thank you for doing this video because it really gives you real insight into Japanese culture. Also how orderly everybody is is so amasing and funny to watch but I wish, people in the UK main cities like London and Birmingham were orderly like this then maybe we would get to a to b more quickly like the Japanese do but wishful thinking though lol anyway thanks for the video
yeah i remember when i visited tokyo, and they had little arrows on the ground that tell you which side to walk on. They looked pretty annoyed if you went on the wrong side like the silly tourist i am :P
When will you be making a new video? I love them all... I am so so so so SOOO interested in Japanese culture and as you being an American I love learning about it from you!
richpav, I really miss your videos.. as lame as that sounds, this was really my only way of really getting a good understanding of how Japan really is.. haha.. so.. make more videos, man!
Would anyone? I make use of the time by listening to podcasts and watching videos on my iPod. When I get home I don't watch any TV.
What would make the commute intolerable would be to dwell on the thought that I'd rather be somewhere else instead of on the train. I try not to do that.
when you said the Canadian embassy is pretty nice inside did you mean like nice or nice for a Canadian place saying Canada doesnt normally make that good of things?
Are you an overly sensitive Canadian who can't take anything anyone says about Canada at face value? It's a nice fuckin' embassy, not a high-security foreign compound under enemy siege like the American Embassy where you have to strip down to your underpants and submit to a body cavity search just to pick up some goddamn tax forms. Sheesh.
Ohmygosh, that is one long commute. I'm hoping to go to a college in London next year, in September, and I thought the commute that college was bad. But, compare it to yours, its nothing. You must sleep well at night after all that.
Its very very clean everywhere, you have to travel to Stockholm and see how clean is there crap is everywhere even in the hamburger, and many people have cold even those who work in the restaurant but they never never wear a mask .
I think the Japanese care about hygiene more then us in Europe
haha...According to Bill Bryson,American would only walk between 200 to 500 steps per day and they average life expectancy are like in their 70s....so i guess with the amount of walk you do everyday(plus looking after 2 kids which require a lot of hard work)I guess you would live until 100s...
Well, now you know. This video, except for the clip I reversed, is completely unembellished. No gratuitous shots of "them wacky little Japanese people" or people getting crammed into an unusually overcrowded train. People seem to find it interesting so far, but to me it's just my typical daily surroundings.
yeah, ever since i saw Lost In Translation and The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift, i've been crazily interested in Tokyo. you've gotta take the camera to Shibuya one of these days.
LOL, "This is the Iraqi embassy... What a dump."

Do people look at you weird when you're walking around holding a video camera?
mistyaqua 3 years ago
People look at me weird even when I'm not walking around with a camera.
richpav 3 years ago
You need some more videos, its been awhile.
virusone25 3 years ago
Wow. Are you tall? I'm six feet, and when I went to Japan, people just stared. A lot of school girls wanted to take their picture with me?
The culture is very interesting. I only went for 2 weeks, and hope to go again soon.

What a dump is right! They probably trash the place b4 they left. XD lmfao
Mokurentate 4 years ago
i noticed one of the girls(or guys could not really tell) on the train was wearing a mask, is that common?
DarkDevil5AO 4 years ago
People who have a cold wear a mask so they don't spread their germs.
richpav 4 years ago
I wish people did that here, but if you did you would get a lot of funny looks.
virusone25 3 years ago
Just started watching your videos and absolutely love them! Keep up the good work.
And I thought my commute was bad...

isnt it weird holding a camera around while you walk...?
kiteofdark 4 years ago

richpav 4 years ago

1. Thanks for the making of this video even though you have to carry the weight of a 5 year old with ya.
2. I wonder if you go to the Gym since your travelling to and from work is like climbing a mountain..
habiebiee 4 years ago
I should be going to a gym because I'm so out of shape I'll probably be dead of a heart attack within 5 years.

ericsurf6 4 years ago
IT. Web development, Linux & Windows server admin, tech support, training, etc.
richpav 4 years ago
Hey thanks for that! So in your office are you the only non-Japanese person?
mercenarysora 4 years ago
My boss is Canadian, and I work with a French guy, but he's leaving at the end of this month.
richpav 4 years ago
Hmmmm
So what do you usually think about when you are doing all of that. I mean you have to come up with so many things huh?
mercenarysora 4 years ago
So what is the total time it takes you to get to work? And how far from work do you live?
I thought I had it bad with a 30 minute drive everyday...LOL.
bigred143 4 years ago
Two hours door-to-door, one way.

Yes that's one long commute you've got there Rich. On the other hand though, what nice subways you guys have.
It sure beats the subways I have to take. God and you should know what I mean, if you've ever taken the trains in Philly.
cfnk76 4 years ago
These days I wouldn't even enter Philly without a Kevlar vest and a bazooka.
richpav 4 years ago
You must have mislabled this video... because no sane person would do that EVERY work day.
