  • Anyone who has ever gone fishing can easily change their own guitar strings! This is a wonderful tutorial! Thanks!

  • The tuning on my guitar keeps on changing after I installed a new set of nylon strings. When I put my capo and take it off, the tune changes. Even when I play it without capo. What should I do???

  • Completely lost at 2:45 - 3:00.

  • Thank you for posting this, t'helped me out greatly!

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • sounds like that guy from "but will it blend?"

  • This video is the most helpful video on changing Nylon Strings that I have found. Thanks for the post!

  • thanks a lot. i really appreciate what you're doing.

  • guiTAHRRR

  • maybe is should have checked out this video before i went ahead and snapped my string

  • "man handle it a little bit, or woman handle it a little bit". - non sexist teaching done right.

  • very good

  • Omg this guy sounds exactly like freaking Bob Barker holy sh*t. I want him to scream. COME ON DOWN!!!!!!

  • I have a normal steel string acoustic guitar that i have not played for a few years but want to get back into:

I need to chnage the strings but i found a pack of Nylon Classical Guitar strings that i bought a few years ago and never used, can i use those on a normal acoustic? Because my machine-heads and bridge dont look anything like those in this video so i'm guessing not?

    Thanks.

  • @ZuluSmasher steel string acoustics have bridge pins that need strings with a steel ball end to lock it in place. It really isn't worth spending hours attempting to improvise with open ended nylons. Just buy some new strings for the guitar you have. Regards

  • @ZuluSmasher You could go out and search for nylon strings with ball ends

  • i would also like to add that nylon string guitars sound awesome. so now i want one.

  • im glad i play a steel string acoustic. this looks like a pain in the butt.

  • Can i put steel strings on this kind of a guitar ?

  • @GameOnStudious No, a classical guitar is not built like a steel string guitar therefore cannot withstand the higher tension of steel strings.

  • Use a peg winder, those "Machines, won't move very slow."

  • Thank you, it really helped me out! Blessings!

  • Thank you, it realy helped me out! Blessings!

  • The part where he actually starts stringing the guitar is 1:19 (please give this thumbs up if you think that it will help people).

  • wow, My technique is way different, I don't put the string back through the little hole on the headstock and I never "TIE" the strings, I was taught to do, one loop at the base and overlap the strings from the 6th to the 1st. This will make each string secured by the previous string on the guitar. Interesting...

  • @ccctripodccc having the strings touching each other is no good idea, friction may result in strings snapping

  • I've done many guitars, but have my first time I have myself faced with a 40 year old Yamaha Classic. I've built my own guitars, ( electric) But from a Luthier's point of view I have never stringed a classical guitar, (can you believe that? check out "Riding the storm out shadow cover 1980)

Thanx for the lesson, defintely 4-stars, after 30 years of stringing, tweaking, and adjusting, I never thought to ask this lesson, Kudo's Mi Amigo..........

    Thanx....>:)

  • i used steel strings on my classical guitar, and it ripped off my bridge while tuning.

  • @malefera only certain guitars are intended for steel strings! The reason lies in the neck of the guitar...steel string guitars have necks reinforced with a "truss rod"...a big cylinder rod (like rebar in construction) that runs from end to end on the inside of the neck, generally only able to be seen at the underside of the end of the fretboard and at the headstock. The tension of steel strings will rip apart a guitar that does not have a truss rod.

  • "Cuz if you do, you'll be out of tune... ALL NIGHT."

2nd best catchphrase on a guitar video.

No. 1 is Batio's "I'm going to give you the keys to the Lamborghini".

  • i have three black nylon strings and three white ones...so should i put the white ones first and the black ones last or do it by their sizes because i did it by sizes and it sounds really horrible and i cant get it to be tuned!!!!

  • is it okay is i stretch my ukelele strings the way he did it? cos' mine sis outta tune

  • Thank you for an EXCELLENT tutorial Sacrouge

  • Thank you so much

  • The string shown is one of the easiest.

The three strings shown already installed are the difficult ones. Done wrong it can damage the guitar when the string comes loose at the bridge.

  • "and then just man handle it a little...or woman handle it. "lol. good vid. =)

  • haha woman-handle it xD

  • can any type of acoustic guitar use nylon string?

  • @c00lb0y10 yes

  • @chadro85

    no !

how do get nylon string on a steelstring or an e guitar ?

they have a completly differrent hardware than a nylon guitar ....

  • @AllRockable i see my freind do it, he just puts the steel strings on the same way you would put on a nylon string. works just fine (when he bought it, it had nylon strings)

  • @chadro85

but a steel string cant really be stringed with nylon strings...

  • @c00lb0y10 well, as you saw in the video, it uses a loop to anchor itself to the bridge (the string i mean). the same method might work for an acoustic guitar. but you have to remember, nylon string guitars tend to be much shorter than ordinary acoustic ones. one could give it a go though...

  • I have my first ever nylon string guitar coming. I've been playing on and working on my guitars for years - just never did nylon. Your video is the first one to recommend that the windings go to the outside for straight string pull. In fact there are videos by string manufacturers that ignore that and have a heck of a sideways break angle at the nut. Thanks for the correct info and the help. I'm ready for my first Godin nylon.

    Big Ron

  • thanks for this guitaaaur video :)

  • how do you do it if the string has the ball on the end of it ?

  • @LKB90 lol man this is a classic guitar that means it use nylon strings and they never have ball ends, ball ends are to guitars that use same strings as electricc guitars

  • @Martykrik001 you're wrong, there are classic nylon strings such as the DADDARIO EJ34 (which I use) that have a ball end.

  • @MrAmivienna

    I had those strings too.

  • @Martykrik001 lol man the guy on the vid just said some have ball ends.

  • @LKB90 those are for acoustic guitars

  • @LKB90 then you dont have to tie it at the bridge, the ball will keep it in place

  • Great vid! Just received a 1978 mexican classical guitar from my auntie and uncle so needed some help!

  • This is the best explanation for stringing a classical guitar that I've seen on YouTube.

  • Great tutorial! Thanks heaps!

  • the best "How to String a Nylon-String guitar" video on youtube

  • very nice video. Never had a classical guitar, so this helped with the restringing.

  • "Guitaaur".

  • wrong method..

  • I decided to use nylons for a more mellow sound on my Strat but not only did they go out of tune when I used the wah-bar but nobody could hear a thing. I took the strings back but the guy in the shop sent me packing saying I was a freakin idiot. I think I must have looped the short section badly.

  • @malarbusto haha that made me laugh

  • @malarbusto, electric guitar require steel strings or else the pick ups have nothing to pick up

  • @malarbusto u are an idiot

  • @malarbusto you are an idiot

  • @malarbusto Yea that must have been it, you looped the short section badly. ಠ_ಠ

  • @malarbusto Umm How can u possibly put nylon strings on a Strat or any electric guitar?

  • do you think you need to spend all this time telling people to remove the old strings ????

  • this is bull, i can't even see what the hell is going on when he ties the string at the top

  • @gameboyja it looks like you just do the same thing you do at the bottom

  • 12 people had an allergic reaction to nylon strings.

  • You forgot to mention that the second loop (of the short end) should be behind the corner of the bridge, so it doesn't slip.

  • You forgot to mention that the second loop (of the short end) should be behind the corner of the bridge, so it doesn't slip. It's kind of important.

  • When I heard you speak, I kept on thinking of Cleveland from Family Guy. but either way good video!

  • @TheLocalDJ ITS CLEVELAAAAAAAAD hahahahahahaha

  • You should have zoomed the camera in closer when you were tying the knots up top, really hard to see, hope I got it right...

  • why don't they show us on of the bottom clear stings ? they are so frikin annoying if you get it wrong

  • Thanks for this clip.... you helped me out a great deal. Saved me £25.00 too. I am happily strumming my guitar now!

  • Super helpful! I just bought a nylon string guitar, and if it wasn't for this video, I'm sure I would have broken some strings. Thank you!

  • Great vid, thanks heaps.

  • Really good vid. I just have one question:

When I´m tuning my guitar the string makes a cracking sound, is that normal?

  • i use steel strings

  • @Hellblazer344 On your classical guitar? Well thats wrong.....

  • @Hellblazer344 just make sure your not using a guitar rated for nylon strings, using steel strings on a nylon string guitar would warp the neck beyond repair in a matter of days.

  • That's all fine and dandy, but how do you do the rest of the strings???

  • @TheUnlord666 Same way

  • @CGM350 That was complete sarcasm, but I can see now how it could be taken seriously after reading some of the other retarded comments. Good vid. My buddy had just bought a nylon string and this was really helpful.

  • Very very helpful, Thanks :D

  • Thanks !! this video helped me a lot ! =)

  • Freaking hard! D:

  • Please forgive me, however I wanted to bring up that you didn't mention how 5,4,3, & 2 strings need to be wound up on the inside rather than the outside of the post. The the high E is then wound towards the outside again. Good string stretching technique. Thank you for showing it.

  • best tutorial so far!

  • help help i have a question which no matter how i search i find no answer, i ave a guitar an old one, and while in another country i got a cable from the guitar to my amp but the head phone inlet on the guitar is not headphone inlet but a large round laptop tv out socket looking inlet socket, wat is it called so I know what to buy, i live in a country where music shops are far apart so asking is hard to do,

    please help

  • hi, a quick thanks from me as well!

  • helpful, but rubbish tutorial. and it's supposed to be for dummies... pfft

  • @TheDeathGit Helpful comment but rubbish

  • Thank you for this. ;) Well done!

  • you lost me on'' under that short section''??

  • Hello, i recently bought, Steel Strings (Special for Nylon Guitars) for my Nylon Stringed classical guitar, now the thing is, the guy that sold me em' at the nearby Guitar Shop, sooo the thing is, the Round thingys at the end of the strings you use to string the regular Steel stringed Guitars (the thing that you put the Pegs through) is there, and i dont think i can use pegs on the guitar

As the wooden thing that holds the Strings (the one down), dont think i can put pegs there lol.

  • Love your vids and love the way you say "guitar". awesome vid, helped a lot.

  • extremely useful!!!

  • is that your guitar shop?

  • Really good instructions. I've been putting new strings on the wrong way forever.

  • really helpful. this is a long and tedious battle thought.

  • a million thanks brother

  • Great video, I'm a beginner and this vid helped me string up my first guitar without a hitch

  • What, are all the other videos for dummies too? because apparently watching the video for dummies has made me smarter than all the confused smart people. :D

  • Thank you so much for this! I was about to throw my guitar at the wall in frustration. Luckily, it didn't come to that :p

  • I love your tuning keys :O

  • Thanks for this video, otherwise I wouldn't have never figured out how to restring my classical guitar. This video is really clear and descriptive. At first it was a nightmare, then it became really simple! 10/10 ! :D

  • @nolifepro14 You're an idiot.

  • @Mephistoau your mother bitch

  • @nolifepro14 and u kind of people suck. . .

  • The K.I.S.S. principal. Thanks for the help.

    *****

  • found out my strings werent put on right -_-.... now i have to go restring it bc they came untied

  • just kidding, thanks!

  • fucking shit video, u broke my string

  • I woman handled mine and it costed me so much money!

Good tutorial, my first classical guitar had regular acoustic strings on it and after putting the proper strings on the guitar it has much better action!

  • PERFECT, this was so easy, thanks!

  • Thank you so much!!^^

  • I got a guitar for my bday but the strings were already fragile, and threw them out...How do I know if I buy steel-strings or nylon strings for it?

  • thanks a lot, , , now i can be a real guitarist, , , XP

  • Thanks man! this helped me out alot! its not confusing like all the other crappy videos.

  • good tut

  • Useful video, Thanks.

  • 2:06 did he say let the women handle it? XD

  • @ionglacier nah. he said "man-handle it, or woman-handle it" sry. but the way he said it i just couldn't help but laugh. =P

  • cool thanks this tutorial helped a lot! Theres a lot of crappy videos on this which i end up breaking my guitar strings trying to do it !THis is definetely the best! 10/10 ! :D

  • he talks like mr.Rogers

  • Very helpful! Thanks, just re-strung my guitar and it's sounding good :D

  • oops i made some mistakes in that but never mind...

  • is it possoble to turn my classical guitar into a steel string by using this method with steel strings? Mine is quite cheap and 3 of the strings are metal, the other metal, so i think i should be able to do it. If somebody could reply ASAP i would deaply appreciate it !!!!!!!! :)

  • The three strings that you said were steel are actually nylon wrapped in metal. Classical guitars have this style of strings. I wouldn't advise putting steel strings on a classical because if the neck isn't reinforced it can actually ruin your guitar. Some classical guitars are designed with a reinforced neck and you could actually switch between steel and nylon. Take it to your guitar shop and have en check it out.

  • omggg i buy the wrong string 0.o omg

  • haha oh wow that sucks.... i have sumthing funny too.... i had a classical guitar and i thought it would be cool if i put bronze strings so the day i bought the strings i found out that you shouldnt do that because it would not sound great, and i had already replaced the strings..... so yeah that sucked..... and i broke a nut trying to tune it.

  • cheers i wanna start playin my old guitar again which is nylon, good to hear people still use em, i love the tones way better then steel...

wat type of strings do most acoustic players use these day?

  • very helpful, thank you!

  • thnxxx soo much ....this really helped :)

  • some are

  • isnt nylon stings black AND plastic????

  • I should of watched this before I restrung my guitar! I've done it all wrong

  • are u the guy from "will it blend" or wateevr! u sound exactly like him! AHAHA

  • Thank you! I've spent ages trying re-string it the same way I do my electric guitar!

  • how do i know whether to get normal, hard or extra hard tension strings? D'Addario i was thinkin

  • @Spudgeful

At the moment I'm restringing my acoustic with D'Addario strings, I dont know anything about their acoustic strings, but I strongly reccomend their electric strings. As for tension, I'd probably go for normal, it sounds great and mine have lasted a year at a time, I've only just gotten off the set of extra strings that came with the guitar!

  • @Spudgeful get augustine strings! they're the best!

  • Can this nylon string can use on modern guitar??

  • @Greenrock5551

If by modern you mean electric, then no.

  • thanks, i didn't know how to string properly my classical guitar and the strings kept breaking!

  • Very helpful. Thanks!

  • Hi guys! I havea question:

I got a classic guitar with 3 metal and 3 nylon strings. So theres 1 problem. On the nylon strings appeared some white spots... Why for?

  • It will crack:)

  • Thank you! This video is really helpful! I'm just learning to play classical guitar, and I needed new (nylon) strings! Favorite part - "Man handle it a little bit...or woman handle it..."

  • i hate changing strings

  • Okay if i have a realllllllly cheap acoustic guitar with the three nylon strings, could i restring it with all metal strings? or would it like break in half?

  • yes it would bend the neck and eventuly snap it

  • I am restringing my classical guitar as I watch this video on the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving. It's always been a tradition of mine to string and polish my guitars over the holidays while other people are cooking, getting ready, etc. It's a real satisfying thing.

  • @utube9000 hahahahaha i'm doing it thanksgiving day!

  • Awesome. My advice (if you haven't gotten that far yet) is to string your guitar in this order: Low E, A, D and then HIGH E, B, G. Otherwise, your treble strings will cross over each other and things will get real confusing!

    Good luck and Happy "Thankstringing!"

  • Very nice video tutorial. What's hard is to tune a nylon string than a wire one. :(

  • my nylon guitar's tune always drops to D# no matter how many times I have set the tuning to E standard... why does that happen??? it's been several months now... The Standard tuning would stay for a couple of days, and then drop down to D#... I wonder what's casusing it, I would appreciate if someone has any advice

  • perfect video. just got a new guitar from valencia spain. a juan hernandez :) thanks for showing me how to restring it!

  • Fuck this!...I just buy the ball end kind...Yes, they make them.

    Great video though.

"And now...." He loves saying that. XD

  • @stri[es5150

Whats the point of buying steel strings for a classical guitar -.-

  • @ techskater107

Not steel strings dude...I was reffering to the nylon ball-end type...D'Addario makes them....Way faster.

  • @stripes5150

Ah, those, totaly forgot bout them!

I'mma go check my local store soon to see if they have some. thanks

  • Fuck this!...I just buy the ball end kind...Yes, they make them.

    Great video though.

  • thx

  • Excellent video, a lot more in-depth than other restringing videos. I wasn't exactly sure how to do the loops and what not before but you explained it very well.

  • lol. Guit-AHHHHR... Good vid though.

  • very helpful

  • can you put nylon strings on a standard acoustic?

  • why not ? but not the other way round.
