@futuresuperstar4life Ann Reinking. Broadway legend, both performing and choreographing but she was in some films though. None by Disney that I know of, but she was most notably seen in Annie and All That Jazz.
@futuresuperstar4life Besides what others have already cited, Ann Reinking was also in a really fun movie from the '80s called MOVIE MOVIE, as well as in MICKI AND MAUDE, with Dudley Moore.
@chelseaguy52 I suppose its a matter of personal taste. Naturally there would be more stuff added to the routine if it had been done today. But Both the costumes and choreo were very cute and fun for their time.
I love how each of them has their own style... Ann Reinking is all smokey and sultrey, Donna McKechnie is out and out Broadway and then Chita is just perfection!
OMG IS THAT THE WOMAN(the first one the big balck fur coat) FROM THE MOVIE ANNIE!?!?? u know the one that took care of her when she got to daddy warbucks place
Man I don't think people know how to do anymore what these ladies did here so effortlessly. And the effortlessness is key. A standard like gypsy is so in their bones, that they can play around with the musical, capture the spirit of it in a fun number, and show off three very different, and complimentary styles of dance. Just pure talent...so dearly missed on Broadway nowadays.
It's obvious the gowns were under there the whole time. They were all at one point or another holding things up, making sure things didn't fall out. And when Ann dances by at one point, you can see the shiny section of her underdress coming through. And exactly what kind of TV magic would you be expecting in 1987?
I love this performance as well! I do musical the theatre and agree with stagecraft101 that there is an obvious edit for the gown change at the end. For instance, Donna McKechnie is wearing a two-piece outfit and then suddenly is in a full length gown. Also the stage, which seconds earlier was adorned with the lovely feathers from Chita's dress, is now completely clean.
Fantastic performance from 3 fantastic ladies--all of whom have inspired me as a musical theatre performer :)
if you watch ann takes off an her redish orange glove. when they change she has on TWO purple gloves on.. and rightbefore the change the lady on the right her "cape" doesnt cover her right shoulder when when they cut to the change both shoulders are covered :) i still liked it

There looks like a little bit of TV magic ( edit) helped with the gown change.
I do theatre and it is a litle hard to beleave that that change happend in under 1 sec.
But a great performace.

I like the segue from "Let me entertain you to "gotta get a gimmick" and then back for the finale.
