@RIPP1N "WHY WOULD a van with kids in it drive up to where people where being shot."
.
This is a question most people neglect to ask. Everybody acts like the military wasn't out for the well being of others. Yet, if that was true, then why would the military show up on ground and save the kids? The whole video is just massively out of context.

I don't dispute really anything you said in your description and the magnified section you showed does in my opinion look like some weapon.
Here's a reason why the journalists were hiding. They didn't want to get shot by ground forces (obviously...). Little did they know that the Apaches' would shoot them anyways.
@Venim0 Thanks for a reasoned response. You're right, and that's the thing. If there were ground forces TOO hide from then 1. The reporter KNOWS the allied forces were a threat to him because the had been attacked, and 2. That gives justification for the choppers to be there looking for threats to the ground forces...
Yes, they miss ID'd the reporters, but they were spot on the others with weapons. Collateral Damage, not 'Murder'.

"IF there were no allied forces in the area why is the reporter hiding at the corner while apparently checking his camera. What was around that corner that he didn't want to expose himself to?"
War photographers do that all the time. They probably heard the plane or heard gunfire.
@WinstonSmith46 I wouldn't bother mate. It's obviously an RPG. It couldn't be anything else. I've been thinking about uploading a 6x zoom footage of it but still, even if some people saw "Made in Russia" written on the side they'll just call it a large bottle of vodka.
@WinstonSmith46 I said HE rests on the rpg end. He places his weight on where the warhead of a high explosive anti tank missile would be if your supposition is correct. Also, given they'd just blown up a pair of reporters, and spent so long lying about everything else in this senario, ie not know how the children were injured, or what killed the reporters, the credibility of army reports is limited, and by limited I mean "0"
@BonesTheCat Now consider the difference between the 2 societies. Baghdad was before the Americans blew it up a reasonably secular and scholarly place. Afghanistan however contained people who played catch with cumulative pressure mines, believing not physics, but god determined who the mine would kill. 2 radically different cultures with radically different understandings of the weapons they employ.
The Individual soldiers do not deserve 1% of the blame that Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld , Powell, Blair, and Howard deserve for brainwashing half the world into believing their lies, and starting this war in which more than 800,000 people have died with no benefit whatsoever to the Americans, nor the Iraqis....unless you have investments in Halliburton that is.....
@WinstonSmith46 all the portions of the report I read seem to be is CO's trying to cover teh asses of the subordinates with phrases like "they were looking at a smaller screen", and "were looking for armed insurgents"
All I see in the video is 12 guys, 1 of which has an AK, 2 have cameras, and 1 has a tripod. You claim the tripod is an RPG, but even the method the device is handled does not indicate it is a dangerous implement., as the individual rests upon its top.
@WinstonSmith46 look if you're so convinced it was an rpg, perhaps you can find us the report which notes that 1 was collected from this area when the troops showed up.
Another piece of evidence against this NOT being a war crime is to look at the bodies of the guys as they walk. These guys are WELL fed. They don't have the look of some on-the-run insurgent sneaking around to try and blow something up and get away with it. Think, people, THINK!
@mordinvan I checked reports and images of the two reporters and they never took a tripod of that size on assignment with them. They also never took more than they could handle on their own for ease of movement through war torn areas and for getting in and out of vehicles. They never had 'staff' to carry their stuff.
@BonesTheCat Tripods can have collapsible legs allowing them to go from 5 feet to ~2 in the span of a few seconds, so I don't really see you're point.
@13wraps almost a much as people like to lean on the rocket end of a RPG-7. The way the guy was treating that object was not like an armed explosive device. Also carrying around, or having someone carry a tripod is not that big a deal, so long as you keep your paws on the camera equipment you get to keep your photo's.
@13wraps But riddle me this, why would a group of 12 insurgents all sneak up to a corner to attack, when at best 2-3 of them armed? Seems like a pretty shitty plan to me.
@mordinvan so that when they die they can pick up the weapons they dropped. thats prolly why th freakin journalists were there in the first place so after the weapons were picked up they culd be like "OH TEH GEEZ LOOK AT TEH 'INNOCENTS' THEY KILLED"
@13wraps Considering how common and cheep AK's are, that they would not see fit to equip each person with one instead of your whole waiting for the person to die so they could use them scenario, I find the be grasping at straws.
@mordinvan -.- aks are not cheap. especially if you're giving it to someone just so they can use it once befor they die. i dont know where you got that one from. also, i didnt mean so the other person could use it, i meant so that it appeared as if there were no weapons to begin with.
speaking of grasping at straws, your terrorist defense is kind of moot. y'know, seeing as how they found aks and rpgs when they arrived at the site.
@WinstonSmith46 I know exactly the part of the video you are talking about. Where you see the guy crouched down from the corner of the building with a black cylindrical object that is held up near his face. THAT IS THE TELESCOPIC CAMERA LENS I AM REFERRING TOO. I can tell it's a lens because it has a larger circumference at the lens end than at the end that connects it to the camera.
@WinstonSmith46 You don't know they where insurgents. They could have been a convoy of guides there to protect the photographers. From that distance neither you nor the pilots can tell the difference. Thats why my qualm is with the shooting of the van. From the 17min and the 40min video I see no evidence that the van was a threat and therefor at that moment the pilots broke the rules of engagement.
@WinstonSmith46 I see one AK47 and one telescopic camera lens and two cameras on shoulder straps. Just because there where militants in the area there is no reason for these guys to have died. By saying "well, there where bad people in the area" does not justify the deaths of the innocent that where there. When are idiots like you going to get that through your think skulls. You can't justify an innocent persons death not matter what spin you put on it.
Looks like a gun and a RPG to me... I heard there was only one gun found at the scene though. (TYT) Bottom line, the initial attack on the entire group is debatable... The attack on the people in the van trying to help was uncalled for.
People were killed who did/did not have it coming. If anyone thinks this isn't what happens in every war ever fought, go back to sleep. WikiLeaks, congratulations! You have re-discovered the wheel.
@slowbeetle1 i'm not sure you followed this on the news but the american government lied about certain things that happened during this event, such as saying that their were no children. That is why wikileaks leaked it because the public deserves to know the truth.
Legitimate media who do not want to be taken for insurgents wear non-threatening colours (blue) with a "press" logo and blood type.
In this case the "victim" is dressed in regular clothing and taking cover/concealment from the US forces which he was photographing (pictures found on his camera) which taken in the context of him being a part of an ambush group, turns him from "press" into "embedded military photographer."
@greatpatriot1 They are Reuters war photographers. They can't very well report or photograph the war if they are not there. Besides, as far as can be seen from the full 17 min clip they are not in an area where people are fighting. They are in a quiet part of the suburb taking photos and being escorted by locals for safety. The pilots saw a group of men holding cameras with telescoping lenses and tripods and mistook them for weapons. They should have looked closer before they opened fire.
@PiratesVersusNinjas This video - as I've explained already - is about WikiLeaks reporting of the facts. I saw the whole vid and was disturbed by it. I was particularly disturbed by the attack on the van when the wounded should've had the chance at medical attention, but that doesn't change the FACTS about WikiLeaks apparent lack of journalistic integrity regarding the circumstances surrounding this incident. They made claims that are CLEARLY not true.
@BonesTheCat I tried to find if you cleared up what the claims they made were not true but couldn't find it, can you specify which claims that were made that you think were untrue
@chwdiv25 That, and they lacked anything identifying themselves as part of the press. Reporters in war zones are supposed to wear vests with "PRESS" in big white letters so people won't mistake them for combatants. Neither of these reporters did so. Insurgents often film their fights for propaganda purposes so carrying a camera does not automatically make one a journalist.
And later in the video (which you didn't show) when the man crawling on the footpath is being collected for medical treatment, why did the gunships open fire on them?
You know, the part where the two kids in the front seat are clearly visible.
Sorry, but they are still trigger happy cowboys, and they are still required to stand-by their actions.
@MrBipana This video is to highlight WikiLeaks use of "indiscriminate" and "unprovoked slaying" of "unarmed civilians" when this ISN'T true. Even you didn't disagree with that part.
The deaths of Namir Noor-Eldeen and Saeed Chmagh was tragic, was were the deaths and injuries of anyone trying to help. They didn't NEED to hit the van.
WikiLeaks THEMSELVES linked the ROE for that area at that time and clearly the van wasn't marked as an emergency vehicle.
@BonesTheCat I didn't know I would need to be cleared marked as emergency personnel to assist at a car accident I arrive at on the freeway. My mistake.
And the kids were a lot easier to identify in the video than way may have been small arms.
@BonesTheCat I'm sorry, but regardless of the photographers mistakes at not wearing press jackets you can't say that these pilots are innocent. It was an unprovoked attack on unarmed civilians because there was no provocation from the unarmed photographers. The pilots may not have known it at the time but it still does not change the fact that innocent people died that day because some hot shot pilots could not tell the difference between a camera lens and a rocket launcher.
@aussielung The van didn't need to be attacked. I agree. I haven't stated otherwise. The deaths of those people and the reporters is tragic.
They found weapons. This info is on Collateralmurder(dot)com's own site. Go to transcript and it's at about 30 minutes. IT's in the comments here, as well.
Please, read up on the facts before commenting to me. Take the time to comprehend what I'm trying get across as well. The vid is horrible. I haven't suggested otherwise. This is about WIKILEAKS.
@MrBipana dude fuck off, ive watched this video several times, and still cant clearly identify children in the van, and the apache gunners didnt have the time to see the video, over and over and over again, its them or us, and this time it was them
you know what really sucks? Moving on with your life till shit like this pops up and you've got to deal with it. It was a good kill. Sux to be the reporter. The Terrorist Strategy in 3 easy steps:
Step 1.)Never wear a uniform in combat
(a violation of Geneva convention)
Step 2.) Blend in with civilians and children hoping they get shot at (journalists too).
Step 3.)Get sympathy from idiots on the internet.
Note: Repeat steps 1-3 above hoping morons continue to fall for this trick over and over again.
Hey, it worked against Israel right?

All I see in the video is 12 guys, 1 of which has an AK, 2 have cameras, and 1 has a tripod. You claim the tripod is an RPG, but even the method the device is handled does not indicate it is a dangerous implement., as the individual rests upon its top.
mordinvan 1 year ago
@WinstonSmith46 look if you're so convinced it was an rpg, perhaps you can find us the report which notes that 1 was collected from this area when the troops showed up.
mordinvan 1 year ago
@WinstonSmith46 Just did, and my vision is just fine.
mordinvan 1 year ago
Another piece of evidence against this NOT being a war crime is to look at the bodies of the guys as they walk. These guys are WELL fed. They don't have the look of some on-the-run insurgent sneaking around to try and blow something up and get away with it. Think, people, THINK!
TruthSurge 1 year ago
@WinstonSmith46 I can't see the RPG, I can see a camera tripod.
mordinvan 1 year ago
@mordinvan I checked reports and images of the two reporters and they never took a tripod of that size on assignment with them. They also never took more than they could handle on their own for ease of movement through war torn areas and for getting in and out of vehicles. They never had 'staff' to carry their stuff.
BonesTheCat 1 year ago
@BonesTheCat Tripods can have collapsible legs allowing them to go from 5 feet to ~2 in the span of a few seconds, so I don't really see you're point.
mordinvan 1 year ago
@mordinvan yeah, because we all know how people like to set up a tripod or take the time to take it down when they can potentially get shot at...
13wraps 1 year ago
@13wraps almost a much as people like to lean on the rocket end of a RPG-7. The way the guy was treating that object was not like an armed explosive device. Also carrying around, or having someone carry a tripod is not that big a deal, so long as you keep your paws on the camera equipment you get to keep your photo's.
mordinvan 1 year ago
@13wraps But riddle me this, why would a group of 12 insurgents all sneak up to a corner to attack, when at best 2-3 of them armed? Seems like a pretty shitty plan to me.
mordinvan 1 year ago
@mordinvan so that when they die they can pick up the weapons they dropped. thats prolly why th freakin journalists were there in the first place so after the weapons were picked up they culd be like "OH TEH GEEZ LOOK AT TEH 'INNOCENTS' THEY KILLED"
13wraps 1 year ago
@13wraps Considering how common and cheep AK's are, that they would not see fit to equip each person with one instead of your whole waiting for the person to die so they could use them scenario, I find the be grasping at straws.
mordinvan 1 year ago
@mordinvan -.- aks are not cheap. especially if you're giving it to someone just so they can use it once befor they die. i dont know where you got that one from. also, i didnt mean so the other person could use it, i meant so that it appeared as if there were no weapons to begin with.
speaking of grasping at straws, your terrorist defense is kind of moot. y'know, seeing as how they found aks and rpgs when they arrived at the site.
13wraps 1 year ago
@WinstonSmith46 I know exactly the part of the video you are talking about. Where you see the guy crouched down from the corner of the building with a black cylindrical object that is held up near his face. THAT IS THE TELESCOPIC CAMERA LENS I AM REFERRING TOO. I can tell it's a lens because it has a larger circumference at the lens end than at the end that connects it to the camera.
aussielung 1 year ago
@WinstonSmith46 You don't know they where insurgents. They could have been a convoy of guides there to protect the photographers. From that distance neither you nor the pilots can tell the difference. Thats why my qualm is with the shooting of the van. From the 17min and the 40min video I see no evidence that the van was a threat and therefor at that moment the pilots broke the rules of engagement.
aussielung 1 year ago
@WinstonSmith46 I see one AK47 and one telescopic camera lens and two cameras on shoulder straps. Just because there where militants in the area there is no reason for these guys to have died. By saying "well, there where bad people in the area" does not justify the deaths of the innocent that where there. When are idiots like you going to get that through your think skulls. You can't justify an innocent persons death not matter what spin you put on it.

War is a crime.
rockstarofredondo 1 year ago
Looks like a gun and a RPG to me... I heard there was only one gun found at the scene though. (TYT) Bottom line, the initial attack on the entire group is debatable... The attack on the people in the van trying to help was uncalled for.
Cozzmos 1 year ago
@Cozzmos
In an RPG attack group attached to irregular forces, there are usually assigned ammo carriers who may not necessarily be carrying personal weaponry.
There are some really good essays about RPG ambush groups on the net, drawn from the soviet experience in Afghanistan.
As far as I'm aware, multiple warheads were found.
cruelcruellife 1 year ago
People were killed who did/did not have it coming. If anyone thinks this isn't what happens in every war ever fought, go back to sleep. WikiLeaks, congratulations! You have re-discovered the wheel.

@slowbeetle1 i'm not sure you followed this on the news but the american government lied about certain things that happened during this event, such as saying that their were no children. That is why wikileaks leaked it because the public deserves to know the truth.

Its called WAR, media stay out of a battle zone.
greatpatriot1 1 year ago 2
@greatpatriot1 why should media stay out of a battle zone, do you not want to know what is going on.
madman3891 1 year ago
@madman3891
Legitimate media who do not want to be taken for insurgents wear non-threatening colours (blue) with a "press" logo and blood type.
In this case the "victim" is dressed in regular clothing and taking cover/concealment from the US forces which he was photographing (pictures found on his camera) which taken in the context of him being a part of an ambush group, turns him from "press" into "embedded military photographer."
cruelcruellife 1 year ago
@greatpatriot1 They are Reuters war photographers. They can't very well report or photograph the war if they are not there. Besides, as far as can be seen from the full 17 min clip they are not in an area where people are fighting. They are in a quiet part of the suburb taking photos and being escorted by locals for safety. The pilots saw a group of men holding cameras with telescoping lenses and tripods and mistook them for weapons. They should have looked closer before they opened fire.

Why didn't the helicopter target just the people will gun then??????
the guy just started blasting everybody on site including the people who try to save the wounded?/
that was a war crime

@BonesTheCat Yes and those rules preclude attacking when civilians will we killed in the attacks. This video is a clear violation of that rule.

I wouldn't call 2 non hostile, yet probably armed civilians a "debunk", they open fire a on a wounded man crawling along the ground for fucks sake.

@BonesTheCat they clearly fire on unarmed civilians, this is not a falseness or even an exaggeration. Have you even watched the full video?
PiratesVersusNinjas 1 year ago
@PiratesVersusNinjas This video - as I've explained already - is about WikiLeaks reporting of the facts. I saw the whole vid and was disturbed by it. I was particularly disturbed by the attack on the van when the wounded should've had the chance at medical attention, but that doesn't change the FACTS about WikiLeaks apparent lack of journalistic integrity regarding the circumstances surrounding this incident. They made claims that are CLEARLY not true.
No one has disputed this yet.

@PiratesVersusNinjas Yeah! The bvideo was JUST broke down! They have RPGs and AK47's. Photogs were hanging out with terrorists! Fuck them!
chwdiv25 1 year ago 2

#FAIL
MrBipana 1 year ago 7
@MrBipana This video is to highlight WikiLeaks use of "indiscriminate" and "unprovoked slaying" of "unarmed civilians" when this ISN'T true. Even you didn't disagree with that part.
The deaths of Namir Noor-Eldeen and Saeed Chmagh was tragic, was were the deaths and injuries of anyone trying to help. They didn't NEED to hit the van.
WikiLeaks THEMSELVES linked the ROE for that area at that time and clearly the van wasn't marked as an emergency vehicle.
...and "FAIL"?, what are you, ten?
BonesTheCat 1 year ago
@BonesTheCat I didn't know I would need to be cleared marked as emergency personnel to assist at a car accident I arrive at on the freeway. My mistake.
And the kids were a lot easier to identify in the video than way may have been small arms.
MrBipana 1 year ago
@BonesTheCat I'm sorry, but regardless of the photographers mistakes at not wearing press jackets you can't say that these pilots are innocent. It was an unprovoked attack on unarmed civilians because there was no provocation from the unarmed photographers. The pilots may not have known it at the time but it still does not change the fact that innocent people died that day because some hot shot pilots could not tell the difference between a camera lens and a rocket launcher.
aussielung 1 year ago
@aussielung I cannot say these pilots are innocent?. When did I say they were?. When did I say there weren't dead unarmed people?.
For the fucking 30th time, THIS VIDEO IS AIMED AT WIKILEAKS COMMENTARY ON THE INCIDENT. I MAKE NO COMMENT ON THE MILITARY ROE'S OR JUDGEMENT.
FACT. The military were taking fire near by.
FACT. Some of those men were armed.
FACT. They found weapons after searching the dead.
WIKILEAKS misrepresented the FACTS.
WIKILEAKS. Get it?.
BonesTheCat 1 year ago
@BonesTheCat
FACT: These people and the children in the van where not involved in the skirmish.
FACT: (from what I can see in the video) The people they originally target are the photographers carrying cameras and tripods.
FACT: (as far as I am aware) they found one weapon, no RPG's and a bunch of dead people that where not militants.
By ignoring these facts you subconsciously tell people that the deaths are justified.
aussielung 1 year ago
