One of the most beautiful moments you'll ever see in sports. The crowd refused to let the PA interrupt his ovation too - just like with The Rocket's. That's about as high of praise as you can get from a Montreal crowd.
We miss you, Saku. Hope to see you retire in a Montreal uniform when it's all said and done.
You can actually help work towards a cure for cancer and many other diseases by watching the video on my channel. Your computer can actually be used as a scientific research tool.
@philberu Yep, and to top it off Saku was there at that last game... he was given the same honor as Richard for his return from cancer and a standing ovation again for his return to Montreal, with the Ducks.
Me thinks you're projecting, boy. You seem to have a hard on for child molestation since you brought it up out of the blue. Must be the Montreal atmosphere getting to you.
Dunno anything about a Montreal atmosphere. I am a Pens fan. I have a psychology degree you see, and I kinda know a child molester when I see one. Even in print. They are almost exclusively Leaf fans. Fact.
Pics of what? A psychology degree? I bet you've never seen a degree of any sort, have you? You've more or less admitted you cheer for the Leafs so you MUST be a pedophile. Used to hang out with the ushers at the Gardens eh? Talk about failing. Leafs. LOL.
I will most definitely scream the infamous 4 letter names in the comfort of my living room with my GF asking me to shut up. GO HABS! GO SAKU! - SAKU SAKU SAKU SAKU SAKU!
i hate 2 break this 2 u guys but us habs fans would boo koivu when he returns its a natural thing 4 habs fan 2 do 2 their former players regardless of their status with the team previously.
@HISHAM931 You can Boo him all you want. As a die hard Habs fan for years, I will be cheering him at the Bell Center for all that he has done for our great franchise and city.
@sycho67ak lol dont need 2 mark my words 21 273 ppl will be booing him when he returns 2 the bell centre cuz u dont know the nature of habs fans just like they booed kovalev even though he did great stuff with the habs.
I haven't missed a game so far this season. If you'll recall, habs fans gave Kovy a standing ovation when he scored against Montreal with the sens last season. We respect what he did for the team and what he's doing for the city still today. That being said, fans like teasing players. Most people don't hold it against kovy for signing with ottawa. Saku will be celebrated when he comes back. After that, he'll be booed.
I absolutely agree, but in the end, after he visits once or twice, he WILL be booed, because that's what fans do. Just like when we chant "Thoooommass! Thoooommass! Thoooommass!" during a habs vs. bruins game. It's not cuz we hate the guy, we're just teasing.
@DrunkenLeprechaunPro that's a bad example man lol, did Thomas ever play for montreal? no...Koivu was one of the most loved players in the habs history....little history for you, not ONCE did the habs fans boo Guy Lafleur when he played on the opposing team, and might i remind you, it was for the Quebec Nordiques one of our MOST hated rivals! mark my words, Koivu will NOT get booed or teased.
lollll talk about a bad example. Guy Lafleur was the leading pilon for Montreal for years. He scored 50 goals repeatedly and won multiple Stanley Cups. Koivu never achieved any of these feats for the Habs. Most people wanted Saku out of Montreal. I think he was respected, but I still think he'll be booed. Maybe not the first time around, but he will be later on.
A lot of people respected him as a player but felt the team needed change and bigger players. In the end he was replaced by a younger, more talented centerman in Plekanec. Also, a lot of people felt he was a "click" instigator... meaning he, Rivet and a few other guys stuck together and that created divisions in the team.
(We remember the Rivet + Koivu tussel vs. Dagenais + Ribeiro).
Touching video. - I'm Russian but regardless of whose fan you are, the man deserves utmost respect. - Cheers Saku, you're one of the best European-born NHLers
I always thought and wished that Saku would've been playing his whole career with Canadiens. Koivu played his best years with Canadiens. He gave everything on and off the ice for that team. He never complained about how mediocre material that team had. Took all that sh*t from pressuring canadianfrench media and never complained.
It's a shame how Habs organization treated him after all those years.

you fans are great, i am from turku (were saku played hes early years) and i couldn be more pride than this moment.. (maybe the 1995 mm be the greates moment or 2004 worldcup 2nd) montreal fans thank you for being so great people

I praise Koivu for his inspirational return and the Montreal fans for their emotional ovation. But I have to get a few things straight:
- First of all, Koivu is NOT the best Montreal captain ever. That honour without a doubt goes to Jean Beliveau.
- Second, Montreal obviously has some of the best fans in the history of hockey along with Leafs fabs and all Canadian fans. But I dont think anyone can call them the best after they booed there own team when they were down in the dumps.
Koivu is the best Captain this team has ever seen! I love Jean Beliveau! But his Captaincy was alot easier than Saku's! The teams he Captained we're better and more talented. The era was different and the fact that he was a french canadian made things alot easier for him. Saku suffered through alot of unwarranted bullshit however never once did he turn his back to the Habs or the city of Montreal!
One of the greatest athletes ever. So much respect..
