@altha2008 First off Bush has not wasted trillions in Iraq---we are AT WAR with Terrorists who want to vaporizes the US and US!. Second, NIXON(R) and MONDALE(D) both hated the manned space programs. Shuttle was built on half of its budget. Without a Space Shuttle System cannot assemble or bring up to orbit the components of a Space Station. NASA budget should have been at least 3-6% of Fed Budget but was close to .06% of Federal Budget. Once a tech sys becomes selfreplicating govt funds can end
@altha2008 Suggest u locate a book called ENTERPRISE (~1976) by a guy named Gerry Grey (AIAA). Shuttle (1972 costs) $7.5B $5.22 for 5 Shuttles the $2.28B for ALL SUPPORT SYSTEMS--this for a sys that had never been tried before--Mondale tried to stop all funding to Shuttle (also tired to shut down all Apollo Ops after Apollo 1 Fire). NIxon told NASA, "take it or leave it". Also a 20% ($1.5B) cost overrun (typical to govt programs) was added; total $9B--Inflation /2=$4.5 total for Entire Program.
@altha2008 NASA was NEVER given those addtional funds to make up for inflation. EX: 1969-1979 NASA's Total Budget: $50B @ that time Health Education & Welfare (now Health & Human Services; Education seperate govt agency now) $1500B or $1.5TRILLION-1979 cost figures...
Not so old-fashioned - Astronauts would have a much easier time in orbit if they had a rotating station (not to mention an easier time using the restroom!).
That is WHAT THE SPACE STATION SHOULD HAVE BEEN! NASA and Obama (BUTTHEAD) has destroyed America's Space CAP!
