The whole world backed Dan Jansen, because his story was that of human struggle against adversity, and nothing about any divinity whatsoever.

The most touching part about the dan jansen story is that he promised his sister who was on her death bed that he would win her a gold medal thats why it was so special to him. Its pretty inspiring.

nothing against jansen, i'm very happy he got the gold in the end for himself, his family and his sister. However, objectively speaking, he probably doesn't have quite the concentration level as some of the other elite athletes. I totally understand why he fell in '88. But 4 years later in albertville, there's no excuse for his slips....he just lost concentration. Even more so in his first race in Lillehammer.

i disagree with your assessment. In Albertville he just did not skate well and was a victim of soft ice. if you recall that was the last time they raced out doors and it was fairly warm. the fact that he set a WR in the 1000 shows extreme concentration as it was not his best event. before the Lillehammer he held the WR in the 500. the 1000 was not his best event so for him to set the WR in the 1000 on the biggest stage is most impressive.

This is not a crusade to find Jesus or any other religion, but rather a spectacualr journey of an athlete who we should HATE for taking away all of our excuses to not get back in the saddle when we fail!
