  • Jerry Goodman's violin is on fire here!

  • Can anyone imagine if Billy Cobham was with Frank Zappa back then? I wonder how fast tickets would sell?

  • Pure Virtuosism!

  • It's silly to compare McLaughlin and Hendrix. Although I can see where one would find some common ground, and that is the sound of the electric guitar. Whatever I've ever read all guitarists no matter who have always paid gratitude to Jimi for his innovations with the electric guitar. Wah wah, feedback, the hallmarks of the rock sound. Now John McLaughlin took that sound and created a type of music that's never been heard before. It will always be a musician's music, and will always astound us.

  • If you smoke pot, smoke before listening. Trust me, it's incredible, John is a master.

  • Although Zeppelin is my favorite band, I'd say The Mahavishnu is a close second. Besides, John and I have the same birthday!!!!!

  • ohh yes... my john....when people were listening to zep..etc. i was into JOHN.. what a cool time to grow up.........

  • PURE PANIC!!!

  • imho, mclaughlin is the best guitarist there ever was, and always was in terms of playing the guitar, better than any other, even hendrix. hendrix, imho, had the greatest potential but like a typical american, destroys himself before reaching full potential. mclaughlin, since hendrix's death, has taken the guitar (acoustic & electric) to riiculous levels, above & beyond hendrix, srv, page, zappa, clapton or santana. scalloped frets, diversity, and all, ask the others they'd tell you the same.

  • @maddsri RIGHT ON!!!!

  • @maddsri He is a master but I stopped caring about your message at "Typical American" don't be an asshole dude, a great deal of of musicians all over the world, kill themselves before they reach there true potential.

  • @HippyamongHicks Agreed. I was watching some video the other day where someone commented "Man, the UK is really owning faces in music right now". I'm from the UK and for some reason felt kind of chuffed (because it was awesome music) and almost replied with something like "right on" but then it sunk in that a lot of my favourite musicians are from completely different places and that music is music, regardless of where it comes from.

  • @HippyamongHicks like paul kossoff, brian jones, keith moon, john bonham, steve clark, and phil lynott all of whom are british/irish and died of drug overdoses. the point is not only american musicians die from drugs

  • @HippyamongHicks

you're gay. go vote for obama or bush or something. fascist dipstick.

  • nice

  • My soul is AWAKE!!! YES!!!

  • One of my favorite albums of all time!!!

  • The Violinist Jerry Goodman is demonstrating sheer mastery of the violin.

  • oh my sweet lord.

  • Dorian411, you are absolutely correct, Mo was revealing different musical dimention and phylosophy

  • I absolutely love this song, and this band. They always seem to amaze me. <3

  • cobham is killin it. i love how he goes to the china in the keyboard solo. so funky.

  • @blahman178 he changes the feel of the entire song at this point too. instead of straight 32nds he has like a sweet half time feel.

  • @blahman178 Da 22" swish knocker! Heavy shit.

  • @blahman178 You are looking at the invention of the modern metal breakdown, sir. Sounds absolutely amazing.

  • Just place this song in context. 1972/73. The best out there was Hendrix, Clapton, Zappa, Greene, perhaps Page and Garcia and Santana, and THEN MO's IMF is released. The guitar world was swept clean, and everyone now had a look at what virtuoso electric modal jazz was.

  • @dorian411

    Well said.

  • @dorian411

But, let's be honest here. King Crimson is just better.

    Sorry, it's a truth.

Still pretty pro, although cannot say I care for the album's theme ~_~.

  • Well I suppose we all have our opinions. Lark's Tongue in Aspic was a great album. But, IMO, for what it is worth this album is by far the greatest release in prog rock/fusion until this day. Too bad they, or noone else would surpass its combination of intensity, technicality and pure raw emotion.

  • @progmetal66

Couldn't have put it better myself!

  • @BlarghenSnargle Funny stuff my friend. KC ain't half bad. Enjoy Mr. Fripp and the boys!

  • Holyyyy shitttttttt

    !

in the good sense of course

  • Without a doubt Billy Cobham's greatest studio performance.

  • WHOA. Like, whoa. When I opened this it actually amazed me.
