But the original cadre was SAS-trained in the 1970s, to acquire a counter-terror and hostage-rescue skillset the army did not then have, and Delta copied SAS structures and practices exactly, adding their own ideas later. That was the smart way to set the thing up from scratch. Delta still calls its companies 'squadrons', like the SAS, to show where it comes from.
@stolly27 BTW watch out for these crazy Brits because there full of it and they think they invented war. The US Army and other branches had special forces long before the SAS. We also have the best MBT in the Challenger 2, the SA80 assault rifle, which was proven in tests to be 4 x as reliable as the latest M16 and twice as accurate, the HMS Astute and HMS Artful...the best hunter killer submarines etc etc.

The USAF recognises supercruise as being able to sustain M1.5 or more without reheat, which seems like another example of them setting the goalposts to suit themselves (making the Raptor capable of SC whilst eliminating everything else). Their aircraft generation system is another example.

Actually with an air to air load of 2 SRAAM + 4 MRAAM the Typhoon can reach Mach 2+ with afterburners, and can accelerate to and maintain a speed of mach 1.5 without afterburners (supercruise).
It goes at Mach 2. However, that in itself is nothing special. The eurofighter is better than te rest because of it can supercruise (ie do supersonic speeds without afterburners) and has better supersonic agility.

Seems to have a nice roll rate. But that's about it. Where's the minimum radius turns? High AoA maneuvers? Stalls? I have yet to see any video of this thing doing them. Modern fighters like the F-22 (arguably the best in the world) and the Su-30MKI do these with ease.
The F22 was supose to be finished in 1996, but soo many problems the development period went from 9 to more than 20 years, and now when its ready it already outdated technology and need to be modernized :)

Actually supermaneouverability doesnt matter. Its like urban warfare and old trench war. Su-37 (wich doesn't have combat capability yet) is like a urban warrior, agile and powerful at close combat. But it will never survive a long range amraam/meteor sniper, and with the outdated russian computer technology, the AA-12 will be very faulty. And it hasn't ever been tested even in simulated combat.

@stolly27 You misunderstand. Of course Delta is not trained by the SAS now. But the original cadre was SAS-trained in the 1970s, to acquire a counter-terror and hostage-rescue skillset the army did not then have, and Delta copied SAS structures and practices exactly, adding their own ideas later. That was the smart way to set the thing up from scratch. Delta still calls its companies 'squadrons', like the SAS, to show where it comes from.

@mmmtoasty78 In terms of numbers...yes. Not in terms of training. Most of the world acknowledges the British Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy as the best trained in the world. We also have the best MBT in the Challenger 2, the SA80 assault rifle, which was proven in tests to be 4 x as reliable as the latest M16 and twice as accurate, the HMS Astute and HMS Artful...the best hunter killer submarines etc etc.

The SAS and SBS are the best special forces in the world, and our military have to be trained better because we're usually outnumbered. It was ex-British Army officers, leading British Colonials, with veteran French and Polish mercenaries... :-) PLUS a lot of our troops out there were Hanoverian Germans, and our king was German at the time (he couldn't even speak English.) Without their mercenary allies, the Continental Army wouldn't have been able to win, as there were too few of them, and they had to tend to their crops and animals. They were skilled though...no doubts there.

what a machine!! the E F can out manouvere any jet out there, yeah the f22 has the stealth abilities which is awesome but if the two ever met in a close quarters dogfight the E F would come out on top however its brilliant that the two jets are very different yet equally devastating to our enemies, its a shame they may not ever both be tested fully in combat, what with the threat coming from different areas these days

The Typhoons managed to smash a formation of eight F-15s which had the role of the attacker with the firstEurofighter jet managing to "shoot down" four F-15 fighter jets. americaneagle1967. Yes, we are allies. No, the UK isn't buying F22s, we're buying F35s (we've helped develop the F35 since the start of the project and build part of it in the UK). Also, Rolls Royce have teamed up with GE to develop and build the F136 engine that competes with P&W F135.

It migt sound a bit funny when they say that the Eurofighter is so high tech that a pilot on his own cannot even fly the jet, forget about all other aspects of the jet i.e weapons. Flying the jet alone is impossible with out the on-board computers, so don't tell me the Euro fighter is old tech and yes i have read that the Eurofighter is in-fact a raptor killer, the raptor is just a fancy piece of i candy, The will be better versions of the EF2000 and all the f22 can do is run

The USAF recognises supercruise as being able to sustain M1.5 or more without reheat, which seems like another example of them setting the goalposts to suit themselves (making the Raptor capable of SC whilst eliminating everything else). Their aircraft generation system is another example.
Various speeds have been claimed for the Typhoon's supercruise ability ranging from M1.3 with air2air load to M1.5+ (the latter being suggested on EADS website without specifying the weapon load).

Actually with an air to air load of 2 SRAAM + 4 MRAAM the Typhoon can reach Mach 2+ with afterburners, and can accelerate to and maintain a speed of mach 1.5 without afterburners (supercruise).

It goes at Mach 2. However, that in itself is nothing special. The eurofighter is better than te rest because of it can supercruise (ie do supersonic speeds without afterburners) and has better supersonic agility.

i wouldn't call a fluke getting owned, especially since the only guy who's flown both said the Eurofighter just can't be compared to the F22. It's a fighter that was built two decades too late. F22 quote: "We fly out to the range, look around for a while, the Raptors call in that we're all dead, and we fly home and watch how they did it."

Seems to have a nice roll rate. But that's about it. Where's the minimum radius turns? High AoA maneuvers? Stalls? I have yet to see any video of this thing doing them. Modern fighters like the F-22 (arguably the best in the world) and the Su-30MKI do these with ease.

The F-22s cried off, claiming that they were "unstealthed" anyway, although the next day´s scheduled two vs. two BWR engagement was canceled, and "the USAF decided they didn´t want to play any more .

Actually supermaneouverability doesnt matter. Its like urban warfare and old trench war. Su-37 (wich doesn't have combat capability yet) is like a urban warrior, agile and powerful at close combat.
