Its a bit ironic, Anakin turned to the dark side because Palpatine was vulnerable after fighting Mace Windu and Anakin saved Palpatine.. And when Luke was vulnerable and about to die Vader saved him and turned to the light side. I don't know if Lucas planned that but that was pretty clever if he did.

@jrrrm3 Anakin's turn to the dark side was his destiny, as he was the chosen one. Basically, he had to turn to the dark side in order to complete it. Luke has a part in it. He was the catalyst, the "igniter" so to speak. They both had a part in restoring balance.

4:12 Vader for no apparent reason releases his two-handed grip on his lightsaber, grabs the railing and this allows Luke the advantage. Why did he do this? He didn't look off-balance.

Up to then, it was a pretty evenly matched fight, but this crucial move give Luke the edge to batter him again and again, and then off with his hand.

Still a brilliant scene though, music, lighting, everything.

It's true the lightsaber fights ARE better in the prequels. However, most of the characters are much weaker, most of the characters who AREN'T weak are obviously unimpressed by the director, much of the plot is weaker, and there was Jar-Jar, who (when you think about it) was the catalyst for most bad things happening in the series. Also, no Han like character; somebody relatively normal who is likable and doesn't take any of this crap seriously, while still being very useful and non-wizard.

@TheZacula I would say the fights in the original trilogy were better. In the prequels there is more stylized fighting and bigger surroundings, but none of it means anything. In Phantom Menace Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon fight Darth Maul in some huge place that has Star Wars style to it, but there's no meaning to any of it. It's just a giant room which leads to a circular room with a pit. Also, there's nothing going on with those characters other than the fight. It's just "jedis vs. the bad guy"

i disagree, i think the fight choreography in the emprie strikes back and return of the jedi is better. in each of the prequel fights i cant count numerous times where one character does a completely useless flip or turn around move that leaves them super open, and yet the other person just ignores it. real martial artists dont do flashy moves, the do effective ones. i still like the preguel fights, but these ones are more epic to me, like when luke takes down vader. to each his own tho

Not to mention that the actor in Vader's suit obviously finds it very hard to see. While the fights in the prequel trilogy DO involve a lot of flashy crap, they also appear to be aiming at each other most of the time and not AT the lightsaber. However, would I be correct in thinking the fight with Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon and Darth Maul was pretty good either way?

This was one of my fondest moments in cinematic history. The redemption of Darth Vader was much more moving and powerful climax than anything the prequels offered. There were no 5 minute cg fight scenes that spouted hollow dialogue. There were no poorly established plot devices that led to an incoherent ending. The characters grew on us, matured, and "met their destiny" in the final chapter. It's sad how something that was so epic is now a silly franchise.
