I have White friends who don't try to act Black even though they appreciate our culture, music, etc. Teena was Teena and I never thought for a moment she was trying to sing like a Black person. if you are deep, in whatever you do, it will come out real. There are some posers around in both races. She wasn't one of em.

The beauty of this story is that Mickey Ellis didn't see the color, because it didn't matter to her... Get it? It's not that she thought she was black, she didn't see it because it didn't matter, she just saw Teena, and that makes all this debate stupid, because Mickey is deeper than that and was even then. What a revealing, youthful fun moment....If yd like to see/ hear another blue eyed soul sister, plug into Dusty springfield on YTube. She invited the Temptations, Supremes & Stevie Wonder to London B4 they were famous... Dusty made tons of soul records. She recorded some Gamble/ Huff. It was before Lady T's time. Ppl in the US thought Dusty was black too. B/c she sounded black. She was a pioneer too. Their contributions to the music world took lots of courage.

Thank You "Unsung" the ONLY ones to really honor her BEFORE her death. She deserved sooo many more awards in the black entertainment industry for being a pioneer and the ONLY one of her kind to sound authentically black and NOT be (sory If that sounds racist) but it's the truth. She shouldv'e BEEN had a grammy let alone a BET award, Lady of Soul award or whatever other kind of award that honors R&B music. It's almost like "reverse racism" She was a singer, songwriter, producer, arranger, angel.

@nauris705 If you really followed Teena Marie you would no that this isn't an act. Yes Teena grew up around alot of black people but never tried to act or sound black.
