But in any case, while it was clearly inspired by an amazing well-known sound sculpture, we make the Halo with our own processes, which no one else uses. These give the Halo its own unique timbre, feel, material, and geometry.
Having 2 extra notes doesn't stop you from using the simpler, more predictable pentatonic scale - just leave them out if that's what you are going for. In fact you can find 3 pentatonic scales on the halo.
There are other recording and playing-style factors to consider also.
All 3 of my hanghang have drifted uniformly sharp over the last few years. They are still in tune with my other instruments but it is clear that they have drifted and will one day need retuning. I adore my hanghang and am so grateful to have them. Congrats to Kyle & Jim for birthing the Halo! Looks and sounds most promising.
Major issue I see is that for people outside the US it won't do, as the drum requires retuning on a yearly basis. Better stick with the caisa drum for european musicians then ... Still this is a very nice achievement !
Well I owned a low Hang a couple of years ago (and sold it back, a huge mistake) and did not notice any change in the tuning, even if I played it intensively, carried it in the street. But I suppose that, with time, it will need some maintenance, it seems all steelpans do, and most music instruments require some maintenance during their life.
The yearly tuning is an option at time of purchase. It is not a requirement. It is in place to keep the HALO at its tip top condition. All pans whether it's a Hang, HALO, steel pan, etc go out of tune. We witnessed a new Integral Hang recently that was out of tune. Again, the yearly tuning is only an option and not a requirement. Thank you :) HALO admin
theres a link u must go on through pantheon steels web site and u have to put your name onto a list, you will see where to go on the site, priced at $1500
In regards to the comment below. I dont think this surpasses the Hang at all.
Ok I must admit it looks great, sounds great, and I definatly want one! :-) But the Hang has a romantic history connected to it, and lets be fair the Halo was born from the Hang at the end of the day.
What I like about the Halo is hopefully (fingers crossed) it will be easier to get one, as purchasing my Hang was tricky. And the possibilities are endless in ragards to pitches, and design.
great job, but honestly, doesn't this soundalot more metalic or tinny than the original hang hang? the original hang has a warmer tone, especially the bass note, it may be my crappy computer speakers, and i agree it has a comparable sound to the hang so great job and effort no dought, i'm sure these are gonna sell very well
are you selling these at all?
your website seems to be down

We are indeed making and selling these, but there is a wait-list process to get one; see our website for more info. It should be up. :)

There's no patent to buy, actually!

Do you own or can you get a Hang?

So much for the exclusivity of the HANG!!
The sound is really awesome!!
About the size of your HandPan....I thought everything is bigger in America :)))

I spotted that also. DO Hang drums need to be retuned every year ?

a panart hang dont need a regular yearly tuning. a lot of players play hang for years and the hang is still in tune
