He sounds like a squirrel with it's nuts in a vice in the studio recording of ToS, but that was also 20 years ago. I saw Megadeth last summer and it's obvious that his high register is by now shot whenever he sings anything off of Rust in Peace. Unfortunately that was the entire first set.
