  • I've been reflecting a lot about this series lately as it truly seems we are currently living our lives in this same manner. I never would have imagined 50 years ago that this would be the case today.

  • "Who is Number One?"

    "You are... Number Six"

  • McGoohan was fantastically creepy what a guy idosynchratic brooding why on earth he never became massive i dunno?Last film i saw him was Braveheart as 'Longshanks'Edward 1st who was a complete bastard ,McGoohan lived up to the part Why he never got a part in any double agent /spy/espionage blockbusters baffles me r.i.p Patrick.

  • LOL. Why did he take the ticket from the machine at the entry barrier? He took it and didn't even wait for the barrier to rise because his low-profile roadster car fitted right below the barrier. And after his stormy resignation there didn't seem to be any car park barrier at the exit, or if there was it was it was of the same type. (I used to love this show btw)

  • Ah yes, This disaster. The ending sucked. It managed to suck me into watching all the episodes, and some were amusing at best, but the ending just sucked. Once you see the ending you'll be like "wtf" and want to shoot yourself for wasting so many hours watching it. Did I mention the ending sucked?

  • @lazzer408 Could not agree more about the "ending" Felt cheated when it ended the bs way it did.

  • @lazzer408 Well 'Fallout' might not be to your taste, but I loved the final revelation about Number 1. For me McGoohan's vision of the individual vs conformity is something that has never been equaled.

  • patrick mcgoohan is hot. and this show is awesome. i really wish i had been alive during the sixties.

  • Sure as hell don't drive anything nearly as cool as KAR 120C.

  • 11 people enjoy reality tv, don't have the parts to quit their own mindless jobs, and sure as hell

  • Internet is the modern Portmeiron !

  • I love this show. It's just a really good show.

  • I hate to use this, but- "gay".

  • I watched this today, wasnt half as good as I remember, no video clips and no ripping Vanessa Feltz wtf?

  • Not a prisoner.. I'm a free man!

And my blood is my own now!

Don't care where the past was,

I know where I'm going.. out!!

  • great great great seri wanderful mister patrickmc coohan y love this seri ricky bartels from the netherlands

  • yeah Baby, I am driving there today.

  • Wow; very cool blast from the past:) Love it and thanks for sharing:)<3

  • i watched this prog the otherday

    nothing has changed

i could not understand it back in 1968

    and am no nearer now

  • @zzzed55 'The series was conceived to make it appear that our hero was striving to be completely free, "utterly himself". Too much of that and society would be overrun by rampant extremists and there would be anarchy. The intention was satirical. Be as free as possible within our situation, but the war is with Number One.' -Patrick McGoohan, speaking to Alain Carraze, 1989. Hope that helps.

  • This show reminds me of Communism and the European Union. A liberal politician can be a very dangerous person.

  • @MrBEB123 Karl Marx thought so: he hated liberals. Of course, nowadays, our revisionist hystericals have convinced us that Marx was a liberal. Only the most amoral, loose-sphincter loonballs would think communists & liberals were the same: now, they're all running for the Republican nomination.

  • @MrBEB123 what? how can you get Communism & Liberalism mixed up? Thatcher was in many ways a Liberal in the classical sense. Would you call her even slightly Keynesian, let alone Communist? I don't think so.

  • The BEST show ever!

  • i think i might have a sort of explanation for the ending of the last episode-the sequel 'shattered visage' reveals the whole thing was a drug-induced hallucinogen, number six was actually number one, and when they 'escape' at the end they were still prisoners in a london that was similar to 'the village', hence the doors opening by themselves, and parliament being the control centre

  • I loved this show so much. The ending makes you think, "Is there REALLY any escape for The Prisoner? "

  • Patrick McGoohan was such a cool man - I thought he was very sexy esp in Secret Agent Man- Great song by Johnny Rivers "theres a man who leads a life of danger to everyone he meets he stays a stranger"

They dont make actors like that anymore so cool so sexy and with little effort.

  • ........well, while the crazy people commenting on this vid are talking about conspiracies and shit, did anyone find how hilarious the number of times the guy gets drugged or gassed? i mean, i thought the simpsons was exaggerating, but wow. u can do a drinking game of it

  • ... the number is already on bar codes all over the world ! The illuminati card game seems to be a great insight into what is planned for mankind . Big Brother is training up millions worldwide , preparing for international civil unrest , caused by high unemployment , food prices ( grow your own ) , over taxing , corrupt governments , etc ... Be assured of one thing , this is all being brought about by the major banking families , in order to enforce Marshal law & complete global control of us !

  • @harmageden

You've really been drinking the Kool-Aid, haven't you?

BTW, in golf, you shout, "Fore!", not "four".

  • Everyone has a number on their birth certificate , which is listed on the stock market . In the eyes of the ruling families , we are mere commodities , to be used in whatever way they feel fit . Just so that you know . The Prisoner is an insight into what is coming . Under The New World Order , the human race is to be reduced to 500.000.000 ( Georgia Guidestones ) , the only currency will be a microchip account , . If their is any sign of rebellion , the chip is switched off . Rev 13 :16-18 ..

  • This is pre-emting the future , when we will all be be microchiped and given a number . " I am not a number , i'm a free man!! " As they say in golf " four".. watch out ..here comes the BALL !

  • "The Prisoner" has a cult following. People follow it like a cult! (A little "Seinfeld" reference here.)

Just so you know, I'm not poking fun at the series. I recently borrowed the series from a friend and I absolutely loved it.

  • Is Patrick McGooham still alive?

  • @eggnogonthebog He is dead.

  • -Who are you?

    -I´m number two.

    -Who is number one?

    -You´re number six.

    ;DD

  • This is best series ever. I love The Prisoner. It´s a beautiful, stark and surprising. Woohoo! lol :DD

  • Being Not a Number but a Free Man...he should have driven UNDER that barrier-he could have,in that Lotus;

    - and definitely NOT taken a parking ticket-how uncool is that?

  • Oye! Oye! I am announcing my brilliant idea to the public!!

I will be creating game for this fantastic series! And not one of those american prisoner bullshit! The real damn thing! Thumbs up if you are with me in this!!

  • In my opinion one of the best shows ever and is still fresh today as it was back in the late sixties.

  • why did you think a giant bubble will stop him?

  • Recently purchased the dvd set "The Prisoner--40th Anniversary Collectors Edition". I was blown-away by the beautiful and careful restoration of the show for the dvd edition. The color, fine grain, and detail are incredible. You can see the texture of the fabric on McGoohan's jacket. The colors are vibrant, and the sound is excellent and hi-fidelity. Having only seen the series in over-the-air analog tv broadcasts, you can now see "The Prisoner" as it must have looked when it first came out.

  • @delavalmilker FWIW, the 1080p Blu-ray release of The Prisoner looks considerably *better* than it ever did on original broadcast.

  • I remember this broadcast as 'the prisoner number 6' and loving every second of it

i forgot it existed for years

  • Dear god above I flippin love this opening.Guess im 11 years old again.

  • @helltopay1 Well, that was quality TV back then! And it no shame in that.

  • Superb television

  • Love this show the most!! i love the paranoia of it. Where the hell is he and who are the people? Who is Number 1? Whats more, who really is Number 6? What side is what? Possibly 6 is the bad guy and the villiage are the good guys. What secret does 6 have and why does Number 2 want it so much? I saw some of the episodes of the new series of the Prisoner but I felt dissapointed by it, even though I usually like Jim Cavesal.

  • Arrival, Free for All, Chimes of Big Ben, The General, Schizoid Man, Once Upon a Time, some of the best television ever, unfortunately McGoohan knew we were all going to be arriving in the village. The forest, the sea, the beach, THE VILLAGE.

  • I am not number! I am a free man!

    You are number 6.

  • greatest show ever

  • This stunning series was broadcast here in The Colonies in late summer 1969, about the same time as the first moonlanding and Chappaquiddick. This programme was just the thing to abet my growing Anglophilia. It was on at 7p on Saturdays and I would not miss it on any account. The last episode, however, made no sense. I understand that McGoohan himself directed it - probably a mistake. Oh, well.

  • Old is gold!

  • @Pipweed Well, which are you?

  • Tis is it ,it doesnt get better

  • Shows dont even have opening sequences anymore. The theme song genre is dead. They were some of the best little tiny mini master pieces.

  • A lot of people here just don't get it. Watch the final episode Fall Out, and just read the labels for each of the councilors - The fundamental theme of the show is how to maintain a distinctive individuality in a society and system that demands fundamental conformity - it doesn't matter the political label or whether public or private - corporations are as dangerous to individuality as any government. The goal of ALL organizations, private or public, is conformity and power.

  • @ryoushii Well said!

  • @ryoushii - Too many long words there for me.

  • is this series on tape or dvd?

  • I'd really like to know what he's saying in this sequence - right when he resigns. I've been thinking about this series a lot lately. Watching it in YouTube, however, it is obvious that The Prisoner has no idea that his resignation is going to cause such an extended period of isolation.

  • Shouldn't have gone in through the exit doors. That's what the village is for - to stop public menaces like him!

  • I am not a number.... i am a free man

  • @cassiopee70 HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

  • Ya know, I think it might be there. But seriously my friend, #6 shows disdain, disgust and defiance towards the #2s all series long. That crackle of thunder in the beginning and when he pounds on George Markstein's desk when he resigns could be a symbol of that disgust,

  • Where's the thunder clap? That is big part of opening theme.

  • @PREGO1966 Jeez, sorry, I'll go back in time three years ago when I uploaded this sucker and tack it onto the beginning. Take care of your own clap ;)

  • @PREGO1966 - The thunder clap's at the start of the clip, where it's always been...

  • series plot wonderful, intro theme dreadful

  • Be seeing you

  • Only one thing to say: KAR120C. I want that plate but there's a waiting list in EVERY STATE in the US, Yeah, decades after it's initial showing, it's still popular. Otherwise, I could get that FUCKING PLATE!!!!

States I've tried to get that plate in the last decade or so: New Mexico, North Carolina, Louisiana, South Carolina, Texas, Kansas, Florida---no luck!

  • I love the way he drives under the barrier, then it rises. Class

  • I wish there were thunder effects every time I opened a door.

  • I am number one, you are a giant number two lmao

  • Speaking of prophetic this show is now a reality in Europe with the European Union and their Communistic ways in which they are screwing the White general public every chance they get. The most amazing thing about this is a majority of Whites in Europe still support this draconian organization. White U.S. citizens seem to become more brainwashed each year as well despite the emergence of the Tea Party Movement.

  • @MrBEB123 Only white americans? How come?

  • @Tabish29 This was an anti-Communist show and the anti-White European Union is a form of Communism. Non-Whites are largely liberal and anti-White for a wide variety of reasons including not being able to meet White standards and because of what Whites have as a result of their accomplishments which they like to call privilege. Western society is becoming very much like the Prisoner show in which the White race is being strangled including speech and gun rights.

  • @MrBEB123 Take note that this man is a Nazi supporter and compliments the Teabag Party. Hmm....

  • @SterilizeThePopulace I can't very well be a supporter of the Nazi Party being it hasn't been around since 1945. You might watch the Prisoner T.V. show series being you might learn something from it. It is what life is going to be like for Whites in their own homeland if they keep supporting Communism such as voting for "people" like Obama or supporting the despicable European "Trade Union" which is really a left wing political entity. Your Tea Party criticism remark is weak and laughable.

  • @SterilizeThePopulace By the way I was just noticing your online name of SterilizeThePopulace. Really? Would you care to explain that? So you think the general population should be sterilized? That is beyond Communism, it would be more like pure evil. And you are trying to criticize the quality supporters of the Tea Party whose only goal is to establish decency? I like to argue with people here on YouTube and win on the facts but you make your own case for being a loser.

  • @MrBEB123 I said nothing of the Nazi Party. I said Nazi supporter. Nazism is an ideology, not just a party. When you call yourself a national socialist and have a friend whose avatar is Hitler, I don't think that label is a stretch.

As for my user name, it's about what humans are doing to themselves. However, if the government sterilized people like you, I wouldn't object.

  • @MrBEB123 The important fact here is that a racist Nazi backer is saying that the Teabaggers want to establish decency. And if anyone knows about decency, it's racist Nazis.

  • Best ever. McGoohan was teh sex back in his day. No one can thump a table in a rage and make a teacup and saucer bounce like he did. Ahh, natural talent.

  • @DieHolmes Broke the saucer too =P

  • @SnakeOilSalesman He really must have been pissed about what

had happened during his last mission! Heck, that probably why

    the Prisoner series came out.

    Just saying.

  • @DieHolmes i think the prisoner is a pretty cool guy; he breaks the teacup and doesn't afraid of anything

  • I love that Lotus7!!

  • who is number ONE!!??? You are...... number 6!! épic

  • "i am not a number, I am a free man!" - Number 6

  • If you want to watch all 17 episodes of the Prisoner, go to AMC's website. They are currently streaming the series. You do not have to sign up. You do have to watch about 2 commericals per 50 minute episode. Enjoy Be Seeing You...

  • Someone should put up the "curfew music" from the show. I heard it used on the show a few times and, oddly, I remember it from an animation of a tree growing on a late 70s Sesame Street. It sounds Spanish or French but apparently an Italian wrote it.

  • You ought to mention this is the slightly longer version of the opening, used only in Episode 1: "Arrival". In the others the ticket booth segment is eliminated as are other miniscule clips

  • pam2167: It's a Lotus.

  • what kind of car is that?

  • Way Out!

  • There's a marvellous clip somewhere, from an American chat show, where an exhasperated McGoohan is asked if the final scenes, showing him driving home to London with the butler and his own front door opening electronically, means he has won and is now Number One.

His expression says it all. He didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

  • I never bore of this opening sequence.

  • El Agente86 ajajajjajajajajjajajajajjaa

  • Kewlios

  • This is a truly wonderful opening. It dramatically told the story of how he ends up in the village without the use of character dialog or a voice over. I thought the use of thunder to show his anger as he resigned was very effective. My dad got me the whole series on DVD and I loved it!

    Be seeing you!

  • Looks like a piece of shit to me

  • i remember watching reruns of this, along with The Avengers, as a kid. The Prisoner used to scare me a bit though-especially that big bubble thing. Damn, but it was weird and wonderful, lol.

  • Patrick McGoohan the best :)

  • For anyone who is pissed off by the last one to three episodes (the ones McGoohan directed himself after he fired the other guy, or after he left out of frustration, or whatever the hell happened) where the show kind of goes crazy and loses track of its spy-drama roots, here is my solution: I pretend that Many Happy Returns is the final episode... it seems the best ending for the series.

  • Alternative suggestions: "I gave not a hummer! I gave a tea bag!" "I am not an antidisestablishmentiarian! I am a hermaphroditIc bilingual meteorologist with pseudofolliculitis barbae and a penchant for buggery!"

  • RIP Patrick McGoohan,Why Did You Resign????

  • @saml760 eh it was explained in "degree absolute" number two ask that question as number six was breaking....

the answer , BECAUSE WHAT WE WERE DOING WAS ABOVE THE LAW !

yep like roswell, and everything else since 1913 ( jekell island / etc ) the powers that be are going against the LAW that was sent down on high from GOD to moses...

and only JESUS will re-set the world order and thats coming sooooooo soon !

  • If only one word could be used to sum up this series it would have to be : BRILLIANT!

  • This show was very deep, intellectual indeed. A reflection on freedom. RIP Patrick McGoohan, Number Six is free at last.

  • greatfull program

    EXCELLENT!!

  • They fucked up this show with poor script writers, what a fucking waste a potential to be the best show ever, but still its cult

  • nice lotus 6 BTW is it a sequel to danger man?

  • "I am not a number... I am a free man!" - great programme!

  • Gee. . . I know most employers want you to give them 2 weeks notice before you quit A job, but that's just vindictive!!!-Honestly, one of the coolest, most thought provoking dramatic TV series ever!

  • In THE PRISONER, McGoohan takes this suffering Christ spy and takes him through temptation, devils, death, burial, descent into Hell, and resurrection (though without achieving divinity)... If you want to know who NUMBER SIX is, here's your answer.

  • @sojournersblues

I like your analysis. In Biblical numerics 6 is the number of man, and McGoohan was showing this. There is so much allegory and a ton of metaphor in this series, but I think that you've hit upon an important part of it.

    Be seeing you.

  • DANGER MAN was originally about James Bond. Ian Fleming was the chief consultant on the series. Patrick McGoohan turned James Bond into John Drake and stuck to his guns at the risk of losing the role. During the runs of DANGER MAN, McGoohan turned the chaotic hedonist super-spy into a suffering Christ (if you don't believe me, watch the episodes THE PAPER CHASE and SHINDA SHIMA, among others).

  • the new version blows chunks! THIS IS THE PRISONER

  • I didn't know McGoohan died!!! :-( Bugger.

  • @mrsotter19 That's what he wants everyone to think!

  • @garysteel1984 You tease! ;-)

  • Who is number 1?

    You are number 6.

  • @ObamaFansAreIgnorant There's a lot of speculation that this can be taken in two ways. Most people think Number 2 is telling The Prisoner he is number 6. But it is also suggested that what he is saying is "YOU ARE, Number Six" - it certainly fits in with the message of the series.

  • Just realised Quite a bit of this is used for the Andrew Marr show haha what a legend :}

  • Watched 15 minutes of the new series and what an insult to the original.

Pat McGoohan, Portmeirion and the sixties WAS The Prisoner, it cant be redone.

  • @Urko2005

Agreed. Remakes and rehashes of past shows are just pale imitations.

  • truncated version, wasting my time man

  • I am not a number i'm a free man. Ha Ha Ha

  • i am not a number i am an anaesthetic

  • "WHERE AM I?"

    "In the Village".

    We are we all today?

    In the Village.

Prophetic and challenging - Pat McGoohan knew what he was doing.

    Be Seeing You.

  • A Classic. And how could anyone remake this? Impossible.

  • @IntellectualAmy easy from some director who has total vision of madness thats were new ideas come from

  • 5* show!!!

  • "Too long" ; Ha ha ha ha ha ha !! Classic !

  • @Crossbowman Your mother said that about me. I was quite distraught.

  • @Spitfirebird Your mother didn't say anything to me, because I did her from behind. I was quite distraught.

  • @Crossbowman "to long? what are you smoking?

  • @Crossbowman Too long? what are you smoking?

  • KAR 120C drives under toll gate--

no need to bring any pocket change!

I wonder if the 'Ministry of Mayhem'

    validates?

    Probably not--hence the

    "Low Rider"

  • In my opinion, the "Prisoner" is the unequalled standard by which all t..v. shows within the genre must compare. Perhaps, the American series Lost, borrowing some ideas from this series offers something for the more intellectual t.v. viewer to enjoy. British and Canadian original productions are exquisite. I concur with lerx42 without reservation . It's the best series ever shown on television.

  • when it originally came out I thought it was about balloons {I was 6 years old}, now i think it runs as one of the most intelligent , original shows we ever produced..Brits that is

  • Like the Avengers. My sister and I were little kids when they began but we loved these shows. I remember it being a very big deal when the last Prisoner episode ran!

  • Strange series

  • in his era of left v right,

the prisoner was Libertarian vs Authoritarian

  • i am not a leopard! i am a flea bag!

  • Nice imaginative comment! Someone is using their noggin to entertain us!

  • I am not a number. I'm a free man.

  • @EmpireLS56KW

Neither am i, and So Am I

  • I remember watching this in high school when PBS showed it. I later taped ever episode when it was on BBC America.

  • i got to see it during the original run

didnt understand most of it ( i was a wee kiddy) but it stuck with me forever

not too many shows do that

  • <3 this show!!!

  • What a great actor and fun show, I remember watching the reruns in the 80's on PBS.

  • Yeah I actually first saw it on PBS! it was way before my time!!

  • Anybody know where I can get this music? That would be cool!

  • there was a cd of all the incidental music if you haven't found it already

  • itv have made a re-make of this and is comming to itv early 2010. i dont think it will be good as this one but im going to watch it.

  • @LloydSimcoe

??? The remake was out months ago and it sucked ass.

  • well it dosent start in england on itv channel untill february 2010.

  • @LloydSimcoe

Don't get too excited you're not missing much.

  • well I know Im not missing much because it hasn't started over here. When it does start over hear, I still won't miss much :)

  • odd proggy, you never find out whether its his side or the badies that have him.

  • @dictatorialmessenger

Dude. They make it obvious many times during the show that the village is run by his side.

  • SO, let me get this straight. He goes to work, parks his car, tells his boss off, goes home, gets the mail, gets gassed.

Well there you go then, tough day man.

  • I am not a number...I am a FREE MAN!

  • It's ironic that McGoohan was Catholic because his popes usually have ordinal numbers in their names. Pope Benedict the 16th can say, "I am not a free man! I am a number!"

  • so did kings and in U.S. some people still use numbers in their names :P
