La Norma de Paris, 1965 por María Callas

  • Thanks for posting...

  • who cares about cracs or missing notes!!!!!!!! to she maria callas on stage was-is something wonderfoul!!!! even those days!!! i see this video fro norma and i cry because we have not any soprano like callas in our days and people like me can not see opera like callas version....2.09-2.20 the best scene in my opionion i cry...callas forever!!!

  • What a pathetic bullshit!!!

  • you're a fuckin ignorant without past.

  • This video is magical. To see Callas as a transfigured silouette, almost abstract, even as a mist, a whispering note, a blurred poem, a vanished godess, a distant passion, a concept, a dream. To discover that you can't discover and find what happens to be lost and finally to be dragged to the presence of the absence that'll remain evermore everlasting everyday

  • I don't think the audio corresponds to the Paris video. The voice was too good and in 1965 she had a declining voice. Anyway it's great to see her. I love callas.

  • first of all, maria never had a declining voice. she was then about fourty-two. and also, compare it to the audio recording of her her last normas, its the same thing.

  • @distefano13069609

Unfortunately this is a mistake. As much as we love Callas, her voice suffered during those years. It is documented by Zefirelli that her voice cracked on Stage. Norma was too demanding for her since she had problems blood preasure problems and her emotional life was not solid. She lost confidence and really went downhill during the mid 1960's.

  • never downhilll, the voice is not the same as many thing, so that it sounds well, you have to work , and work and work! she just decided to stay and rest on a boat!

  • She did hava a declining voice in 1965. I`ve got all her records and videos from 1949 till his tour with Distefano and the voice was sadly chanching along the years. In the Paris Normas she could hardly sing. The audio corresponds to the late fifties Norma not the sixties.

  • Callas does not need defence ! she was soprano assoluta and her star will be shining in the centuries !!! her voice penetrates our hearts and touches bottoms that no other soprano has the capability to do it . Maria is a symbol ...happy were the people who met her , unhappy all of us who have only her recordings and some videos to watch !

    Bel video grazie.

  • 1955..maybe. NOT 1965.

  • Does anyone know if this is the actual soundrack from the Paris performance?

    Her top notes sound magnificent.

  • yes, this is Paris, but the 1964 performances.

  • I dont think so.. the mezzo sounds like Eber Stignani.

  • @kgarmaker123 Indeed. This is not her last Norma in Paris in 1965. Definitely not. The video might be but the "sound track" is from a recording made in 1954 with Ebbe Stignani, Mario Filippeschi and Serafin (as conductor).

  • This music is great.

  • operacollector, operareviewer mtaventino figaronight,123 and a handful of others are one person or a small group of friends with multiplel screen names with false origins of residence etc, posting the same repetative tired comments. Besides to repeate the same thing once or twice is not too bad but to consistent on going repetition is a mental disorder.

  • It is disturbing actually! They are so much like the homophobes posting nasty comments under the clips of Brokeback Mountain. Very sad.

  • I know; it just as well could be a teenager/teenagers or petty adult/adults using Youtube to get their fun and kicks off or agressions. They should try some activities outside the home and away from the computer to refreshen their congested brains, maybe that will alleviate their consistent childlike repetitions.

  • You should tone it it down a bit or seek anger management classes or something? Because you obviously have a vendetta here from maybe past comments towards youre favorite artist or something? because Callas may have had flaws but they are surely not as bad or nearly true as you make them out to be here in youre comments or she would not be the renown diva she is,that would be insulting the opera world as a whole and i'm sure youre no top authority to make any type of change in ones status.

  • listen to something else poor bastard, of course she lost her voice but she was the best. You should kneel in front of her. cut your throat !!!!!!!!!

Irrepetible!

  • I dunno whether it's layered or not... I have all live Callas Norma recordings from the 50s except one and it doesn't sound like any of them. ( I don't have the Paris recordings yet so I can't say.) She is certainly in amazing voice, and it's great to see her on film. :)

  • May I just say that, while these audio excerpts are from a live performance, it must be either Rome 1955, or La Scala opening night 1955 (with Simionato and Del Monaco) Isn't it THRILLING? No need to pretend it was 1965, however.

  • I am confused, the tenor sounds like Mario del Monaco but i thought Franco Corelli was her Pollione, though that does sound like a young Fiorenza Cosotto...???

  • Callas sang her last Normas with Simionato & Cossotto. In the Paris Normas, Corelli was her Pollione for two performances. Her other two Polliones were Craig * Cecchele.

  • When in an interview Cossotto was asked about these performances she said that Callas was actually in pretty good form until the very last concerts.

  • I Love her moviments!!! How intenses was her arms and hands!!! She was Brilliant!!! So imagine the opera complete?!

  • It is something wrong with this recording... She akready coldn't sing like this in 1965

  • Not a layerd over with a studio recording its Callas live....

  • Is this layered over with a studio recording?

  • Thank God we have these extracts from Callas's greatest role at the end of her career. Though in extremis vocally and comfortable in only 70% of the performance, out pop those high Cs when you least expect them. BRAVA CALLAS!!!

  • Thank god we have these rare extracts from Callas's greatest role, taken at the end of her career. Although comfortable now in only 70% of the role, out pop those two high Cs in the pollonaise when you least expect them! BRAVA CALLAS!!!

  • what a lousy quality of picture!

  • stop bitching and enjoy!

  • Soberbo !

  • I always wonder how Callas sing so perfect and her acting so dramatic it cannot be compared to no other Callas my respects to you......

  • It's FANTASTIC!!!!!! Her arm movements are wicked! I wonder how she could sing so perfectly while doing all that with her body. Insane. Thank you for posting, it's so beautiful.
