If god was real, he would be a complete asshole. Look at all of the starving children in Africa. He put them on this planet to torture them? Sure doesn't seem nice to me. Think back to the Holocaust. Jew's were very religious people that worshiped god, and they were brutally massacred. Some people may say that he doesn't help the needy because he does not want to interfere with us. So if you are called a Jesus freak negatively you should be happy because you are being persecuted for your faith and God will label you as blessed. So BE PROUD TO BE A JESUS FREAK!
I love Toby Mac, but I think that there was to much put into the show, than the song itself. Jesus Freak is a very powerful song, and I think they didn't say a lot of the important words. I'm all for having fun and the jumping and dancing and screaming before the Lord, but make sure that it is before the Lord and not just for a rush or hype, then go home forget what you were dancing, etc. about.

@christawnabryant i agree. i think these star christian performers are very tempted to take their eyes of Jesus. To get caught up with popularity or record sales or concert attendance or the show for the show's sake. It's good for us, i think, to be wise and discerning as to what a performer's motives are. Jesus WAS a freak (in a good way). We should be freaks, just like he was. Even though Tobymac is 46 years old, he has the energy of a 26 year old. He isn't afraid to pray at his concerts, write a song for his wife ('Hold On'), or do things that most artists don't do (although there are a few). His dad is my family's realtor, and he is proud to say that his son, Toby McKeehan, is a Jesus freak.

@spectralblue really? if you don't think Jesus was unconventional you haven't read everything in the bible in that small section called the old testament. Jesus preached love, the old testament God was an angry hurtful keep in line or i will smite you God. Ask a Jew. in that context Love was the most unconventional thing you could preach.

He was actually returning to the old ways. What was unconventional were the Pharisees who turned Christianity into essentially paganism. They earned high profits from it by selling sacrificial animals outside the temple which can only be bought with temple money. They prayed repeatedly in public like pagans. When he preached, he was telling people not to do this.

Come on. Jesus Freak? The Bible never glorifies anyone but God. Christian songs should be the same. A Christian life is about putting yourself down and putting Jesus up. That's all it ever is. Unfortunately, TobyMac glorifies himself. Putting in "Jesus" in a song does not make it Christian. A mosh pit does not glorify God. A rock concert is nothing more than idolatry to an artist. @spectralblue Musicians have bills to pay too, believe it or not. With piracy being what it is, it's hard to make much money being a musician. There aren't many musicians out there who become rich from what they do. If a musician were to perform free concerts and give away free albums, they wouldn't have enough money to pay for essentials.

I love Toby Mac, but I think that there was to much put into the show, than the song itself. Jesus Freak is a very powerful song, and I think they didn't say a lot of the important words. I'm all for having fun and the jumping and dancing and screaming before the Lord, but make sure that it is before the Lord and not just for a rush or hype, then go home forget what you were dancing, etc. about.

To get caught up with popularity or record sales or concert attendance or the show for the show's sake. It's good for us, i think, to be wise and discerning as to what a performer's motives are. One of the reasons i like tobymac is he always gives glory to Jesus every show.

1 Crth. 6:15 "...What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?"
T.M. and crew seem to have a lot in common with "unbelievers" (appearance etc)

Jesus WAS a freak (in a good way). We should be freaks, just like he was. Even though Tobymac is 46 years old, he has the energy of a 26 year old. He isn't afraid to pray at his concerts, write a song for his wife ('Hold On'), or do things that most artists don't do (although there are a few). His dad is my family's realtor, and he is proud to say that his son, Toby McKeehan, is a Jesus freak.

Hey man, if this isn't your version of evangelism then don't hate. God gives us so many different ways to praise and worship and bring others in that even something like this, which you apparently detest, has a use. This song is biblically sound. Where in the song does it use inapropriate language? What negative stereotype does this prove? This music could be used to catch a non-believers interest and then more of the Gospel could be spread to them. What's so wrong with that?

It never says that you must stick to one way of reaching out. It also tells us that God wants us to praise HIM for everything. DC Talk when they wrote this song i'm sure fully meant to Glorify God, playing it in front of a crowd doesn't make it any less Christian than does preaching to a crowd.
Music can build faith just as much as words can, music touches the soul in a way that often words can not.

@conteria Yes you are mistaken. Jesus was not unconventional, if He was, you're telling me that God changes from the OT to the NT.
He was actually returning to the old ways. What was unconventional were the Pharisees who turned Christianity into essentially paganism. They earned high profits from it by selling sacrificial animals outside the temple which can only be bought with temple money. They prayed repeatedly in public like pagans. When he preached, he was telling people not to do this.

Last time that happened, a false christian religion spread through the world, and true christians went into hiding. It's not until the reformation (after hundreds of years) that the light shone brightly again. You think worldy music is biblical? Come on. Jesus Freak? The Bible never glorifies anyone but God. Christian songs should be the same. A Christian life is about putting yourself down and putting Jesus up. That's all it ever is. Unfortunately, TobyMac glorifies himself. Putting in "Jesus" in a song does not make it Christian. A mosh pit does not glorify God. A rock concert is nothing more than idolatry to an artist. God gave us the ability to express him in many ways. Btw freak is an appropraite word for this matter. A "Jesus Freak" is a person who loves Jesus so much that he or she is a freak about him. Also I went to TobyMac's concert and he read a couple of verses from Romans. Don't judge TobyMac unless you know what he does in private,

Look, if I wasn't a faithful servant to God, I wouldn't follow his laws, I wouldn't praise him, I wouldn't worship him, I wouldn't even put a foot in church. But you know what? @spectralblue And honestly, there will always be people who don't get what was intended for them to get from a concert or song. What gives you the authority to assume that no one went to experience what God is going to do at these concerts? It doesn't matter if it's a great evangelist or a popular Christian singer, because someone in the crowd is going to not be there for God. Just the nature of the beast. Trust me, it's discouraging sometimes when I get onstage with a worship band.

@garagebandexplosions let me go to my last point. Did Jesus EVER charge to preach? Did Jesus need crazy lights, glowing t-shirts, electric guitars to further the word? You do know what He says about money right? Love not the things in the world! What did he say to the rich man? Throw it all away and follow Him! Be not worldly!
You know how much money is wasted here instead of helping people? Even more important, do you know HOW MUCH doesn't go to charity and how much (execs, tobymac)they keep?

@spectralblue Musicians have bills to pay too, believe it or not. With piracy being what it is, it's hard to make much money being a musician. There aren't many musicians out there who become rich from what they do. If a musician were to perform free concerts and give away free albums, they wouldn't have enough money to pay for essentials.

@spectralblue my friend what you are doing is not Biblical. Did not Jesus say not to judge others? That is exactly what you're doing here. Read 2 Samuel 6:16-23. In this passage Michal is judging David because she does not agree with David's form of worship and God punished her for it. this is exactly what your doing here. And Toby Mac does not make that much cash. And you know what he did with the money he did make? He adopted two boys from a life of poverty!

@spectralblue tobymac is the most normal, godly man i have met. he just happens to be an amazing artist that glorifies god through it. he has his type of music and you have yours. but, just read the lyrics. and don't listen to him sing. it will change the entire way you think of him. it changed mine.

If David could dance through the streets of Jerusalem naked and praise God, why can't we rock out. We sing a new song, a fresh worship. Not one born of tradition, but one from our hearts, one that not only praises the Father, but also witnesses to our generation, one that can reach the lost and bring them back to the Father.

To me everything that involved from a big bang is just plain ridiculous. For life to have existed out of big bang, the chance was 1 out of 1 billions of zeros after it. So, for me, I think it's plain impossible for life to be created Without God.
