The Japanese pop culture has its own spin on the character - the manga/ anime character Lupin III, also an unusual thief. (Mentioning this because KARA is successfully promoting in Japan.)
"Lupin" is also a name of a flower and is etymologically linked to "wolf," but I don't think they were going for those meanings.
