  • Why all this bickering about who is the best? I've played Texas all-state choir music and every piece that I played was fantastic, but I don't know how to judge who is the best...Honestly, I really enjoyed it, but whether from NJ, NY, NM Ariz, Kentucky, I'll bet every member of every All-state group will remember the experience as one of the very best of their lives...an experience filled with learning and making new friends...these are the special 'treats' you should allow yourselves. ENJOY1!!

  • all th all-state chois are awesome, people justfeel hey have to be loyal to thier state only for some reason

  • the Texas state choir is supposedly the best in the land- and after watching their youtube video of "homeward Bound" I agree.- we in Arizona aren't known for great education or anything

  • @4FabBEATLES Calm down. We have a school in mesa, that is in the top 15 for athletics (mountain view) get your facts straight. Plus, all all-state choirs work very hard

  • Massachusettes All State better

  • I went to the 2007 Arizona All-State. Even though i was last chair(orchestra) in the violin section i did pretty good for someone who has played for less than a year and was playing with kids who played for at least 5 years with private teachers while i played twice a week with a teacher at school. It was fun though.

  • Personally all these comments about which state choir is better are pointless. All state choirs are great and should be something to be proud of participating in. I never had the skill or ability to make it that far. But I know that I love singing and that it is not something to argue over but rather something to join together. I know a local choir that just lost its choral program due to the harsh economic times. Be lucky that you can sing at all!

  • Thanks for posting this! I wasn't in the choir, but I was in attendance, and I was one of the NAU students who volunteered behind the scenes (taking groups to part-checks, filling the goody bags you found on your chairs, etc.)

I'm actually student teaching with the accompanist for this group in the fall! :)

  • I am sooo excited to get to be a part of the 2009 All-State choir this year. This will be my first and last experience with this All-State Honor Choir and I can't wait to get to sing beautiful music with so many people that have my same love of music and its internal relationship within each of us as humans. There are ppl that may be full of themselves but they are missing the whole point of this choir, it is to come together and be one voice and share a message that connect us as people.

  • Hey. You know.. I have friends in the choir in this video and I just made regionals this year and will be trying out for All-State as well, and I'd just like to say that yes, there may be some people that are full of themselves in these choirs...but there are also people who have worked for years to achieve making it into an elite choir like this. People don't realize how much time and work is put in to those auditions. So keep that in mind before you are quick to judge. :) Just a friendly note!

  • Kalinda is amazing

  • ALL of you should set aside your egos & understand that All-State is an inspiring educational experience for high school music students. Kids auditioned so they may have the privilege of learning music at a more advanced level.

I was in this All-State Choir. My best friends too & I got a chance to perform awesome challenging stuff w/ other cool people my age who took music seriously!

Let's just enjoy this music together. And no one is better than the other with the exception of Jesus Christ. :)

  • why are poepl sitting?

  • Comment removed

  • To be honest, 99% of Arizona all-state choir people are full of themselves, and are way over credited because they score high in the sight reading portion of auditions, pushing out those who are far better singers, but who have difficulty sight reading.

  • Okay, 99% of ALL All-State choir members are full of themselves. That just goes with being in All-State.

And anyway, we all know that Iowa has the best All-State Choir in America. :-)

  • wow, thats pretty ignorant of you to say. i'm in kentcuky's all state choir and im not full of my self at all

  • 99%, not 100%

There are a lot of choir members who know exactly where to draw the line, but the majority really do tend to be a-holes.

I try to keep my feet on the ground, though, too.

  • ohhh em eff gee wow. I cant believe you have this up there! I was definitely in this choir! Up in Flagstaff. WOW. Amazing time and memories. I wish i were back in choir. =[.

  • OK guys I put that comment on here b/c I was tired of some Texans talking all of this nonsense about TX All-State,..I friends from TX that are really good.

Some of them could've easily made AR All-State and any other.

Demographically, TX and CAli are the biggest states ,..so of course you're gonna do literature that would be more difficult than other states,..there are WAY more students there trying to make than here or anywhere else.

  • Awwh. I was an alternate for this choir.

  • ...i know there isnt a video post of them but trust me they are amazing to hear and they are great...all the time i hear that conductors tell them that they have never been with such a amazing group of youing singers all the time...

but i promise that i will put the video recording of the NEW MEXICO ALL STATE OF SOME YEARS...but can anybody tell me how i can put the CD recording on You-Tube bc i cant seem to figure it out...

  • I can't believe they let this choir sit down during there performance.

  • i have to disagree...the New Mexico All State Choirs are pretty good...im not sure if you heard about the All State High School ranks but New Mexico is been on the spot of 4 to 6

  • Hi! What website or what ever would i go to to find out about the All-State ranks!? Please write back,..Thanks :)!!

  • I have to applaude this All-State choir because its the ONLY one other than Texas that sounds mature! it didnt kill me to listen to it! i think it was very good!

  • Which All-State choirs have you had the displeasure of listening to?

All of these songs that Dr. Jo-Michel Scheibe programed and conducted for this choir has been done by half the States in the US.

I've been doing my research, too!

Half,..(if not all) of the music that TX has done in the past 5/6 yrs,..has been done at other All-State choirs those same years.

Those clinicians are just doing your all-state, so please stop thinking that TX is special! THANKS!!

  • Um im guessing that you read those nasty comments! i wasnt on the computer when i wrote those someone else did, and i was quick to get back on and say i was sorry for what that person said about the other all-state choirs! so im sorry if you felt that i was dissing so all-state choirs! but you know that there are some that dont have the sound quality and dynamics as other choirs do! you know this and so do i! thanks

  • Grow up, will ya?

I am a choral conductor of 20 years experience. I have forgotten more than you will ever know about music.

I have heard all states all over the country. They are all in general very good.

Kentucky has the most under rated-they have been fantastic everytime I have heard them.

Texas has the most over rated-they don't sound mature. They sound affected because they try to sound mature, when no high school group should.

Stop critisizing others to make yourself feel good.

  • have you heard louisiana all-state

  • *Attention all Texas All-Staters*,.....Y'ALL ARE NOT THE BEST!!!

I will admit that you have a very mature sound, but most of you wouldn't last a day anywhere else. There is like two million of you that tryout and most of you have voice instructors and all of this OUTSIDE help. On top of all of that, you have to go through like two/three different rounds to get to All-State and MOST of you only make it ONCE!!!!

SO please quit trying to make everyone feel inferior because you're from Texas!

  • I made it 4 years mixed in a row and yes we have a mature sound because we actually invest in our voices teachers, camps, and the whole nine yards

  • I think this All State group is great but I was in the NJ all state choir and I think we had a much better sound then this.

  • I dont know about Texas being the best, but yes its better than this considering this choir has more ppl in the choir aswell

  • One Word. TMEA

  • Also to add its far more competitive in texas than most others because of how many students try out and start the process

  • THIS CHOIR WAS THE BEST EVER! I was in it! I was a tenor! probably the best section ever! Go Tycho23 for puttin this up! thanks a bunch!

  • pshhh, Texas all state is 2nd to none so ....... just search TMEA 2008 and look for the choirs... we own all!!

  • fuck you texas, here we go again, stop putting down other all states

  • listening to recordings from other states texas is the best when its comes to all-state choir and as far as audition material we choose the most difficult.

  • trry auditioning in NY, where we have to sing opera, lieder or classical pieces to make it, not just our part in a choral score.

  • Um i have heard the NY choir and its nothing to rant and rave about

  • im not even gonna respond, you Texas people can just go on putting down other all states and showing your true Texas class, the rest of us from our inferior to Texas states will just continue to suck with our all state choirs, bands and orchestras, have some class and stop making your state and school programs look like absolute classless shit

  • to read what my friend wrote. I was actually in the Virgina Choir before i was in TMEA. I enjoyed both of them very much and they were VERY different. If every state sounded the same it would be boring and i believe that each state has something different to offer musically! Again i want to say i am sorry that you had to read those nasty comments that i didnt even write. and i do agree with you that texans can be snobs! so if you know any NY choir or band postings let me know! thanks!

  • idk. Some of the music i did at my regional concert was harder than most of the stuff i just heard. So dont go saying things to quickly. we also did sleep at my regionals concert. but we did the Mid-Winter Songs by Morten Lauridsen. and that was the audition music and it was hard music

  • try the psalm of david by dello joio and just to name a few there are plenty of more that we did that were a lot difficult TEXAS IS THE BEST OF THE FIFTY NIFTY UNITED STATES LOL

  • I know right! i dont know where that guy comes from saying that TEXAS isnt all that! Ummmmm news flash, if TMEA Mixed Choir, Mens Choir and Womens Choir went head to head in compitiion we would KICK there ASS and they know this!

  • this argument shouldnt even be happening, this is a bunch of BS!! People like you have to come in and be all pompous and shit and whenever there is an all state video on youtube, there is always some asshole from Texas who comes in and starts a fight, STOP!!! Why dont you have some respect, the kids in other states work as hard as you people do in texas to make their all state and as a former member of NY's All State Choir and Band, I can say every all state i've heard is a good one

  • I aplogize for what my friend said on here! i had left the room and i came back too see what he wrote and i was pissed off! I really didnt a chance too make a real comment on this choir, but now that i had a chance to listen to it i think that Arizona is AWESOME! I didnt make that NASTY comment about TMEA kicking everyones ASS. That was my TACKY friend that posted that. I havent had the chance to listen to the NY Choir or Band but i would like too! im just so sorry that you and everyone else had

  • thank you, im glad that you see things the way I see them, to make any all state choir, band or orchestra is a big accomplishment, I will try and get some NYSSMA stuff up here for ya

  • go arizona all-state!! i'm in arizona right now visiting but i was in the Louisiana All-state choir back home

  • Michigan All State Choir was way better!!

  • were you in it?

  • OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember Ov'e Lass from Arkansas All-State my sophomore year(02-03)!!!!! I love that song!!! We did the SSAA version of Alleluia last year. Good Job!!!!

  • nicely done! but i must say, it's all about CA all-state =) jpjp

  • ya this all state choir is fairly good compared to some.

  • what other choirs aren't as good or even better than this group?

  • Oh, if you didn't notice...

You just watched a video that has been played over 2,000 times...

    ;D

  • just because a video is played over 2000 times doesnt make the choir the best in the us. its like saying the most popular band in the world is the one who sells the most records, even though that band probably sucks. Not saying this sucks, its awesome but thats stupid to say

  • alabama all state was amazing they have a good dorecter

  • I remember my Oklahoma All State.. Ahhhh, good times! xD

  • Ok, I think it's time to confess...

The info on "A Dream of A Blessed Spirit" is wrong...

William Butler Yeats wrote the Poem "A Dream of a Blessed Spirit", not the score...

I'll get back with the name of the real composer...

    Soon...

    ;P

  • Arizona's Regional and All-State Choirs, Bands, and Orchestras are icredible! They rival even professionals at times!

  • YEAH! 1,000 and three views as of today!!! Thanks for your support everyone...!

  • I was in the MO All-State Choir for two years and I have to say that you guys are freaking good...not to brag because we sounded about the same way but that Timor et Tremor piece sounded really cool.

  • I like comparing the different all-state choirs. Some are embarrassing. Some are better than most graduate choirs in their state. This was one of the better ones. Any idea who the clinician was?

  • Jo-Michael Scheibe : )

  • =]]] He directed our Iowa All State in 2005.

I was lucky enough to be in the choir that year.

    That man was a blast.

  • cool, i have the CD of this. i was in the band. i posted a video of one of our songs...

  • who was the conga player in Alleluia?

  • Now that's what I call an awesome choir. All state was hella fun. :]

  • and to add to this jealousy that Slink12345 startedm I'm jealous you guys got to sing Sleep, I love that piece and Kalinda too, that song is so awesome

  • agreed ^_^

  • Good Job!!!! I should have auditioned when I lived in Tucson!!!....I lived in tucson since kindergarten, then my sophmore year, I found out I had a good voice. I was still new to it... Then I moved to Oklahoma during my Junior year, and made All-District and All State Choir...But yeah, Im jelous that you got to sing Timor et Tremor!!!!

  • There were too many people for the risers, so we had some sit on chairs infront of everyone...

  • who are those people sitting on the stage?

  • oh ok, thanx

  • Nope it's Jo-Michael Scheibe. I was in the choir, too, but i'm commenting on my little brother's page.

  • little brother? daniel. YOUR AN ONLY CHILD!

  • i mean youngest :P

  • oh nvm. hi bryan

  • who is the conductor, is that Mack Wilberg
