@miss19lolo I wouldn't say so, but I guess that's just my opinion. I wouldn't say he was bad or anything, either, but he had to stand in the shadows of two of the all-time greats... People are going to talk about Jimi & Mitch for years to come, but hardly anyone is going to even mention Noel Redding.
And yesterday i heard my friend saying "Its not important who were in the Hendrix experience with Jimi. They're just backroundplayers and they don't matter. Jimi is the thing". He's that kind of guy who only listens of 2 most famous song from every group he's listening to. And shit he sings always that fucking Pitbull song fuck!!!!
This is part of a live concert, the video is on YouTube somewhere but its the worst JHE performance I've ever seen. Jimi was playing subpar and noels bass was too low. Mitch stole the show
@ter50 Bonham used that in Moby Dick. It was one of his signature drumrolls, but he would do it with single bass and much smoother and more difficult movements.
@mindfreak990 Bonham did that in triplets doing varations on his set, while Mitchell did this in quadruplet with the double bass. Love them both, but Mitchell is my favourite, he set the basis of hard rock and even heavy metal drumming since the late '60 and pioneered jazz fusion too!
@ter50 Bonham did quadruplets too, with single bass. Trust me, mate, I love them both. They're my two favorite drummers, and they're both equally revolutionary in their own ways. Mitch started as a jazz drummer, which is where he developed a lot of fills and his "keep-it-close" style.
The best of all time it is as simple as that.He was everything to me a drummer should be.And he will always be my greatest inspiration.Play on Mitch.R.I.P.
The man.And to me always will be.Mitch was such a monster.I have adored his playing since i picked up my first set of sticks many years ago.He still inspires me to this day.
They, including Jimi should have let Mitch get his rocks off more. There is no doubt in my Mitch wanted to go further in his solo. The bass player should not even walked towards the drums during his solo. It is almost like he ( the bass player ) is saying " come on dude, we need to play and finish this set so I can get home to feed my cat " Even Jimi should have known this. I am sure Mitch kept it to his self after the show, but he wanted to say something to both of them...He was just starting!
@hanklove4ever,I knew, recorded and lived with Mitch in L.A.(early 80s).We built a 16 TK.studio and began.Seems strange, yet there were no offers that paid enough to cover his rent.He did join up with a "Hendrix" tribute group which I can say he wasn't eager to do..Like most I was attracted to his work with Hendrix. To my surprise he confided he would rather play pocket style,R&B and his Dream Gig was "Drummer " for the House Band with the Letterman TV Show.Miss him.Trace Harrill
few people are aware of the fact that "Manic Depression" was in 9/8 time. THIS is one of three fave Hendrix tunes of mine as well. M M was an acomplished musician -- not just a great drummer. Louis Bellison was, to the best of my knowledge, the 1st to use twins. Keith Moon replaced his Hi Hat w/ a Bass, but didn't play like rock drummers have done since the 70s. He "kept time" w/ his left foot on the bass, same as all the Jazz greats had done on the Hi Hat. Mitchell's style was a true "hybrid".
what does it matter who's betta anyway? everyone as their own opinion. for me it's Mitchell, Moon The Loon, Bonzo and Ginger. all fantastic. because they have FLARE. nowadays drummers are just background beats who have big kits for no apparent reason.
Bonzo could do it all with a 3-piece kit and ONE pedal.
Mitchell could do it all on a 6-pice kit.
Ginger can also do it on a 6-pice kit, but with many cymbals.
Keith could do it with a 20-30 piece kit. Not for any reason, but because he could.

I think Mitch has a distinguishable sound among the drummers in his era. But he often uses this sound, this style on many of the songs by the Jimi Hendrix Experience. He's not very technical but he's very aggressive like Keith Moon and he was among those who make some sort of jazz+rock fusion in drumming.
Attention Drummers/musicians!!! Get the book "realistic rock" by Carmine Appice!! If you like 60's-70's rock drumming it's the Bible. It turned my hopeless brother into a real rock guy. He would work on it every day and half way through the book and after learning the first Zeppelin record beat for beat he would go back to the jams and sound exactly like Simon Kirk of Free and Bad Company...with bonham fills to boot. It could save rock drumming im serious. Amazon.com
@Easleytee I'm pretty sure half the worlds best drummers today are technically superior to Bonzo. But I think he had a style and groove that no one can match, no matter how technically advanced they are. Just a thought.
@929DEMPSEY I agree. Bonzo is my fave hard rock drummer cause he's got almost all elements a drummer should. He's a balance of technicality and speed plus an awesome feel. Guys like Peart and Portnoy are more technical but they don't have the feel of John Henry Bonham.
I know Mitch is smileing down on us and Jamming the Heavens with Jimi and Noel. may you memory live for ever, One of the Greatest Drummers who ever Lived. Peace
@charloleptifoufou Yes, Louie Bellson had invented the double bass set up in high school. Ginger Baker was the first to use the set up in Rock music, but Mitch took it to the next level adding his new "fusion" technique, using straight rock beats intermittent with jazz fills. He's my favorite drummer.
@charloleptifoufou Watch his left foot, he isn't using the hi-hat, and you can actually see the second bass when the camera zooms out, not that I'm hating on Mitch Mitchell, him and Bonham are my two favorite drummers. And yes, Louie Bellson came up with the idea of double bass in the 40's or 50's.
my favorite song from him and jimi is bold as love and right when you think the song is gonna end he comes up with this little solo and they keep playing
@guitdude09 So no response?? Ok then..you use cheap ass Ibanez guitars.. I'll spread the word.. Everybody uses those clown guitars. No originality from you again. Or ever..
@guitdude09 Alright so I chumped your petty minded dumbass just once again...As if your ice age wood violin builders all built Stradivarius level instruments. Dumbfuck.. It had nothing to do with the wood whatso evr and the acoustic design of the resonator cavity in entirety. Just like the Ludwig shell. It had the acoustics. Actually it was made out of cheap wood but the way the edges were shapep amongst other things. Also you sound more and more like a speed freak daily.. You should quit that
@guitdude09 So what about the fuckeeeen ice age?? There still was only one stradivarius amongst all the violin builders who all had the same wood to use. Same thinmg with Ludwig in the 60's. They just happened to be the "stradivarius" of the contemporary drum builders. Stupid much???
@guitdude09 I don't know what kind of guitar you are playing in your videos. All I know is one post months ago you told me that you went out and bought an Ibanez for about 1800 bucks..So what kind of guitar do you play then?
@guitdude09 I'm just saying whatever they (Ludwig) was doing in the 60's was the best sounding drum ever IMO. And I have the best ears in the business. You don't know anything about what drums sound good. So shut your dumb mouth about it. Dig?? There's a reason why the Ludwig Supraphonic is the most recorded snare drum of all time too. And yes dumbass .. I know it's made of metal. It';s just The Ludwig genius way they design drums..but their wood ones don't compare now to the 60's ones.
@guitdude09 Whatever tree expert that knows nothing about the sound of drums!!! Whatever Ludwig was using is still unsurpassed ...Too bad they ran out of the kind of wood that the 60's had.. Or was it just stupid mangaement that decided to change the perfect manufacturing process. Regardless , drums have never sounded better than the 60's Ludwigs... Now go play with your everybody has one cheap Ibanez guitar..
Mitch Mitchell, Keith Moon, John Bonham, Ginger Baker, Carmine Appice and Neil Peart are all fantastic drummers. They all have their styles. Keith Moon followed everyone in his band's rhythms, John Bonham and Carmine Appice bashed the kit hard, Neil Peart is a very calculated drummer and Mitch and Ginger played with a sort of jazzy style: very precise, but very fast and spontaneous. So don't argue about who's better if they're all good.
Mitch and Hendrix went like hand and glove, they where part of a generation that thought it was their right to look to the future and find new ways of living, instead the Establishment slammed the door in their face. And we've been stuck in their world ever since. And if you don't know what I mean by that then your just another sucker...
Bonham's shit was all ripped off from other people, from the hand solo he stole from Joe Morello, to these quad fills Baker, Appice and Mitchell were doing long b/f Bonham.
Bonham was not that innovative, his best lick was a single stroke
Monster fucking drummer but with a double bass man, he sounds sooo muddy. He Doesn't need that Keith Moon bullshit. He was a beast on a smaller kit. Just a real monster.
Reminds me of Nick Mason's solo on, dang, one of the songs from Pompeii. Too many years ago can't remember, but I do have it on my Floyd playlist............You are correct, Mitch was in his own space and did it his way.
@beauanddustinunleash Its crazy too because the Experience was basically thrown together in a studio to hash some songs out, it's amazing he was able to come up with all that so fast
Everyone knows that to lay down great tracks like the Cream did with " Strange Brew" , Crossroads", Ulysses", White Room, etc. even a great guitarist isn't enough.
So how come Mitch Mitchell has never been giver his due credit for his stuff on "Voodoo Child" "Hey Joe" etc.
Hell, Jimi could lean on this guy during even his most way out riffs.
@8269998 I have a sad feeling it's because of Jimi's short career. I mean, I never heard from Mitch AFTER his work with HENDRIX. Ginger Baker has been in several bands post-CREAM. Hopefully I'm wrong with this theory, but still.
Seriously, he sounds like a whole marching band by himself.
Also, after watching some Elvin Jones videos I've realized how similar they are, I think I read somewhere that Mitch said he was heavily influenced by Elvin.
These guys showed us what music could be; raw un-chained, human, emotive and fucking good. You cant synthesise this shit, you've got to play it and feel it, in every god damn sinew of your body.
So much talent on display here it's unbelievale! I don't understand how people can listen to all this shit we get today when there's genuine innovators from the past that without, music just wouldn't be the same.
Mitchell was such a thunder-monkey behind the set.

Monster fucking drummer but with a double bass man, he sounds sooo muddy. He Doesn't need that Keith Moon bullshit. He was a beast on a smaller kit. Just a real monster.
bellsonrich 1 year ago
Reminds me of Nick Mason's solo on, dang, one of the songs from Pompeii. Too many years ago can't remember, but I do have it on my Floyd playlist............You are correct, Mitch was in his own space and did it his way.

Mitch Mitchell is one of the most underrated drummers ever. His work in Hey Joe is some of the finest drumming I've ever seen

@beauanddustinunleash Its crazy too because the Experience was basically thrown together in a studio to hash some songs out, it's amazing he was able to come up with all that so fast
sk8rbuoi 8 months ago
@beauanddustinunleash how the hell is he underrated? hes number 2 on the greatest drummers of all time.. i think he got credit for what he did

8269998 1 year ago
@8269998 I have a sad feeling it's because of Jimi's short career. I mean, I never heard from Mitch AFTER his work with HENDRIX. Ginger Baker has been in several bands post-CREAM. Hopefully I'm wrong with this theory, but still.

Check out the Elvin Jones 'Zachariah' bit on youtube. BOOM! Pure awesomeness.
AltroLog 1 year ago
Seriously, he sounds like a whole marching band by himself.
Also, after watching some Elvin Jones videos I've realized how similar they are, I think I read somewhere that Mitch said he was heavily influenced by Elvin.

These guys showed us what music could be; raw un-chained, human, emotive and fucking good. You cant synthesise this shit, you've got to play it and feel it, in every god damn sinew of your body.

Mitch Mitchell is OUT OF THIS WORLD on drums.
Only a handful of drummers are on his level.
When a musician attains the GENIUS of Hendrix and Mitchell, there is nobody else to compare them to.
Then it is no longer who is the best, it is merely who do u prefer.
omegapoint0 1 year ago
So much talent on display here it's unbelievale! I don't understand how people can listen to all this shit we get today when there's genuine innovators from the past that without, music just wouldn't be the same.

It's interesting: Listening to Mitch's drumming w/ Jimi (when I was a young lad) was what opened me up to Jazz. Hendrix turned me on to the blues.
