  • you have a loose foot on the machine.better fix that

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT THING

  • I hope when the time comes that he eventually dies, someone would continue his work. These things are incredible. Just think of how further this research/engineering would advance and what kind of more complex and intricate "creatures" this would make.

  • hypnotic

  • This is totally cool. I admire the engineering skills involved in Theo's work.

    Thanks!

  • Play with geometry & neodyme magnets dude...

  • The dude that built this stuff must be on weed or something.

  • @bblaufuss

Obviously you've never smoked weed before...

  • for what do you need it?

  • That's what you get when you legalize weed, illigelazied it just caused crime.

  • Uh?............ ok

  • A beautiful melding of science and art.

  • What the hell is poetadelas400voces talking about?

  • Vgirlification you talk like a critic. You are a critic The guy of this video is a maker, that's the difference. You're wrong. His creation could have so many applications with imagination, you think that big things don't have a process. The structure of this strandbeest is magnificent, is a process of something great, that someday will exist. But don't know that because you are critic and don't know the difficults of make something of engineerings or arts.

  • Um, Wow. What a mind

  • beautiful creation

  • That poor bastard needs to find something to do.

  • LOL

  • that thing needs a torque converter

  • I could see these designs exploring the planet Mars using only wind power.

  • tuyet...

  • i just found god

  • Beautiful, these sculptures are not direct functional, but indirect they are, we can learn from it! Use windpower and Pvc! :)

  • I love how they refer to them as living. Beautiful.

  • hmmmmmmmmmm

  • this idiot talks as if he thinks these sticks are alive.

  • @p52xtra idiot? superior engineer

  • @Vgirlification Yes, he is a good engineer, but he acts as if they are alive just because they move. A pinwheel moves in the wind also, but it is not an animal.

  • @p52xtra uh, a three min interview is not an adequate amount of time on which to judge whether or not this man is an 'idiot'. THAT'S what i am talking about, you however are not.

  • @Vgirlification it is idiotic to act like sticks have life. The man is obviously smart, but smart people sometimes have weird thoughts and beliefs

  • @p52xtra u my friend, have zero soul and/or imagination. how sad for you. try it sometime, you might find a temporary escape from the lies of this world culture.....

  • @Vgirlification I have plenty of soul, but I am a realist, I believe in logic. His creation will never spawn babies.

  • @p52xtra i cant believe you think that theyre sticks?

  • Well you know what they say, "If it ain't Dutch, it ain't much"

  • Dumpert+1

  • Amazingly beautiful! Incredible how they move...with such precision and articulation...I think it is truly a magnificent invention and a beautiful art work.

  • UNBELIEVABLE, VERY FUNNY, BRILLIANT INVENTION

  • 2:23 he confesses he can die quietly know that he can live on for the bitches.

  • Gotta live on for the bitches!

  • Leonardo da Vinci of our time

  • @b0rg69

No one with an IQ higher than room temperature would put these toys on the level of da Vinci

  • @hockeytruth True, this Probably goes a little beyond Da Vinci.

  • @b0rg69 Leonardo Da Vinci had hundreds of technologically revolutionary ideas and designs all which have been proved to work and many which changed the face of industries. This guy makes sand dwelling machines from PVC.

  • Hey I would recommend you consider traveling with your creatures to BURNING MAN and have them roam the SALT FLATS. It would be a great addition to the festival and Im sure they would do great out there. YOU HAVE AN AMAZING MIND :)

  • WELL THAT'S ONE WAY TO LEAVE YOUR LEGACY WELL PLAYED SIR

  • Cool art. But stop referring to them as life.

  • i love great design :)

  • A big "thump" was heard from my jaw hitting the floor...

  • Wow. Fucking amazing...

  • "I could die quietly knowing that I will live on for the bitches."

  • @EternalCheese It doesn't matter in terms of salvation how good a person is or what they do if they haven't accepted Jesus Christ. They're still punished for all eternity. What you describe is exactly true, religion isn't about God, it's about Man. Faith in Christ has very little to do with religion. There's only one positive reference to the word religion in the bible, to care for widows and orphans. Only a saving relationship with Christ matters and those hate filled people don't have that.

  • what is the song in the background?

  • @fishslappedface Do you mean the song towards the end? That's from "The fear" by Lilly Allen...

  • @EternalCheese Thank you for your thoughtful and respectful reply. If you're watching the news, you can clearly see the moral code of the secular world. You went to an extreme I never intended in acting carnal. There are many "good" people on earth that are not Christians. There might be more "bad" people that claim the name of Christ but don't embody the teachings of Christ in their day to day life. The difference is, it won't matter how good anyone is, if they haven't accepted Jesus Christ.

  • Very interesting construct, however referring to them as if they are "living creatures" is ridiculous.

  • It's all plastic but it looks very organic. It's some kind of post industrial design.

  • Wonderful

  • What a wonderful video, I've had it for about a year now and watch it sparingly. Maxis@1 should just go to hell!!! Leave Jesus alone and burn quickly...PLEASE!!!

  • "then i could die quietly knowing that i will live on for the bitches on the beaches" LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • It is pure mechanics. calling them animals or new form of life doesn't seem apt word.

  • 42 People which dislike this video should be imidiately send for mental examination ... !!!

  • If I use a German Techno Dance tunes as the sound track from Shoutcast, these Janson vids seem more up / fun.

  • I Love it!

  • Would be quite surreal to walk upon one of these creations on a quiet, bright and beautiful day on the beach. Would love to spend a day on the sand watching Jansen service his machine, trying to figure out exactly how they operate but never really fully understanding, which keeps me wanting to go back the next day.

  • Awesome!

  • Yes PVC plastic will outlive us all on all the world's beaches.

  • Are there any schematics or blue prints for these?

  • This is remarkable. I love it. Am fascinated by the 'smooth steps' of these animals; what a gifted man, to conceive THESE. It's absolutely beautiful. I could look at this for ages.

  • his so-called "creation" and all this fuss around it.

  • This is fucking AMAZING!

  • better go and find a cancer treatment. So that HUMANS wouldn' t be dying!!!! This is pathetic!!!!

  • @natalia9316 What is so pathetic about this?

  • @natalia9316 shouldn't you be spending your time doing medical research rather than watching and commenting on youtube then?

  • @Piatasify This is what I , actually, do. Got a link from a friend... wrote my thoughts. And surprised at how many people reply to the comments! Go, and occupy Wall Street, make some change. I just got back from there, by the way.

  • @natalia9316 ... good 4 u ... bye bye

  • @natalia9316 Make a change? By doing what exactly? If you wanted to have a positive effect on the economic situation you should have studied economics and worked hard to improve the system before what it is now. Occupying wallstreet is not exactly constructive, is it? And when I say "work hard", that means every day, possibly without effect. Like those people working on a cure for cancer are doing.

  • jeezzzz....i mean, seriously????

  • That's absolutely bloody amazing...

  • They should give this guy a government grant to make robots!

  • This man is like a modern Leonardo DaVinci!

  • hidden gem!

  • Oh fuck you with Tokio Hotel, I brought myself here.

  • @Blackhole519 what is the Tokio Hotel? is it in Tokyo? 0.o I'd like to go sometime

  • Wow this is incredible...this was a really nice surprise video for my day!

  • Makes me appreciate the genius of Our Creator and all of the millions of species in our world. Praise the Lord!

  • @sadiemagillicutty Makes me appreciate human ingenuity, people like you make me ashamed to be human.

  • @Maxid1 YAWN, spare the sob story please.

  • @Maxid1 says you and now that you've had your say make way for some one else to share

  • @willrobm It's not me that says it. I'm only repeating what's in the bible.

  • @Maxid1 Troll ... no original thoughts of your own ... but condescending enough to insinuate yourself and your biblical dogma... your like a desease ...

  • @willrobm It's not my opinion but God's word. I'm not allowed, by Gods word, to add to or detract from the word of God. You can be freed of the continual anger that you feel toward people. The emptiness you have inside of you that causes you to abuse others in order to make yourself feel superior. All you have to do is confess your sins and accept Jesus as your savior. You're a slave to your anger and bitterness. You know Jesus is real, that's why you argue so abusively. If HE didn't, why argue?

  • @Maxid1 there is no arguement here on my part ... It appears that underneath that mello, hollier than thou demeanor, you're just a bit thin skinned, still in the interest of brotherhood and human human kindness I'll try to be nicer if you try to be smarter ...

  • @willrobm You being nicer to people won't save you from the punishment of rejecting God. You can't do anything significant to change yourself outside of the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ. You'll continue to revert to your carnal nature as long as you deny Jesus Christ. That being said, I know it doesn't mean anything to you. And that's where I hope to become smarter, in revealing God's sacrifice through Jesus Christ to those who perish. There is only one difference between us and that is sin.

  • @Maxiid1 ... wow you scare easy ... going of the deep end flirting with abstraction, vague innuendo, demonizing and the old favorite of hollier than thou cowards; the big dichotomy ... laughable and boring ...

  • @willrobm How are you doing on being nicer to people?

  • @Maxid1 ... Pray tell us ... what is your sin ..? being born or being born again ?

  • @willrobm It's the same as your sin. Being born in sin.Being born again doesn't keep me from being sinful, but excuses my past sin. Evidence of being saved is rejecting sin and resisting temptation. You continually do things you know are wrong, but you do them because you don't think there is any consequence. There is a consequence for all your actions. Here and in eternity.

  • @Maxid1... I see where you've been edited out for prosetylizing on you tube and now you've sent 3 reply's in one day ... desperately driven ... obsessed much ... wwjd ...

  • @willrobm I don't see where I've been edited but I expect as much. Don't you think it's unfair that you can make just about any vulgar comment you want but an opinion about God gets censored? I don't have to wonder what Jesus would do, I can just open the bible and it says what He did when opposed, He continued to preach. My question to you is, what if you're wrong about God? There's no negative consequence to me living my life for Jesus, but if you're wrong, you're punished for all eternity.

  • @Maxid1I haven't read where there's a negative consequence to your living your life for jesus ... It's your right ... Varying points of view is all that i've read here ... vaya con dios ...

  • @willrobm Acts 26:18 "To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.

  • @Maxid1 now your reading from some rewritten gobblydeegook from way back in time ... what's next ... talking tongues?

  • @Maxid1 yes and the planet has only been inhabited for 6,000 years. Its a book. And it's the sequel, not even the original

  • @TheEverwonder The new testament is the fulfillment of the old testament. There's a very good secular book called The Great Disruption:Why the climate crisis will bring on the end of shopping. by Paul Gilding. The author is an evolutionist but the science in the book is very accurate. I don't believe in evolution but I do believe that accurate pure science validates the word of God. Yes, the bible is just a book, it's written on paper and printed in ink like any other book, but the words are God.

  • Will Smith watch out! The Robots are coming, no you're not crazy.

  • Thumbs up if Professor Hall brought you here.

  • Thank goodness for the internet or we wouldn't see half the stuff we see that is happening all over the world! They don't show this kind of wonderful stuff on the news!!

  • @tooteyfrootey That's because the news are no longer news, they're advertising.

  • OH MY GOD! am I the only one who thinks it is creepy?!

  • @tangloppe94 Your not alone. I find this creepy as well. Like a horror movie. Robots controlling the world.

The white dog is cute. :)

  • @tangloppe94 makes two of us!!!! it is too wrong...

  • Howl's Moving Castle!

  • @mabmao2 I'm glad I'm not the only one who made this connection.

  • Oh brother.

  • These remind me of something in a Terry Gilliam film. Paint it black with red fabric for the wings, have it walking by in a smoky, post apocalyptic city shot. Better yet, build a robot with this model, put a chip in so it can learn, then it would be almost a form of life.

  • He Gave Them Wings...❤ :)

  • 2:23 "knowing that I will live on for the beaches...and the bitches." lol

  • Why. One storm and this becomes nonbiodagradable trash on beach, not life in any way,

  • They are incredible mechanical objects, but they are not, in any way, life.

  • facebook brought me here? i know i wont get no thumbs ups :(

  • @tomeortoyou Well, I came here from Facebook too, but since you're sulking about the thumbs up, I won't give you one. I would have given one otherwise. Why is it important to archive where you came from and then get thumbs up for it? Can't you just be satisfied knowing that you enjoyed the video?
