This is really good. I personally prefer Jay's voice but Johnny was really good too. He was better than Jay in some respects, such as vibrato and such, but Jay had more range, and I just happen to like Jay's voice better. Johnny does an excellent job here though!
The reason people get the tenors and other members mixed up is because of the kingsmens ability to change members and keep the sound very close to the same.. A great group and a great bunch of guys!! I oughta know!!
i do not like this new southern gospel stuff..give me switchfoot or somthing to that effect..but this older stuff..i LOVE..a little bit of soul a feeling to it..
yes this is wonderful southern gospel, like we used to sing when I sung back years ago. I do like the Gaither homecoming music. I see lots of people rating tenors. My pick is 1. Denver Crumpler, of the olde Rangers,, & Statesmen. #2 Johnny Parrak, love his voice, and would like to know where he is now. Keep up the good work. God bless you all.
Johnny Parrack is a wonderful tenor and was the best. So glad he is still in ministry with his son, Jay, who is also a great tenor. Both have clear tenor voices and sing with great emotion and joy. See his website for more information.
@joshuadavid1996 didnt say I didnt like SG today, just said todays isnt as good as yesteryears in my humble opinion.....Cathedrals, Kingsmen, Hinsons, Goodmans were head and shoulders above todays groups....just saying...
LOL Ginger, I was shouting way before I read your comment. THAT was the days if ole Squire would've got in with them. I have been looking for the 40th on DVD but cannot find it.
Hey y'all, for those who didn't know....Little Ernie is still alive, however, his health could be better, but, could be worse also. I am in occasional contact with him and his Family. Another baritone from this time period, Wayne Maynard (another kingsman from the late 70s-early 80s) is doing well as I am in regular contact with him.
The best group ever to sing the Gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord. I myslef love the 70's and early 80's era. With John Parrack and Ernie Phillips as tenors. Esquire Parsons, Big Jim, Ray and of course Eldridge. Nick Bruno was one of my favorite key musicians of the Kingsmen. The world today will never know what it was like to see them live.
Best Kingsmen song ever.. I love the Kingsmen.. My group is actually recording this song on our new album in July. We have a video of us singing this on here we are called New Day Music Ministries. The recording is ok.
@1954terry1954 Yeah, Southern Gospel today is more like contemporary than anything else. I love the old timey stuff. I might get to see the Kingsman in the next month or so, but I don't know, they just aren't the same....
@1954terry1954 i completely agree most of the new stuff today is either contemporary or either like gospel rock or somethin......im only 16 and i know this....as young as i am southern gospel is my most favorite of all....always will be
Johnny Parrack is a wonderful tenor and was the best. So glad he is still in ministry with his son, Jay, who is also a great tenor. Both have clear tenor voices and sing with great emotion and joy.
I am not the one who requested this song But Thank you for sharing this it brought back memories I sang in a Quartet for 12 yrs singing the Tenor & there was not a night that we didn't sing this song

Is that Gary Shephard singing lead ? I love Squeeky's singing.
I wish someone had him singing I know what Jesus did for me.
sonshine04086 1 year ago
@sonshine04086 No, the tenor is not Gary Sheppard. It is Johnny Parrack who was a couple tenors before Sheppard.

Southern Gospel has always had a full share of really good tenors, back in the day with the Statesmen right up to today.

That tenor sounds amazingly like the tall skinny blond haired screaming tenor Gold City used to have. It's uncanny.
smn76 2 years ago
That's because this tenor, Johnny Parrack, is ex-Gold City's Jay Parrack's dad. The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.
