Have you ever driven in the night, on a long road trip, listening to Son Volt? May the wind take you troubles away...trying to make it far enough to the next time zone...switching over to AM searching for a truer sound. This is the ultimate road music. Good god, I wish I were on the road right now with this music pumping from my speakers.

Bands like Son Volt, Jayhawks, Wilco, Old 97s- these bands captured a sound, time and place that still sounds so relevant and smart. Great writing and talented, understated players. Miss those guys!
@jeffkahl Don't get me wrong-I LOVE this song, but that statement, if not being made w/ poetic license for exaggeration and such is really way way too far
Yes, great song, one of the 50 best ever, but it's too short...I always wanted more

Love this song. "May the wind take your troubles away." Wrote about it and the birth of my youngest son on the music blog Nightly Song:

"switchin' over to AM, trying to find a truer sound" is probably the best line I've ever heard anyone write in a song!

As much as I dislike country music...I can't help but like this song. The lyrics really hit home.

This is one of my favorite of their songs. Uncle Tupelo = love.

Wait, is this by Uncle Tupelo or Son Volt? Son Volt, right?
