I am sorry, but I've been a professional Latin percussionist all my life. This has NOTHING to do with bongos. Bongos are a Cuban instrument that stems, most likely (though not definitely) from the Bonko Echemi (a religious instrument used in Abakua religious ceremonies). The actual bongos as we know it today is a secular instrument used in various Afro-Cuban, and now, world music styles. None of those styles are played the way you described. You are inventing. I'm sorry.

Yeah saint, after seeing some of the other great bongo tutorials on this site I understand the point you are making. But when I bought my first bongos 15 years ago I made the mistake of trying to do too much to soon and ended up smashing them to bits in frustration. If I'd seen this video back then I would have thought "Hey, I'm a genius!" and wouldn't have had to stump up another weeks wages for a new set. Lol!

look up a lesson on playing the "martillo' pattern. it's the basis for a lot of latin music, and it can be morphed and applied to other genres easily as well. enjoy!

After finding myself with a new Bongo set, I soon realized thatI could bang on em all I want and in the end I'd have no knowledge og the theory.

This video at least gave me a visual on what the fundamentals were actually supposed to look like.

Now if I could just find a video on what playing the various rhythms looks like...
