There was a provision in the ceasefire, that hamas agreed to, that Israel had the right to fire upon any immediate threat to them. They did this a couple times during the ceasefire. The first time they struck a tunnel that was being dug into Israel. There were secondary explosions, indicating that there was weaponry within the tunnels. Gaza responded with a barrage of rockets that kept up for the entirety of the ceasefire.

And the low number of chidren vs Hamas fighters shows that Israel is trying to avoid civilians. I have read that the number of children has risen to 1/3 of the casualties. But that still is less than the percentage of the population that they make up.
