  • Cobain is superior

  • Well, Mr. Bowie, you're a genius...but you sure is crazy

  • essa musica tanto na versão do david bowie tanto na do nirvana fica muito loka hahaha

  • lol it's so weird listening to the original version of a cover for the first time, like if you've listened to the cover version over and over again and have a deep emotional attachment to it. It doesn't matter how genius or revolutionary the original is, it's hard to listen to without feeling like it's just completely wrong. That being said, I think I could grow to love this song....

  • 96 people never met the man who sold the world

  • I've always thought that Bowie's original version was better but he must have made a shitload of money from Nirvana's remake of the song. The original version was never released as a single, just an obscure album track from the 1970's that Curt Cobain picked up on. And I dont think Nirvana intended it to be a big hit, it was only a one off song at an unplugged session and it went on from there to be a big song.

  • I really love the vector image.

  • i've appreciated and enjoyed the British music scene since i was a kid, and lots of great artist came out of the scene, but always remember the one thing they ALL said, "YOU HAVEN'T MADE IT UNTIL YOU MAKE IT IN AMERICA".

    Hear,Hear..............

  • It's cool that David Bowie covered this Nirvana song.

  • @Dregan Nirvana covered his song actually, but both songs are great.

  • @WillyFooFoos I think you've been trolled hard, bro.

  • @Atombombmother (w w w) .chacha.com/question/who-originally-sang-man-who-sold-the-world you might want to check again, bro.

  • @WillyFooFoos no shit, everyone older than 16 years old knows that David Bowie did the original. He's trolling you, i.e. he's just saying Nirvana did the original to annoy Bowie fans.

  • @Atombombmother not just people over 16 not everyone under 16 is oblivious to good music

  • @Dregan you are ignorant

nirvana covered this song of bowie

  • we must have died alone a long long time ago

  • Great song, such a sexy voice.

  • Fuck Nirvana's version... British music always trumps American!!!

  • Es mejor la versión de nirvana...

  • in my musical taste, nirvana's version is better, but how can u hate david bowie?

  • This Bowie vs. Kurt Cobain bullshit is absurd. I love that Nirvana made this their own & I love that David Bowie made it period. It's not like enjoying one song or the other is mutually exclusive; Jesus, people, try, TRY for a tiny bit of perspective. Two great versions of a great song by two very different artists. However, the burden of attention & respect should be applied to them for their similarities: two incredible musicians, consummate artists & entertainers who created astounding music.

  • @Feydmep r u a musician of any level?ur talking out ur ass

  • @Feydmep yes I can play this I could play this b4 my friend told be who the hell I was playing

  • You know, Bowie had to live on with the thought that he was covering Nirvana whenever he performs this song.

  • @KeiferLirette that's what you call b.s.

  • @outi5000 He even stated in an interview that once a group of kids came up to him and said that "It's great you're covering Nirvana."

He said that in his mind, he thought of several obscenities that were targeted toward them.

Sucks he has to live on with the thought that people actually think HE'S covering Nirvana.

  • You know, listening to this, I think of that one time Kurt Cobain mocked Axl Rose for being outdated and ridiculous; I think the word "dinosaur" came up? Anyway, it's hilarious to me because of the fact that Cobain was indirectly responsible for giving us such timely bands as Bush, Creed, The Exies, and other groups that clearly do not sound ridiculous and dated over a decade later!

My point? When David Bowie inadvertently dissed Cobain, HE had the talent AND the posterity to back it up. XD

  • GREAT DAVID!

    FUCK KURT COBAIN!!

  • @PTWahWah Are you expecting to get highest rated comment with crap like this? Talking about one the greatest musicians like that? Go die :)

  • esta cancion se hizo famosa por nirvana

  • This has to be the only song with the Güiro actually contributing something

  • @theguywithoutafoot go learn something about south american music

  • nirvana takes this and turns it into a good song.

  • @glethal85 Agree, a good song :), BUT this is a fantastic song here

  • @glethal85 no they made it a different song, this is already a good song. if you don't like it, shut up and move on with your worthless bickering.

  • An absolute and utter masterpiece alright, brilliance sheer brilliance

  • So fucking beautiful... What a masterpiece!

  • NEVER USE THE WORD BEAY BECAUSE IT MEANS TO BE SOLD OUT TO OTHER MEANS OF FUNDS BY YOUR PART AND YOUR CHECK. SOLD ALSO MEANS A MEANS OF MARQUEE WHICH LONG AGO MEANT HE DIES PEOPLE TO STATE NOT OWNING THAT ANYMORE. SO YOU LOST SOMETHING NEVER STATE IT, BUT BACK OWN IT.

  • Lulu had the most successful version of this song. Lulu, Bowie and Cobain all brought something different to it. Why bitch?

  • Geez's, guys, Why must every comment have to compare Nirvana to Bowie? Yes, I am aware that Nirvana did a cover of this song, but you should take it as a compliment. Nirvana kept it raw, and obviously considered Bowie a great influence. At least someone didn't take this and turn this into a dubstep song.

  • @GorillazBeatles *At least someone didn't take this and turn this into a dubstep song*

    watch?v=IQt1F7J_Fe0

  • @Ancientreapers This gives me a reason to say fuck my life.

  • great!! now I must search for 80skid72's comment ...

  • if you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything

  • Just discovered today that this song was originally from David Bowie, I had no idea it was a cover. Awesome song even in the original version

  • Uh....Indie was around since the mid 80's?

  • hahaha "this was an indie band"... you sure you're talkin about nirvana, heebs. cause as far as i can remember nirvana was a grunge band and the word indie wasn't even invented at that time

  • @zilvernteer You have me mistaken with someone else in your comment there.

  • *grabs popcorn and sits down to watch pointless yet hilarious flamewar in progress*

  • I vote Lulu (complete with Bowie on Backing and Sax)

  • literally on every song on youtube, you can find hipsters and punks arguing about everything. come on, no body argued at woodstock, lets pretend youtube is woodstock and all just get along so that we can all read worthwhile comments.

  • @fitzgibbs Somehow I have trouble believing that *no one* argued at Woodstock...

  • BOWIE DOES NOT TO COVERS

  • @onions42 He's done many covers.

  • @onions42 Actually, Bowie did an entire album of covers...it's called "pinups"...check it out.

  • lol, you people are a bunch of pretentious, self righteous assholes; everything your arguing over is subjective. .

  • i was 12 i think when nevermind came out.looking back at it now it changed the way i felt about music and life.I don't think he was overrated.

  • ma c'avete da litigare su ogni cosa e che cavolo.

  • Every time someone says, "The Nirvana version is better", God kills a kitten.

  • @djtahoe Every time someone says, "I can respect both version", a cat gets its wings.

I am the last cat person. Tybalt, prince of cats! Apparently no one respects both old and new anymore.

  • @carale1986 You should see my Facebook post then! ;-)

  • I visited David in Beckenham just before he left for Berlin to record Hero’s. This is nothing special as he just except us council house kids into his home as friends and played with zowie his child and made us teenage kids so welcome with cups of tea and biscuits. I was 13.

  • @justagirl123431 And you seem like a horrid little bitch for even thinking about calling people names like "pussy" and "faggot". I'm not a fan of Cobain- but God, if you were standing in front of me I might just have to bitch slap you.

  • @80skid72 You just got through trashing Cobain and now your trying to stand up for him? FAIL.

  • I find the final part of the song transcendental, ecstatic, almost religious. I am always shocked when I realise what the music can do with your soul

  • they both did this song. same chords, same lyrics, same damn song. who gives a fuck whos better or worse, its just a song, get over it....if you dont like THIS version, why are you on this video? and if you dont like the Nirvana version THEN DONT FUCKING LISTEN TO IT THEN!

damn, people these days haha appreciate or walk away

  • @pulpfictioninorder But if we don't establish which is better, the world will fall into ruin. Let them argue.

  • @THindsvids well said my friend... and pulp fiction is an epic movie

  • @pulpfictioninorder Nirvana's was a semitone lower than bowie's.

  • YouTube commenters always make me question humanity

"David Bowie was the genius who wrote the song, Kurt Cobain was a whiny little bitchy junkie who killed himself, Fuck Kurt Cobain!"

"This version fucking sucks! Fuck David Bowie! faggot cocksucker, Kurt Fucking Cobain rules!"

You're all entitled to freedom of speech, but for the sake of humanity, just shut the fuck up

  • Bowie has more hits than Kurtsie could have ever hoped for.

  • I hate the fact that like the 40% of the releated videos are about Nirvana

  • Official, this song causes people to get angry.

  • lovely song

  • Sorry but I find Nirvana to be one of the most overrated bands ever. Yes, they were talented, and yes, they struck a nerve- but many people are now looking back and wondering what all the fuss was. It's hard to have sympathy for someone who gets into the spotlight, then suddenly decides to bitch and moan about it constantly. I don't mean anything disrespectful towards Kurt Cobain, but I hardly think he's the greatest singer/songwriter that ever lived.

  • @80skid72 Don't you hate it when people call him a hero?

  • @ColonelTobiasFunke why because it's true?

  • @ColonelTobiasFunke Actually, yes.

  • @80skid72 sorry but you're completely wrong

  • @80skid72 There is no greatest singer or songwriter r musician in the world. Its all based off opinion. Im not saying there there arent talented musicians Im just sying that you or anyone can say that a musician isnt good.

  • @Mega1337Azn Of course. It's all about opinion at the end of the day. I personally don't find Nirvana all that special- but others might.

  • @80skid72 Why are you bitching about Kurt on David Bowie's version?

  • @eceliikx0 Who said I was bitching? I'm simply following a train of thought and leaving my own personal opinion. Some on here are putting down Bowie and praising Cobain- THAT'S WHY. Does it bother you?

  • @80skid72 I wouldn't even call them talented.

  • I respectfully disagree with you...I'm sorry.

  • @Pattonfrodo And that's fine. I'm not saying I am right about this, I'm just saying Nirvana never did anything for me.

  • @80skid72 Cobain isn't even ONE of the greatest singer/songwriters that ever lived. He was a fad who just so happened to die so now the world must kiss his ass and call him one of the greats. If he was still alive he'd only be looked upon as a fad from the 90's. Nothing more nothing less.

  • @troublesomej haha and who are you to say it? nobody.. so shut up and respect a KING of the music

  • @troublesomej How can you be so sure of that?? As far as i know, Nirvana got into making punkish music before kurt died. They could have become some badass punkers these days.

  • @80skid72 You are fundamentally, Nirvanas influence on music cannot be overstated. You really have no idea about what you are talking about.

  • @ThreeCrowns I never said he had no influence on music! My God, people, CALM THE FUCK DOWN. I said he PERSONALLY NEVER DID ANYTHING FOR ME. Does that mean I have NO IDEA WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT?

  • @80skid72 Yes, but the reasons you cite as examples as to why you think he's overrated are BS. I respect your opinion, but I don't respect how you arrived at your conclusion. I think if you knew more, your opinion would be slightly different.

  • @ThreeCrowns Do I need a damn reason to think someone is overrated? I know of many people who happen to agree with me. At a party recently, the 90s came up and Nirvana was mentioned. Many people there said looking back they found the band to be overrated. Isn't that enough? I'm not writing a thesis on this, for God's sakes. God, you all seem rather touchy about Kurt Friggin' Cobain! I didn't really cite reasons as to WHY I find him overrated.

  • @80skid72 But I DO hate artists who constantly whine about being famous. If you don't wanna be famous, then don't become rock stars! Simple as that!

  • @80skid72 Whatever, judging by the videos in your channel I see you really love the 80s and pop music, so its understandable that you don't like Kurt Cobain, after all, all that stuff was pretty much what he was reacting against.

  • @ThreeCrowns I actually love music from the 50s up to today- not just the 80s. I even like a couple of Nirvana's songs- I just don't think of Kurt Cobain as a music God. I have just as many songs from the 90s in my iTunes than the 80s. Are we not allowed to find Nirvana overrated?

  • @80skid72 I respect if you don't like Nirvana, but to say they are overrated is a bit ignorant. The band single handy killed an entire genre of music, and ushered in a new sound to the world, not just an incredible feat, but a revolutionary one, that I don't think any lover of music should shrug aside, fan or no fan. This is something all successful musicians strive to do, one way or another, and Kurt accomplished it in spectacular fashion, even if it was inadvertent...

  • @ThreeCrowns single handed? so bands like soundgarden, alice in chains, pearl jam? they had nothing to do with it? granted im not a big fan of pearl jam but to say that Nirvana did that single handed is a bit of an overstatement? and i like nirvana i like their version of this song but youre goin a bit overboard arent ya?

  • @acewizhyde You clearly have no idea what you're talking about, the Smells Like Teen Spirit video opendc the floodgates for all those other bands. This is common knowledge.

  • @ThreeCrowns you clearly don't know what you're talking about facelift by alice in chains was released aug 21 1990 and man in the box was frequently played on Mtv and radio year before nevermind was even released. before you accuse me of not knowing what im taking about you should really check your facts in your myopic music bubble that you live in nirvana may have opened the doors for "all those other bands" but in the real world the doors were already wide open.i agree your knowledge is"common

  • @ThreeCrowns Nirvana wouldn't have become half as famous as they did if Kurt didn't kill himself. As for their musical ability, any beginner guitarist can play nearly all of their songs with ease. It's all power chords, and a lot of their songs use the same 2 chords over and over. Could they play more complex music? Sure, as evidenced by their cover of songs like this. But they sure didn't write very complex stuff. Add to that half the time you can't even tell what the lyrics are.

  • @Heebs1313 Nirvana were already famous, Nevermind was massive, their media coverage at the time overshadowed anything else, you couldn't pick up a music mag without a picture of them on the front cover and this was an indie band. Admittedly Cobains death sealed their infamy. But if anything they should be lauded for putting the final nail in the coffin of the poodle haired, spandex wearing wannabe stadium rockers of the late 80's and showed them up for the bunch of cunts they really were..

  • @Heebs1313 It isn't the complexity of the music that is important, it is the atmosphere it creates. Ambiguity is never a problem in art either, so hard to grasp lyrics aren't really a negative aspect.

  • @RMcWhanAccount I suppose different people enjoy different things about music. Nirvana didn't used to bother me before I started playing guitar, but once I noticed how simple all their guitar is, I got really annoyed that something like that was so popular. I understand that good music doesn't have to be complex; there are plenty of good songs that are simple. Just to me, when every song by an artist is that way, it says something about their skill as a musician.

  • @Heebs1313 It's because Kurt and the rest of Nirvana were influenced by punk rock and that kind of music isn't technically complicated. It's more about emotion.

  • David Bowie plays it better, he gives his song the tone it needs. Kurt did a good cover but his rendition has a different feel to it, since he is a grunge singer n all.

  • David Bowie is the only one who could wipe my tears!

  • 1. Put headphones on

    2. Take one out and listen

    3. Same thing with the other

This is really 2 songs panned in different directions.

  • I heard on the Swiss news he has been found unresponsive in a Swiss hotel room at 8:15am today...I don't believe it...i chk twitter Dee...email me hun...

  • Sting would kick gayvid bowie's testicles off his face with one finger. Fuck bowie, he owes me $20 for a sack o spuds

  • @SpudcuttersInc i lolled

  • I think Bowie, being the original, when he wrote it during his psychedelic and glam rock era. Ziggy. I like Nirvana's cover, I would be flattered if I were Bowie...but Nirvana didn't have the vocals that Bowie does towards the end of the song. You should see him peforming it in BBC...that was decades more that was 4 decades ago.

  • Nuostabus kūrinys,

    Ačiu.

  • a musica e do David mas a versao do Nirvana e bem melhor!

  • Go David Bowie, I choose you!

  • better than the original may be only the original.Bowie's genius and pioneer

  • It's funny to read all these comments about how Bowie did this or that before some other person was even born.

  • I like both the original version and Nirvana's version :)

  • This is blasphemy..... Cobain must be shaking his head in heaven lol

  • @chinita150 David Bowie wrote this song in 1971 before Cobain was even born. How can you be so dumb? What are you like twelve something? Loads of artists have covered it since Bowie wroter it. This is the original version.

  • @Maxshard cobain is 100 times ever this version is gay

  • @faviox1498 next time you try to say something stupid, try to make sense. And gay isn't an insult.

  • @Luxmaxnike it is if you believe in God...i dont hate anyone..but i dont aprove of everyone being ok with gay people...but thats between them and God

  • @SuperBob447 So, if i belive in god, i can use the word "gay" to insult something i don't like and people have to accept it?

  • @SuperBob447

No, it's not okay to use gay as an insult. When Jesus said love everyone, he didn't say "love everyone except gay people, they're freaks." He meant EVERYONE.

  • @SuperBob447 So we are supposed to take into account what YOU don't approve of? When did you choose to be straight?

  • @SuperBob447 If you believe in God why do you like Kurt Cobain? He took drugs and is believed to have killed him self and renounced Christianity. All of which are heavily frowned upon by God (presuming you're christian because you said God, either way two of which are frowned upon by most religions) and he's become an idol which God is also apparently against. But it's bad for people accept homosexuals?

  • Comment removed

  • @faviox1498 Bowies has been married with children for donkeys years and he has been a legend for forty years. Je jas jad more effect on music styles than anyone else in music history and written countless brilliant songs.

Why do you thin Cobain covered this song......because he was a huge fan of Bowie and because he loved the song but Bowie wrote it. End of.

  • @chinita150 Lol you dumb fuck. Think before you speak, or is that too much to ask for?

  • this version sucks no one can compare with kurt cobain

  • @pdroprez12 TROLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • We must have died alone..

  • anyone tried the jonas brothers version?

haha, had you there guys! :-D

  • both versions are great and there both by one of the best singers of their time so stop arguing

  • This one and Star Man good when you are stoned, Diamond Dogs also, don't smoke no more though the music is still good. Bowie how did you do it.

  • this is an awesome song if you actully listen to the lyrics, kurt coben made a good choice to cover this song

  • @Bastmosis...I LOVE IT!!! "autotuned prepubescent shit" LMAO!!! Amen brother.

  • lady gaga?

    xD

  • @matatena123 OMG you fucking top 40 weaned retard, Bowie had the lightning bolt on his face decades before that snot Stefani Germanotta was born.

  • @YesImACunt Afraid to reply, actually. Damn, YesImACunt? Oh my? Older than you are I can assure you. Friends of David I was before you or the gaming crowd? May I humbly offer "Ashes to Ashes"?

  • A great song, Bowie's original has more polish but there is something to be said for the visceral nature of Cobain's heroin suicide colored version, just as there is much to be said for Johnny Cash's rendition of "Hurt". I only had to chime in about beiber calling himself the new Cobain; No, no you are not you autotuned prepubescent shit, but I will buy you all the heroin you want and a shotgun if you want to live your delusion.

  • @Bastmosis Did he actually call himself that? My mind is just fuck right now...

  • @Bastmosis He really said that? What a fuckface....

    Great song, I agree :)

  • @Bastmosis this is a much trippier version. but i think Nirvana's version has more of an emotional connection. I like the rawness of Cobain's voice. But credit where credit's due.

  • @Bastmosis ACTUALLY, Bieber never called himself the new Cobain. that is just something the internet made up to keep talking shit about the kid. Do not get me wrong, I'm not a Bieber fan or anything, just think it's fair to be honest.

  • @Bastmosis Thank god Cobain died so he wouldnt have to hear himself compared to Justin Beiber. Thats about the biggest insult one could possibly think of... thts even worse than getting unfriended on facebook.

  • @Bastmosis Did that lil kid really say that?

  • @Bastmosis You serious little faggot bieber truly said that ???!!!!!!

  • @Sindrassa Of course it's ludicrous that Bieber said that, and I don't take him the least bit seriously- but do we really have to call him a little faggot? I mean, it's almost 2012 already.

  • @80skid72 You mean the kid? I suggest he kill himself, save us all a lot of trouble, not to mention ????? OH please?

  • @superunt43 I meant it's not cool to call him a "little faggot".

  • @80skid72 I did not? Quite frankly I take it as insult you thought I did? faggot is word by the way unused here any longer?

  • @superunt43 I never said you DID say that. I was referring to Sindrassa.

  • @Sindrassa Dick-head did not say that?

  • @Bastmosis not a bad deal I am thinking...

  • @Bastmosis That's horrid if Justin Bieber actually thinks she's Kurt Cobain's replacement. I wonder what Kurt's daughter thinks of that.

  • @Bastmosis Whoa. Justin fucking Bieber called himself Cobain? I'm gonna drown in my sorrow and drink bleach. What the fuck has the world come to?

  • @CanYouRecord Wait a few days, it gets worse

  • @Bastmosis Don't you dare mock Justin Bieber for saying he's the Kurt Cobain of his time! Kurt Cobain's ghost told me that he felt like the Justin Bieber of his time and that's why he shot himself.

    :D

  • You know, I love Nirvana, I really do. But JEEEZUS Cobain fans can be a bunch of obnoxious wanking idiots. THIS IS A DAVID BOWIE SONG. Can we just leave it at that and enjoy a wonderful song?

  • @mrmojorsn111 My thoughts exactly, we all know her in the Us best music comes from UK?

  • @superunt43 Our CANADA? Meaning Rush.

  • @superunt43 Who's Rush?

  • @TheSinestr You are kidding?

  • @TheSinestr I would dignify that with answer, however, if you need beg question as to that? I cry for you? That's kind of like asking who is Captain Kirk?

  • @superunt43 Well to be slightly fair, I'm sure that there are some posters here that are so young that they may not know some older bands. Still, rather than asking here, they ought to
