The first track on their first album, Inflammable Material. Although they had released 2 singles before the album, this was the track that introduced the majority of us to this great band. And what a song it is! This track comes storming out of the speakers with an attack that has rarely been equaled in punk music and it heralded the arrival of one of the very greatest punk bands. This album and their second, Nobody's Heroes, are mandatory for any serious punk collection. Belfast's finest band!!
I served in Northern Ireland in 1990/91, the IRA were bombing mainland Britain with Suspect Devices, or IED's, Improvised explosive devices, was my job to provide logistics to the guys who defused them, all paid for by Americans.............................perverse history eh!
Good mother fuckin' shit right here. Fuck all that "Dumb" Step shit I remember when the youth listened to rebellious music like this and told their parents to fuck off the good old fashioned way, instead of throwing a tantrum when they get their phone taken away. We never had phones, we had only the outside and the clothes on our back.
@BEATmyguest31 So true. But just try to be the best person you can. It sounds like you're already on the path. Maybe I can suggest 10 non-commandments. 1 freedom 2 uniqueness of individuality 3 love 4 meditation 5 non-seriousness 6 playfulness 7 creativity 8 sensitivity 9 gratefulness 10 a feeling of the mysterious. You already show good taste in music by listening to SLF, one of the all time great punk bands.
When I was in high school in the late 70's I played this 'til the grooves wore down. Literally unlistenable. Best punk album of all time in my opinion.,
Jake Burns sounds like he eats cement mixers full of razor blades for breakfast. Three of the bastards in one bowl. Fuck Shredded Wheat, that's a punk rock breakfast right there.
Yeah, I don't dislike Sunday Bloody Sunday or anything, but it does kind of look like a great big fail-fest next to this. Israelis/Palestinians take note!
@ollieroks - SLF – AKA Stiff Little Fingers were formed in the mid 1970’s as young Northern Irish band feed up with the British rule over N. Ireland. A news reporter for NME, following U2 on tour ( who had SLF –known at the time as Highway Star who did rock covers- as a cover band ). He asked if they had any material of their own. He took a demo back to head office and the reporter ended up being the manager for Stiff Little Fingers as the punk band they became.
@TheClarenceter Saying they're not Irish is like saying the Scottish and Welsh have to identify themselves solely as British. They're northern IRISH. Thy might not be part of the state but it's still Ireland.
@TheClarenceter Northern IRISH. It's not western British. North Dakota and South Dakota are both Dakota, North London and South London are still London, Northern Ireland is still Ireland. Northern Irish is still Northern [key word] Irish [/key word]
@SPOTdDRUMMER so.....they are nothern irish after all then? please dont mention spastic americans like dakota hicks in a conversation with me. just thought i needed you to know this. i know what you mean, always mostly knows what the other one is on about. you say northern irish people are irish. i say not, northern irish people only live on the island of ireland, which in some cases makes them irish, get me? what I am trying to prove is, that according to their addressings, they are northern I.
@SPOTdDRUMMER even if they are Irish, as ye say...they are still northern irish. there is nothing wrong with northern irish people, i just want to hold on with reality.
@TheClarenceter good friday agreement would disagree. They can call themselves british but they could equally call themselves irish, they are entitled to irish passports. To me and 5 million others, they are as irish as a pint of guinness.
@metalyouth666 Yeah, kicks U2's asses, but IMHO Virgin Prunes were even better than SLF. Well, off course the Prunes were much to weird for most people ...
