I LOVE these people who have no idea what they are talking about, except their own "common sense" assumptions, and a couple of TV shows. And then they have the nerve to tell someone with actual military experience what the Rules of Engagement are. Where is this "La-La Land" that you people come from? Unbelievable.
Nope. I'm only 33. And since I got a late start at my career due to military service, I've only been at it for about 6 years. And I don't know what "politing" is, so I can't answer that. I have no idea why you're jumping to this strange conclusion of "university degree and 20 years of experience in politing."
My knowledge of RoE, as I just told you, is based upon actual military experience. Whereas YOUR "knowledge" is based upon "common sense" according to your words.
Correction- "common sense" and "a TV documentary about fighter pilots." It would seem to me that YOU are the one who is "full of himself." You attempt to pass along false information based upon "common sense" and "tv documentaries" because you think your logic makes perfect sense. Because you think you're so smart that your assumption MUST be right. You're SO full of yourself in fact that you refuse to accept facts, and instead continue to rely upon TV and make-believe.
I don't blame you. Acknowledging it would only make you look even dumber. And You've already made a total ass of yourself. But that would just be "common sense." Loser
Once again, I'm a few steps ahead of you. I have owned Allied Force for 3 years. If Lock On is not a sim, neither is AF. AF has some of the worst flight models I've seen in a game. As a matter of fact, if you see someone in the Lock On lobbies callsign "Bjorn", he is a real F16 pilot for the National Guard. He plays Lock On because the planes handle more realistically than Falcon.
Like I said, you can't always run away. If you get jumped by 8 planes, YOU will be unprepared.
The Cobra manuever was invented by a Russian pilot, it doesnt waste any more energy than making the plane do a flip genus. Only Russian fighters can pull these off. If a F-16 pilot tried this, expect to hear on the news "A US F-16 Fighting Falcon pilot crashed into the ground killing 100 americans while trying to do the cobra manuever while training" LOL! ITS TRUUUUE!
i see y ppl think the cobra is unrealistic but i seen a russian MiG-29 and a Su-27 both do a cobra maneuver and the russian pilot can target a plane by just looking at them a hit a button so i don't see whats so unrealistic
yah ill give you that but thats not the aim-9 it the cheap russian version no because in soviet russia you don't aim missle, missle aim you but no really the russian version of the aim-9 is less manouverable then the Aim-9
What the... are you kidding? The "cheap Russian version" of the Aim-9 you are referring to is the R73. The missile can turn 10Gs harder than the Aim9, and has a longer range than the Aim9. The Aim9X is not in LOMAC because it entered service in 2003, and LOMAC was released in 2003.
The only point you can get credit for in that uninformed post is that the Russian Vympel R73 IS cheaper, by about $30,000 USD. Cheaper AND better? Not in the USA.
its helmet sight aim system I agree its more then realistic. I think that the real problem is to find the guy and see him to target him, it will be confusing for a bad pilot.

actually Pugachev's Cobra is normal stunt, performed in airshows, as well as Kulbit. These 2 are one of the best stunts. I'd reccomend checking both videos with REAL LIFE airplanes ;]
your talking about ww2 planes:D sitting ducks is an expression used in US air force not the russian one, and more important is the fact that long range combat is just not true. Part of the battle is long range part is middle range and part can be even close range. Just think about the speed of the plane thats travelling at 1600km an hour or 1000 mph. They get close real fast. Long range combat is just theory not reality. And the fact is also that planes can be in larger numbers.
your just dum what are you talking about? Do you know what a jet looks like:D And yes in combat most fly supersonic because the combat lasts only few minutes and thats how much fuel they have for combat. It takes less then a minute to get in close range because the planes travel at 500 meters per second so its 1 kilometer in 2 seconds.
And yes missiles go fast, but so do planes so they can fly back out of the range of the missile and come back and fire again. back and forth until they need cannons. But its hard to explain to someone who thinks its easy as that. Planes can cover or mask them selfs in the terrain and also some missiles just dont hit the target. The enemy uses flares and manuevers.
Being outnumbered does NOT mean you are at a disadvantage. And sometimes you can't run away. I'm not sure where you went to fighter weapons school, but clearly it wasn't in the USA.
RoE are NOT static, and can change depending on the mission. However there are"standing" RoE. And the "first rule of engagement" states that you have the right to defend yourself from serious harm or death. Generally, the 2nd rule states when deadly force can be used, and how MUCH can be used.
You make NO sense. You say most don't fly supersonic because it uses too much fuel. Then on the other hand you claim you can simply turn tail and out-run them...at high speed, burning a ton of fuel I assume?
You flew thousands of miles and hooked up to tankers to get on-station, then dropped tanks when spotted. They took off from a nearby airbase and climbed to meet your challenge. Who has more fuel? Good luck outrunning them, genius.
Yes, mostly you fly subsonic saving fuel, but when you get shot at, than you want to get out as fast as you can logically, so you burn a lot of fuel yes.
And what your saying from the guys taking off:
1st option, they get shot down before they can get higher, because they are in disadvantage at that low altitude.
2nd they will avoid them by flying away.
1st rule of engagement: only engage when you have the advantage ;)
EWR spots you 200 miles away. They scramble and climb to 30,000. They have LOTS of fuel. YOU have been flying for 1000 miles, far from home, with external tanks. You have 60% fuel when you get on-station, flying with NO reheat. If you run, they have enough fuel to chase you down on full reheat. YOU don't have enough fuel for reheat. You will HAVE to drop tanks and fight.
This is basic math. They have more fuel than you. They can afterburn longer. Understand?
1st rule of engagement... that you MADE UP for your video game? Sure, the rule can be anything you want it to be. I'm talking about REAL RoE for the REAL military. And the first REAL rule is that regardless of all other RoE for the mission, you have the right to defend yourself.
The reason I say this is to emphasize that you have no CLUE what you are talking about. Our Air Force trains in "unfair" situations in which they are outnumbered. Numbers alone isn't an advantage.
@rtrThanos Made up? It's common sense. And I got that from a documentary of fighter pilots.
Doesn't actually matter what you say or I say. None of us have a real clue of how it goes in real life. We can talk as much as we can, but it comes to this: none of us will ever fly a fighter jet :)
Enjoy your hobby, I'm getting to old for these discussions :p
No see, that's not true. I actually WAS in the military. Not the Air Force, but the Rules of Engagement are universal. It's not "common sense." And that proves my point; You are just making this stuff up. Just because it's "common sense" for you doesn't suddenly make it real.
YOU talk as much as you can, based on nothing but your assumptions and "TV shows". I'm talking based upon real world experiences, and the experiences of my military friends.
And enjoy YOUR hobby... spreading disinformation, and telling people that YOUR "common sense" is actual fact. I just don't want people to read your BS in here and think that it's real. I saw that you had made multiple previous posts to people in which you are arguing that this nonsense you are saying is REAL. And you just admitted you have nothing more than "common sense" and TV shows to back it up. I suggest that your sense is NOT common, and it's based on video games.
"Try a flight simulator." I OWN this game. I also posted a video demonstrating the Cobra in action. And when I fly in LOMAC, I prefer to be outnumbered. There's so many n00bs in that game that simply don't know ACM basics, I can hold my own against 4 of them without much trouble. For "training," my single player maps are usually 8 to 1 fights, in which I start against 8 F4 Phantoms, then go against Tomcats, F16s, F18s, then F15s. Being outnumbered means nothing with good tactics.
In real life, you will never make it against 8 others...
Try falcon allied force or free falcon :)
A lot harder, but very fun if you get the hang of it.
But it isn't for everyone, most people don't have the patience to figure things out.
Took me a week just to get the plane started from scratch. Now I do this in 10min. depending on the time the electronics need to start up. you'll find some vids on youtube ;)
Not sure what do you mean by "replay the mission". Watch it or play it again? To watch the recorded track you have to quit, save it and load it. If you want to be back in the air, you have to mark in the options "permit the crash recovery", and after the crash press Esc, and then "RCVR" button. If I recall it correctly. cheers
If you can't find it in your local store (it's possible because it's an older game) you can always try ebay or online stores. Google more info about this game (e.g. wikipedia), the full name is: "Lock On: Modern Air Combat."
actually the cobra can only be performed at certain airspeeds with lower than 50% internal fuel its not a push button any time throw the AOA off, lock on did a great job by only letting you perform AOA moves at low speeds its accurate to real life if you turned off the AOA limiters at high speed or too slow the airframe can tear apart or loose to much energy, look up the manuever in a air combat tactics book get some real facts about the manuever and the man that made it famous :)
Most of those cases, you'd be screwed if your missiles missed. In those dogfights try to nose down into a cobra hook, rather than a conventional cobra. Cobra during a dive and you'll regain energy faster that way. Still risky, but if you catch them by surprise...
What I'd like to see is two fighters in a gunfight with eachother, using the cobra family of maneuvers to gain the advantage...
that first "manuver" is not that reliale yer kinda screwed if they turn don't ya think? and i also noticed that the "enamy" is not shooting at you. ooooooooooh well u made yourself look good i guesss.
I used the cobra maneuver like that for the first time a couple of days ago. to Lock them up quickly he has padlcoked them and uses the helmet moundet sight( default key 5 i think )and just locks, but i dont know how to shoot 2 mssiles simultaneously, but it´s really not that good a tactic i think, if you miss with one the other is also likely to miss, better to shoot one first and wait, harder for tha bandit to dodge both that way.
Hmm, impressive, how did you lock on them so quick and fire 2 rockets at the same time? But I guess they didn't have missiles when you flew against Mirage otherwise you would have been toast:P
like.

2- Very smooth gameplay. Is it editing? If not, what was the system you ran it at?

Most of those cases, you'd be screwed if your missiles missed. In those dogfights try to nose down into a cobra hook, rather than a conventional cobra. Cobra during a dive and you'll regain energy faster that way. Still risky, but if you catch them by surprise...
What I'd like to see is two fighters in a gunfight with eachother, using the cobra family of maneuvers to gain the advantage...

But I guess they didn't have missiles when you flew against Mirage otherwise you would have been toast:P

wow ive always wondered why the cobra monouvre was so highly regarded... i never knew you could do that!!!

Well, it's only a game m8;) In real air-to-air combat energy and speed are crucial and you're wasting both of them by performing the cobra...
It's a good question if this maneuver can be successfully applied during real dogfight. So far it has been performed only on airshows.

i know what you mean... but im sure in some circumstances it can be implemented in battle. Either way still a cool vid.
