K this is a bit complicated but Xero was the name of the band before they changed to Hybrid Theory and the lead singer then was Mark Wakefield. Mark left the band and they recruited Chester (who at the time was in his own band called Grey Daze). When Chester joined they changed their name to Hybrid Theory and then later on to Linkin Park.

Not true. One of the original names was Hybrid Theory (much like the title of their debut album) and there was already another band named Hybrid threatening to sue for copyright infringement. In effort to search for a new name, Cheste drove past a park in California (Lincoln Park) and discussed with the band the name would sound like a local band since many cities in the country have a Lincoln Park. Upon registering for the domain name they discovered it was taken. They respelled it Linkin Park
