Well Coverdale is no Plant, but Jimmy is fucking JIMMY.
I've got nothing against Coverdale but I just prefer Plant in my Zeppelin. Robert wrote a lot of those songs, so his talent went beyond just a frontman for a band. Also, Coverdale's voice tends to sound very scratchy when I belts out some lines, which is clearly inferior to Plant. But like I said, I've got nothin against him, Jimmy had to move on when Plant didn't want to work with him, so......whatareyagonnado?
Sorry, Coverdale's vocals are better in this version than Plant's on Song Remains the Same which was Plant's total hay day. Wow, he friggin nailed it !
@alan989100 they're wrong! coverdale is a much better singer than plant. even here, in the 90s, he has a far better voice than plant had in the early 70s.
At last, the Osaka bootleg video - long the PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE of heavy rock - is on YouTube. It's no wonder Page kiboshed the parnership shortly after this (and well before he could embarrass himself to Euro & American audiences), given the hilarious rock'n'roll asshole antics of Coverdale. Late in the show, you get to see Coverdale drop his mike on the floor while his 'singing' continues to come over the PA!
PS: hey Dave, Jerry Seinfeld called: he wants his puffy pirate shirt back.
you really can hear how much John Bonhamn added it sounds like he's playin w/ a drum machine could be just bad sound and a good drummer but Bonhamn played so hard he didnt require a lot of micking
@Seinamursu Seriously?! That's not like humble Mr. Pagey to blow his own horn. Morrissey is the only pop star vain and tacky enough to wear his own concert t-shirts.
@HuntersMoon73 No offense, but MANY artists/bands wear their own shirts on stage. Try paying attention sometime. Everyone from KISS to Posion to GnR to even your mighty ROLLING STONES. They all have done it at some point or another in their careers. And quite honestly, WHO GIVES A SHIT????
I just love Led Zeppelin too much to say anything against them, but damn man what fuck is covardale singing, holy shit man, and as usual Page just fucking rules playing guitar, oh boy.
@MsPiotto What's your point?? Looks completely irrelevant... They wrote a brilliant album together (coverdale/page) and coverdale is not expected to cover zeppelin, it's not like he lacks material, but he's got the respect to do it and, man, how he does it... Plant never sang the melody line like that live ever, even in the 70s and that's 1993!!
plant at any age was not a good live singer...he was and will always be a studio generated voice...coverdale, chris robinson and quite a few others do a better live plant than plant himself
I must admit that of course Coverdale at this age has a more powerful voice than Robert Plant at the same Age, BUT Coverdale distorts the song in a terrible way! Moreover, you can feel that self-satisfaction, which I don't really appreciate during the whole performance.
Whatever you say, Coverdale will never do better than Plant did.
(we might underline also because Plant did it first.)
I saw Page Plant twice. After watching this video I wish Page would call Coverdale and Jones to do Zeppelin again. Plant is too busy with that slow crap he is recording and digging that cool chick that sings bluegrass...
@trinitario99 Yea Jimmy Page should make it with David Coverdale!!! If not DC than maybe Steven Tyler or Chris Cornell. Those guys are the best in this kind of music.
@black16v Plant sang well live Coverdale just listen to Kashmir by led Zeppelin then listen to Coverdale page singing it but Coverdale did sing good live.
Yeah, but this video is old too I think Coverdale Page were late 80's early 90's but Coverdale was always a Plant clone, go back (video of Led Zepp in early 60's playing dazed and confused) and listen, Coverdale could NEVER match that Plant EVER. Coverdale is an awesome singer though.
Well of course this was better than anything recently with Plant......Plant hasn't been able to hit any of these types of high notes since the early 80's. Just look at a vid of the Atlantic Records anniversary show in 1988 or so......his high register was GONE even back then, much less now.
I think that's one of the reasons Plant hated Coverdale so much....David still had those high notes.
Now, Coverdale can't come close to this high range you see here these days, either.
@z1inspector Regardless, Plant still couldn't come close to his old high register that he hasn't had since the 80's, and some say even the 70's. Sure, he still sounds like Robert Plant, but it's Robert Plant minus any high notes of old. Honestly, he sounds totally different than he did years ago...no singer keeps his entire range up to their 60's, but Plant has had more of a loss of it than most. Elton John probably the worst case I can think of..used to be a tenor, now almost a baritone.
@Pacfanweb yea well plant has lost alot /& he doesnt deny that BUT HE is more than justa voice
JUST LOOK AT WHAT HES WROTE ! thats enough to praised for 4ever / & he did pretty dam good enough at the reunion show THAT EVERY1 WAS VERY HAPPY ! cant ask for much more than that
Everyone was happy because Led Zeppelin was playing live again. Didn't matter how he sounded. He's Robert Plant. I agree, that's enough...I'd damn sure go see them if he ever gets off his duff and does a tour with LZ again.
another person who's voice has aged well in my opinion is Ian Gillan's ....he cant hit notes as high as he could back in the days..but he sounds terrific!!
Coverdale Page album was awesome, but almost the whole world was interested in Nirvana things and the rest of the music was underrated. That was a shame!
@KiMonostereo ehhh its one thing to not like his music(i don't too haha) but its rather another to disrespect a human being that much =\ chill out man
@GoodGuitarSolos Seriously? Rape meeee rape meeeee sounds like shit on heroine. I can't believe anyone actually likes that. Nor can i believe that anyone can think Nirvana as talented as they clearly raped the fuck out of everything called music. Call me teenager i don't mind. Nirvana still killed the rock n roll music industry.
@Chazorvigg It is funny that guys like you always present the same arguements, that suck.
Sorry but Nirvana saved the rock music. Glam metal was awesome at first but thousands of similar bands with the same hooks and looks just drained away everything. Nirvana swept them away and saved the rock music with that. You may be one of those bitter glam metal fanboys but that is the fact. Shame if you are too ignorant to accept it as that.
@GoodGuitarSolos Todays rock bands are Green Day and Linkin Park, how can you possibly think they saved music? They lowered the standards for everyone? My arguments are fairly reasonable, listening to nirvana is boring and somewhat uninteresting, Cobain is singing and playing like he never had any training at all. And I don't know whether or not you know how to discuss but attacking me isn't gonna make you look anywhere more intelligent. And you seem to be uninformed in the history of rock.
Green Day and Linkin Park have both made some really good music, you just need to dig deeper to understand it. Bands like BrokeNCYDE, now that is bad music.
Nirvana brought some uniqueness to the music again. Early 90's were some of the finest music ever: you could listen to Coverdale/Page, you could listen to fantastic rap music (90's hip hop was really good), you could listen to grunge, you could listen to house or anything. Shame that those years are gone.
@GoodGuitarSolos You are correct, and in my opinion Soundgarden was just as big of an effect as Nirvana was far as influence goes. Cornell is still making amazing music. Vedder is still making amazing music. Smashing Pumpkins still experimenting amazing. The Foo Fighters are more similar to classic rock than old music. Kings of Leon is very simple music, but they sound like classic rock at least. Dig deeper find experimental bands around now like Espers, Porcupine Tree, RPWL and plenty more.
Coverdale is the God here. And Plant just couldn't hold a candle in 94 to DC he just can't scream that much. Carmassi, Tuggle and Pratt played those songs a lot harder than Plant's guys on the Plant & Page tour as well. Jimmy played his guts out on this tour and album. On No Quarter he was good as well but on Walking Into Clarksdale he was a bit soulless IMO.
I get the reason why die hard Zeppelin fans are irked by these two being together for this album. I'm a big Zeppelin fan myself, but you can't deny that Coverdale's voice sounds AMAZING, and that his voice has aged MUCH better than Plant's. Coverdale still has all the power, guts and range in his voice. Plant's voice has sadly gotten very tired sounding over the years.
@clayopalstar It rocked even harder than the Led Zeppelin version from The Song Remains The Same! Seems like Coverdale could reach the high notes better at 42 than Plant could at 25.
@ChasNDaveVideos are u deaf or something???coverdale is a damn great singer..but listen to this carefully..he doesnt reach some of the very high notes like plant did in TSRTS....he can reach but cant control or sustain the note....ex.1.26...and TSRTS version is like 10000 times better than this..
@mulholland1985 i don´t think so... plant´s voice was weaker in that concert (mainly at the beginning of the song). I know that because i have the original version. You must be talking about the remastered version.
I like Plant, but you are wrong... look for real versions of Led Zeppelin´s concerts and you will note the difference (i removed the band from my eyes and i wasn´t a blind man anymore).
