  • Me too I"m having trouble getting past the loop to do the chain stitch.

  • @SuperBettyboop40 Don't be afraid to use your fingers to help you pass the loop over the hook. You may need a little help at first, but then with practice, it will come more naturally. Be sure to keep your chain stitches loose, so that it will be easier to work into them later. Hope that helps!

  • When a pattern calls for a given number of chain stitches for the foundation row, do you count the loop that is on your hook or not?

  • @wzrdreams No, you don't count the loop on your hook.

  • I am a brand new beginner and very vexed by this simple stitch. At last I have a slip knot, but the yarn over has me growing steadily more annoyed. Whatever I do, it falls off the hook, and has to be put back on. Please tell me if I am doing anything wrong!

  • I do my yarn over differently. Does that make a difference?

  • As long as your stitches end up looking the same, it should be fine. For instance, some people move the hook and grab the working yarn instead of pulling the working yarn around the hook. Whatever works for you and gives you the right result is the right way to do it.
