  • I love this. The harmonies for this era with these two were really good. "Crazy Ladies" is a great new song from this era too.

  • I've heard about 6 different versions of this great song-all great-but this one, with Gene and Jim(I'll never call him roger-old school) is incredible.

  • Love this but it's hard to compare to the original! Great job dad!!!

  • @Kaiclarkmusic your dad was really cool. I told him so as he left the stage and I opened my heart on the way to the bathroom at the Texas Opry House in Houston one night before 1980. That's the best I can do. How could I not tell him that he was my all time favorite male vocalist? And he still is, make him proud dude.

  • Was looking for the Ego's version and stumbled across this. Very cool. Although I always new him as one of the Byrds in the flock. I am now starting to really appreciate this gone too soon talent and the work he left us. RIP GENE:-(

  • Gene and Roger together sound so good! There was no one like Gene Clark. He wrote from his heart and soul! Thanks for posting!

  • Wonderful

  • wow.. less Roger in the vocals please...

  • mcguinn and crosby did resent not so much gene's talent at writing but the record company wanting so many of them. they resented the money he was making to what they were making. the contract called for mcguinn to sing lead on all dylan and pete seger songs. and when crosby started writing too as well as sing lead the fight for space on albums got intense.this was well before record companies had the concept of double album packages.much blame belongs to the companies for friction in groups.

  • This could have been a killer Byrds song... But then, McGuinn & Crosby always did everything they could to put Geno's songs off the Byrds records, and if Geno stayed with them we would never had Gene's first solo or Fantastic Expedition...

  • These are 2 heavyweights at their best..........performing as a duo.

  • Lucky enough to have caught them in Toronto on Gene's birthday. I night I will never forget.

  • for me it has always been the three B's. beatles, beach boys, and byrds. it will never change. love these guys in whatever combo or solo they come in!

  • Thumbes up i you love KANYE WEST!

  • I've listened 3 times straight, and bad as I hate to say it, McGuinn's harmony becomes increasingly annoying with each play. Even so, even he can't totally mess up this great song, done best by Dillard and Clark, IMO.

  • I've only ever heard the Clark/Dillard version so it was a thrill to discover this gem. Love the 12 string effects from McGuinn. RIP Geno

  • love anything with these two guys on it, but the eagles' version -- love 'em or hate 'em -- is better.

  • Strong memories of how splendid the original line-up of the Byrds gained such an international following. Gene was a gifted song writer who added immeasurably to the richness of the Byrds sound. The folk-rock scene was such an imaginative melding of two different styles, just as the later melding of rock and country. If you listen to the "Preflyte" sessions, you can easily understand Gene Clark's incredible value as songwriter, singer and performer. A Hall-of-Fame recipient, and a legend!

  • I love McGuinn, but I totally fell for the version with Dillard.

  • a shame there's no footage any, because it's one of the greatest Bernie Leadon's songs besides his tribute to Gram Parsons "My Man". thanks a lot for posting.

  • It's not exactly fair to call this a Bernie Leadon song, as his contribution was limited to a chord change. This song was almost entirely Gene Clark's.

  • I like this song. Some things should stayed paired. McGuinn and Clark was one of them.

  • Truth be known-Roger says Gene wrote it with Bernie Leadon. Gene wrote it and was classy enough to give Bernie a word or two to get a credit.

  • Gene is so underrated. It makes me want to cry.

  • So true, Wisegeorge, way underrated. What a great performance this is, eh?

  • Gene owns this Dillard and Clark original...

  • For what it's worth, this ancient fan wants to briefly say, this is, by far, my favorite Eagles song, and Roger does know a thing or two about harmony, it would appear (obvious, but worth the telling) !

  • I love this song and what a great rendition they do.

  • You Bulbhead, we keep crossing paths because we know what the hell we are talking about. Jan, you are so cool, I love you my YouTube girl. I wish Obama was my mama because he's earned a place in my life as well. Keep being cool girl, I know you will. Can you dig it?

  • Definitely, George, I love bumping into you at these great vids, and they always are great vids if we both love 'em.

  • Those two guys are great!!

  • The exact date of this one is march 1978, not 19-10-1977.

In late 1977 their concerts were acoustic (I own about a dozen of them).

  • One of his best and McGuinn's harmony does it justice. Not so sure about the way Gene declaims but a great post, anyway. TYVM.

  • FYI, this is from March 1978.

  • It sounds like they're playing it this way:

    D-C-A-D (x2) Bm-E (x2) D-C-A-D

Which seems like it might be a little different than some of the other versions out there. I like this one. Very nice, thanks for posting.

  • nice hear this ty for posting

  • No tellin' what he was on, of course.

  • Thank you, this is great!!!

  • It won't play for me. Just hangs
