I fucking hate how I discuss real "hip hop" to kids my age and they describe it as terrible poetry..... That it is not classified as music... People need to stop trying to put expectations in things they have never seen before and accept things for what they are rather than delineate a standard that all music has to follow..... It might not be "music" instrumental, but the art behind hip-hop is the power and rhythmic eloquence of the voice.....
@plasmametroid You, my friend have an open mind and heart. I have been through the same thing as an a massive fan and avid underground hiphop listener and also as a rap artist myself. You know exactly what hiphop is about and my suggestion would be to never give up exposing those you respect to good music such as this. However, when one expresses an opinion such as the one you described above, there would be no need to respect or acknowledge their opinion based on their close-minded standpoint.
@konradhk00 Ignorance is something that is worth ignoring myself.... It just sucks that even more than half of the people who think they know about hip-hop really don't..... For 2 years I have been listening heavily to Aceyalone (All balls don't bounce, book of human language, Freestyle Fellowship, Mikah 9, and Abstract Rude..... and Im proud to say (if it doesnt sound too close minded) that they shaped and changed my perception of hip hop forever....
@plasmametroid I totally feel what you're saying and no it doesn't sound the least bit close-minded that these guys shaped your perception of hiphop.. (then again I don't define was close-minded is ;) ) . I hope you have checked out Brother Ali and all the guys from Rhymesayers Entertainment. Brother Ali himself has brightened my life with his music. As a white rapper from the burbs, I have come across a lot of ignorance and there isnt a greater feeling then beating it to death with knowledge.
Respond to this video... The beauty of life is that everybody has enough time to be able to expose themselves to the arts and evolve beyond the mindset they originally closed themselves in.... As a 19 year old pianist, I have opened myself to so many radical things over the past four years..... I've been listening heavily to Jazz and then it transitioned into hip hop the next year... Its amazing how much quality you can accumilate in 365 days... Project Blowed for life!!!!
@plasmametroid amen to that. I grew up as a classically trained pianist and went on to play many instruments, but unfortunately didnt stick with it and now I'm 24 and wish I did. Everything I ever listened to has influenced my own music and encourage me to go in search of more. In the last 2 months I have gone on an underground spree (mostly hiphop) and have found so many artists that I am almost embarrassed that I didnt know of before, and I have completely replaced my 16gb ipod with new music.
All the greatest Los Angeles MC's Came out of The Goodlife and Project Blowed !!!! Thank you B. Hall ( the most beautiful and unknown gift to hip-hop) thank you for dedicating Thursdays to kids, like Ace one (Aceyalone), A.B. Baracas (Abstract R.) Fish, Ridd,Rifleman (Ellay) who like me and many out there have nothing else to do, but use our art to escape the torments of everyday life. Yo! peep the movie "This is the Life" its about the early days of Hip-hop in L.A. and it uncovers alot of truth
but what i really wanted to say is that there's some special, in my mental cargo vessel. and it runs on lethal. etholmethane, profane, kinda like a flux capacitor, but it ain't no passenger. i love this song.
