The Origami UMPCs were introduced to the public in 2006 - so I suspect early in the year of 2006 was when this video was shut. Side note The entire Origami project has practically failed and pretty much abandoned by Microsoft at this point. Microsoft specs to OEMs were the devices to sell for $500 or less. OEMs sold them for over $1000. That plus lack of advertisement from OEMs and Microsoft killed these devices before they ever had a real chance to get a start.
this looks cool and everything ,but what I'm waiting for microsoft to develop is something along the lines of psp and nintendo ds ,this is more of ur palm pilot/blackberry/pda type thing ....i wanna see something that has games made specifically for it....or does anyone know that microsoft is working on it ? ....or is this just their sorry attempt to do so b/c this is definatley not going to be affordable for someone looking for a hand held gaming system like psp or ds is.
it looks bulky like a giant Sega Gamegear. The thumb keyboard thing looks interesting, but i dunno if this will lift off. I like the keyboard thing, there trying to be creative...but i think it needs to go back to drawing board.
CaptMonkey, I think you make a good point. I switched to the Mac this year, but I need a PC for some apps. Something this size would work, but not for a grand. The specs are not worthwhile, so I'd be paying for the novelty.
These UMPC look neat, but I'm still not entirely sure what market they're trying to corner. PDAs? Laptops? I fear it'll die unless someone makes clear what I can do with it that I can't do with something that I already have.
You are walking down the street with a friend who mentions a website or has a phone number, or you need a memo/text file or whatever that you wrote at work. You pull something that's practically already "on", the size of a trade paperback out of a pocket or bag, and keep walking and keep talking. I don't stop, look for a place to sit down, open a laptop bag, wait 2 or 3 minutes for it to boot. etc.
Here is the proof Apple wasn't the first revolutionizing with their PDA called iPad

I think they want to use as a remote terminal of the 'mainframe' the future PC that control you media center & maybe your own home.
The con so far is the battery, they only last 2 hours at most, and that totally sux if you want to use it all the time...

They're trying to create a new market. Personal broadband, that sort of buzz.
