  • Shani Wallis is the best Nancy by far (=

  • Ever since seeing Jessie Wallace as Marie Lloyd in a bbc drama I have thought she would be perfect as Nancy. Though she may be getting on a bit now. Nancy is only meant to be about 17 in the novel.

  • She looks a bit like Steve McDonalds wife from Corrie :)

  • One of my favorite songs

  • Why is everyone moaning, I don't think people understand that this wasn't a production of Oliver!, it was a TV show celebrating the movie/stage show with soap stars playing the leads. It wasn't meant to be massive and professional, it was a laugh. Get over yourselfs, just because you've seen a few shows does not mean that you know everything about theatre and the way things SHOULD be done!

  • the only thing that annoyed about this, and many performances is that in the film and musical it's pernounced Um-pah-pah. Not this performance is anywhere near close to them.

  • h8 suranne jones - stick with ruthie!

  • One of my favorite songs from Oliver! besides Food, Glorious Food, Got to Picket Or Two, Consider Yourself, Where Is Love....

  • i think that is the udersude of the show on the west end

  • oom pah pah mow mow!!!

  • from a musical standpoint is i think it's well done.

  • horrible. first. they r all dressed like theier fancy "high class" their not! second. like two of them act drunk... this is crap

  • @musicalbabe27

actually they kind of look middle low class... Especially the gentlemen

  • i apologize, my friend made that comment, i know they were pretty good, it looked fine

  • The one with the black beard and hat??? No, thats meant to be Bill Sykes. Im pretty sure Percy wasnt in the scene with this song......Percy isnt normally even in the plays/musicals/movies. He is a character they cut out, and is only in the books. Though I wish he was in the musicals. His character adds so much more to the story.

  • Ummm Bill Sykes wouldnt have danced.....that is so out of character.....

  • Mabye if he was VERY drunk but yeah, your right, bad guys usually don't dance.

  • @DyingWithoutYourLove Very, very true. After all he is a theiving, woman beating, prostitute hiring murder who at that point in the play should be worrying about being hanged not dancing about.

  • lol, awesome, my cuzin played dodger as his churches youth group play

  • i'm doing oliver with my dance group. I'm dodger and my best friend is nancy. She is an amazing singer.

  • Jodie Prenger & Shani Wallis r still my favourites

  • painfull

  • i miss Ruthie already .

but this girl is good too !

  • I don't know what everyone has against this Girl!! She's really good!!!!

This song is supposed to sound a little out there, it's just that type of song!! Plus, you have to take into consideration, all of the characters around her were supposed to have been drinkning....

  • i love Shani Wallis wayyyyyyyyyyyyy BETTTER!!!!!!!!!

    but she is good too???

  • Gahh i like Ruthie's style, she was great is Les mis, and Chicago, and indeed the other Oliver numbers, but this is just painfull SOMEONE PUT HER OUT OF HER MISSRY PLEASE

  • I just realised its not Ruthie, which is good because it restores my previous awe. This one i hope never makes it in the west end

  • this isnt ruthie though its Surrane Jones

  • i know. i was saying how i like ruthie as nancy, and i dont like this one.. i just got carried away and didnt put what i meant :L

    lol

  • Noooo, I like Shani Wallis soooooooooo much better.

  • Ahhh, I hate her voice, but the blocking is phanomenal ! Very funny.

  • my school play was better!

  • Oom-Pah-Pah!! - Yay!!

    Altogether now..... :D

  • o dear o dear...go back to corrie surranne!

  • She's supposed to be a bit drunk, guys. She can't really sing, but oh well, it's an interpretation so isn't going to be note-perfect

  • Nancy wasn't drunk in this bit, was she? She was working and trying to distract bill so she could get Oliver away. That's what I thought anyway

  • In the movie version, yes. In the stage version, the song takes place before they even know that Oliver's been taken, and Nancy is a bit drunk. Hope I've helped in some way.

  • hmm and you can all do better ?

  • Sorry But Ruthie is better

  • agreed.

  • she used to be in coronation street, married to steve mcdonald

  • she sould not do the accent causee it soundss bad when she does

  • I really like this Nancy.

  • So do it shows her character well

  • this is flat out the worst nancy i have ever seen. she sounds like a dying animal. i can't even finish the video, it's too painful to listen.

  • She is drunk duh

  • Hrm. Not the best singing, as others have stated, but she has personality. She's a lot less bland than Ruthie's Nancy, and this song doesn't exactly call for great singing...

  • she... she.... she scares me

  • Where...Whered Ruthie go? :(

  • she sings like she's in pain

  • Shes an ok nancy but not the best, also she is not a prostitute in the musical, and this aint the show, its a tv program where a collection of different actors sing songs from oliver.

  • cool

  • wasn't ruthie henshall supposed to be the nancy?

  • This Nancy is a bit annoying, but she did a good job with the flashyness.

  • omg why did the woman frm corrie get chosen 4 nancy! its a nightmare!

  • I agree, she is a crap nancy

  • The risque dancing reminds you of the dancing in today's music videos.

  • She Makes A Shit Nancy!

  • She Makes A Shit Nancy!

  • still...suranne makes a better Nancy by far.

  • lol I love this song. I'm involved in community theater and my eccentric director put together a little revue of musical theater and i sang this song in the character of Nancy. here's why my director is eccentric. i'm a guy with a solid tenor voice and i have a pretty good "belt" and so he thought it would be fun for me to cross-dress. i was nervous but it turned out i stopped the show. anyway, have had fun with this song and if i find the video i'll upload it sometime.

  • i think suranne did a good job.

  • I wish Ruthie had sung this one as well as ill do anything. But this is good as well just love this song. Make you smile when your singing it

  • wish ruthie was singing this.even if shed done all the same dance it would have been more classy sumhow...

  • But Nancy isn't classy. She is a prostitute living on the streets of London.

  • I love Ruthie! Costume is amazing!

    Is this on DVD?

  • I Have just finished Doing Oliver at School I was Mr Bumble but i could not stop sinning the song it is so catchy

  • This song is catchy

  • i think she's ok but i like ruthie better....

  • i really wish ruthie henshall sang this, i think it would have been better.

  • shes more a natural cockney than ruthie but i prefer suranne as karen in corrie which i think she should return in lol.

  • I was hoping Ruthie Henshall would have been singing this, confused as to the change in Nancy. Especially since Henshall has a stronger voice.

  • this is a great vid.

  • She kept running out of breath for example on the line "And dream he was an Earl with a girl on each knee" and totally took away the effect

  • i know

  • Nah She cant do the accent

  • She doesn't have the voice.

  • No,she doesn't,I agree with you,DinoGirl10.I thought the same thought because you can barely hear her.

  • i agree as well

  • me too

  • she sounds like a broken record, like a frog.

Or shes dying, the real nacy in Oliver! is way better

  • i agree

  • same here but i do like surrane as an actress x

  • Me too

  • she cant sing..... -.- and she looks rought n ready (and sxc)

  • I love the dancing.

  • Don't like her voice.

  • i agree.ruthie wudda been gd singin this.betta then i'd do anything.but this 1s still real gd thnx 4 postin

  • I would have prefered to see ruthie Henshall do this number. Suranne seem far to innocnet and girly and im not a big fan of her voice.

  • Yeah, im with ya. I like Suranne's acting elsewhere, but i think Ruthie should of done all the Nancy songs on the show, but i guess they thought more people would know who Surrane was.

  • I think Suranne would make a good Bet though. I think they should have done it just as te stage show filmed. thats would have been great. I played nancy in 2005 for an amiture theatre group and the stage shows so much better than the film. im annoyed the film missed out some really great numbers like widow corneys "I shall scream" and Sykes "my name"

  • Ooh yeah i could see her as Bet, but she'd probably try to get some of Nancy's attention haha. Yeah that would be cool, they should put one out on dvd anyway. Wow i bet that was a great experience! Ive not had a chance to see the stage show but i have heard 'I Shall Scream.'

  • I hadnt heard the songs till we started rehearsing and I really couldnt beleive they cut them. They should definatly film a stage version just because its so less nicey nicey. i hated teh way Nancy was portrayed in the film. she seemed to much of a bimbo instead of the feisty nancy we all love lol

  • I know but maybe they just didnt work in the context of the film, like Chicago, Class and Me And My Baby rule! How they cut them i do not know, although i dont think Renee could of handled Me And My Baby anyway. But back on oliver! Yeah in the book and the old films Nancy was much feistier, but i do love Shani lol

  • @MarieLeah you still have to admit its a classic film? i wouldn't say she was a bimbo, she just seems to have more class in the film than the stage version. Also, in the stage productions he cockney accent is far to exaggerated, and in the film its just right in my opinion.

I prefer the film though, because it never changes and each season the shows obviouslt does, and also its been there since i was a child.

Just my opinion but you know :P

  • I like this, Suranne is a good Nancy, not as good as Ruthie but still very good, makes me laugh. Thanks for vid x
